It takes TIME to get a fleet of decent size together. People are spread around the world between all the incursions, flying 20-30 jumps after switching ships and arriving to find that it's already OVER is really annoying.

CCP, I don't know who told you, but I do not enjoy travelling thirty jumps, refitting, and preparing for fun to be let down. I don't think the rest of my fellow capsuleers do either. The premise of LEs are great, and I think all of us on this thread would agree but.. we are being let down. It is like pistol whipping a blind kid CCP. We travel far and wide to get here, and we get let down. Please, rethink your strategy, not for your own sake, but for ours. We the players who want to have fun.

Signed. 20 jumps to have no real effect on either the storyline or my wallet, getting involved in a fleet and organizing and not seeing a single hostile, and generally being bored, are not very enjoyable. The sansha live events we hear about are huge, pitched battles, but it seems the reality is that those are few and far between.
tl;dr: make it worth our while.

WAs my First LIve event, and we had many many people coming from the other incursion like 30jumps then sort the logi out takes time and refitting so that fact that you made it so short was a bit crap, and the fact that we get little too no reward for running these we do these for fun. So CCP what is the time frame for running these event as this one from spawn-too end was like 1 Hour so the fleet we had was unable too get everyone from 30 jumps and logi cap chain up.

This was going to be my first live event... I was a good bit excited about participating in it. ^_^
Unfortunately, in the 20-30 minutes it took to assemble a fleet and arrive on scene, the event had been cut short. We had a fleet of 70 players at Gidali Planet 1, and we had missed the action by mere minutes.
It was a very disappointing experience, to say the least.

I don't even care about reards. It's a live event - I just want to be able to PARTICIPATE. It's rare enough for them to happen when I'm actually online. When a fleet can't even get formed up in time to respond before the sansha actor leaves a bunch of taunts and disappears... there's something wrong with the live event.

Dear CCP,
Flying 20-30 jumps, possibly refitting, and setting up fleets and cap chains for Live Events takes time. If you want your Live Events to be successful maybe you should give us some warning, some time to get organized, and some time to actually do anything. (Some bigger rewards - maybe along the lines of the mothership site - would help increase interest as well.)

today's live event in Gidali was rather pathetic. If you want us to enjoy these live events and at some times we do enjoy them. But 2 points must be raised.
1 - the notice, we have no way of knowing when it will happen till it is happening. I think even with minimal notice we were able to form a substantial fleet to combat it within minutes. But more notice and information will make it more enjoyable... maybe some post in the constellation channel to spark something before the wormholes spawn. This would be good for both parties. I know CCP would like to kill our ships and we want to kill Sansha (win/win)
2- The rewards... we are almost guaranteed to lose ships and field more. If there were rewards closer to HQ sites or Mom sites it would encourage more of our communities to be involved. We would bring bigger juicier ships and again you would have more faction ships dying. (win/win)

I'm not entirely sure how making folk lose their ships while being on AP (including freighters and orcas) is going to encourage players to stay with the game. But it's damn fun to watch. Could you please name the team that is running those Events? I would like to have them my vote for the ****-Players-Off-Award for this month.
The freighter from last night was filled with tec 2 mods in case you didn't get the killmail. Nice catch! -- IF YOU PLAY WITH SONY YOU PLAY WITH ******! |

Firstly, no one is entitled to participate in any given live event. If you can make it, great, if not, c'est la vie. Secondly, this live event could have been based upon some goal that did not require conflict with capsuleers, just like some live events last year.
So yea, sux that not enough people showed up in time to properly organize this time, **** happens. Crucifying CCP over it however is childish.
I say thank you CCP for your live events, and I can't wait to see how it all comes together! Evidence that my forum settings have been saved. |

Kinda sad that we all have to make a post to inform CPP that they are making their own lives events SUCK. Totally understand the need to kill local players, and ship at random. Some how there needs to be an alert across the screen, like when a system is crashing due to lag. "Concord Requests local Pilot support at 'Where ever' " It's pointless to try to make live events and NOT encourage more pilot to come. Offer some bounty or something. Rats have bountys, otherwise your WASTING peoples time!!

