So I have been hanging out in high-sec, mining, building stuff, and staying out of trouble. I come back to the key board, and my Hulk, that cost over 250 mill. Isk, has been suicide ganked. I lost a 250 mill Hulk to a guy in a 1 mill Trasher. So, how is this supposed to be fun for me? I am supposed to pay $15 a month so someone and just come along and destory my ship, I worked very hard for, and now I have nothing? The Insurance is a joke on a Hulk, and no matter how good my skills are I can't toughen it up to last against high sec gankers, and now I have nothing? This is supposed to be fun for me? For $15 a month. So, now I am out my $15, and I have nothing in game... and the fun element is where?

If that's how you choose to play the game, yes. If not, then no.
If it's not fun for you, pick something else to do or put some additional thought into what you're currently doing to avoid the same thing happening again. ùùù ôWe want to try this thing called micro-transactions, but we don't know what it is. So you went afk while sitting in a 250 million isk ship with a crap tank. In fact, you must've taken no effort to tank it at all since it was taken out by a destroyer of all things. Maybe you should think about getting out of mining. Returns are among the lowest in the game since the ore/mineral markets are dominated by bots. Missioning, for instance, will net a much larger return pretty quickly.

I would not mind losing a ship in low or null sec; but, I stayed in high sec on purpose; to avoid conflict, and still got ganked.
This game dose not go without miners. Making the game hard on them makes no sense. It matter not, if I am present when the gank takes place or not. I am in a Hulk, WTF am I going to do? Do you really expect people to just sit and stare at the screen while miners cycle? I feel CCP needs to worry less about boot and coats that cost a billion isk, and worry more about game play.

I find it hard to believe you lost a hulk to a single thrasher. So this is either a troll or your hulk fit needs to be reexamined.

I call troll on this-really a thrasher took out a hulk before Concordokkend? I find this hard to believe. On another note i have been in this game for almost 5 years and lost many many ships-it happens-and it is clearly stated in these new tutorials that this game is unlike any other-the death penalty is real unlike WoW and the likes.
Get used to it and man up or GTFO in my opinion

Sorry, highsec doesn't work that way.
Quote: This game dose not go without miners. Making the game hard on them makes no sense.
Sure it does. The thing you're missing is that if you are dead, other miners make more money, so going after you makes immense sense for everyone (except you).
Quote: It matter not, if I am present when the gank takes place or not. I am in a Hulk, WTF am I going to do?
Warp out.
Quote: Do you really expect people to just sit and stare at the screen while miners cycle?
If you want to be safe, yes. Or, wellà you don't have to stare at the screen, but you need to be available to take immediate action.

Welcome to the sandbox.

You are mistaken. Miners are not necessary without conflict. The whole reason you're mining is to supply a market which demands minerals to build new ships and modules for PVP.
If you were to ragequit the mining business right now because some guy suicide ganked your hulk, you would only increase the potential profit of other miners who have no issue playing it smart.
High sec mining is a low profit career to begin with. You are not special.

Edited by: Henry Haphorn on 23/07/2011 04:01:02 Several things you did wrong:
1. You actually believed (judging from how you describe your reasons for being in highsec) that highsec is a safe place in New Eden. No place is safe (it's how we roll around here - welcome to the hood).
2. You went strictly for a buffer shield tank while sacrificing armor with your expanded cargoholds.
3. You failed to include a shield booster. That could have protected your 250mil Hulk just long enough for Concord to come and save you.
4. You mined in a 0.6 system where at least 1 industrial and 2 exhumers have been killed in the past week. Check the stats in your map (F10) and try avoiding highsec systems where a lot of ships have been destroyed in the last 24 hours.
Take it from me. I've been mining for 3+ years and I have grown to get use to the hostile climate.
EDIT:
Mina, I wish I had your level of generosity.

Iron Breaker, welcome to EVE. When you undock, doesn't matter where, you agree to be able to get blown up. When ever, where ever, for whatever reason or even non at all.
Now you can do two things, learn from this, suck it up and move on, or quit (at least the solo mining part).
If you stick around, showing some character, you've learned what I think is the most valuable lesson in EVE and that is not the trust no-one lesson but: NEVER EVER FLY AFK in EVE. You *will* get shot down. Be it not today then it will be tomorrow or the day after.
And about the fun part, it was fun for the guys who shot you. And you extended their fun by posting here. Grief back by not replying, not here or by eve-mail or in local.
Hf,