Hey guys. Thank you for speaking up. The /signed stuff is kind of unnecessary. I say that only so you know you don't have to get your whole fleet to mobilize on the forums just to be heard (not that it hurts the thread's profile...). We tend to look pretty hard for any feedback we can get on events, and have lots of CCP'ers who do so for us as well.
I'll keep it fairly simple: we try to maximize involvement, it's a goal of live events, and it appears this time we dropped the ball on involving a whole bunch of you. For that, we're sorry, and we'll be looking to improve in the future (based off the feedback we get, just like this). The documentation I have on the events in question show they lasted for at least an hour each time, so chances are you just missed the boat by a little bit. Completely unintentional at our end, and something that can happen with a shorter event.
Events run for only a certain duration because of many things; how much time the event runner has available (a minimum of an hour), the event has a specific time limit, or because the system is getting overpopulated and we are concerned about impacting performance.
Often in the busy state of running an event, we might not be able to notice that a fleet is forming, particularly if they don't announce it anywhere and rally off-grid or in another system. We'll do what we can to be more aware of gathering fleets, but I have to ask that you guys help us out here too and make it known if more people are inbound. Based on that information, we can often extend the event.
And we'll try run some longer "pew pew" events too.

Thank you for the quick and in depth reply... I was in the actual system at time of spawning and it was upon us before we knew what was happening. If there were some kind of notes that one could have to understand the objective of the Sansha forces maybe we could prepare some return RP. I suppose even posting up something along the lines of "Calling out all available Capsuleers, We have an incursion of [Enter Name] To our solar system, expecting reinforcements with an ETA of 15 minutes... Hold them off as till backup can arrive"
Just something off the top of my head, but if I find myself in another system when one spawns I'll try and play along. Even if it's just to let the organizers know we're mobilizing the fleet.
I also think maybe for even the shorter events a little notice ahead of time could be given, just something in the constellation chat. Just to give more of us a heads up, so the correct channels get the information sooner.

For the way the Role play is ment to work, Any advanced notice kind of defeats the opject of the role play. How can it be a supirse attack by the Nation if they tell you it's comming. I Myself think it would just be better to have an uderstanding that any "Live Events" from now on should last 2 hours or untill Capsulers fleet dies in a ball of flames or the defeat of the Nation invasion. 2 Hours may seem a long time for a GM to sit about and try and role play. I Get that. Just tell him to kill more Factions ships to keep him happy ;-) I understand that GM's like to play also. But as he is on the pay role (I am only guessing here) I Don't think 2 hours is to much to ask. But if the Capsulers can't get a fleet toghter in that time frame, then they never will.
So if the GM can make the commitment of 2 hours. I Think everybody will be happy. If the Capsulers can't get a fleet up in that time. Tuff Capsulers Goo. It's their own lost.

And we'll try run some longer "pew pew" events too.
really? would you have given a written response if one person posted this and noone signed? Pretty ****ing doubtful. And the written response is what is giving these folks the understanding that you're listening. And that's important.
Now, it'd be real simple when you are running a live event to post enough information to let folks know, for example, "If you're going to arrive later than xx:xx you'll likely have missed the fight." -- Which tells people to hurry the hell up, or to not bother. Prevents having butt-hurt paying customers, which I'd think would be a good thing.
Customer service isn't rocket-science, it's just being courteous and respectful to the folks that indirectly pay your wages. Common sense really.

I know these must be difficult for CCP to organize, and that everyone involved in the live events is working hard to provide a unique experience for the players each time and we do respect the hell out of that. You guys are doing a good job, I just think more warning/longer duration and more rewards would make live event incursions more enjoyable for both sides.

I am surprised CCP actually responded to this thread... a good surprised. :-) Thank you. ^_^
Though, I must disagree one one of your points - the numerous "/signed" by distinct pilots was most definitely necessary. The number of posts on a thread can be a good metric to show just how big of an issue something is.
To use a recent issue as a parallel, if many pilots dislike the idea of AUR, and numerous threads spawn expressing that dislike of AUR, and clothing, monocles, etc, it would be tyrannical to lock those threads simply because they are redundant or repetitive.
If you promote free speech, and you will get true, honest, and useful feedback from your customers.

ITT CCP apologizes for getting it right.
If you insist on peeing in the sandbox with these live events instead of dedicating what few available FiS resources you have to fixing your broken game (or even just going afk for a few hours in a known bot hotbed would be a better use of your time,) you should certainly not be offering big rewards for participation. For the average RPing fanboi, the honor and once-in-a-lifetime thrill of interacting with a real live CCP dev should be reward enough. If it isn't, let him roleplay that he got something really neat.
You also shouldn't be catering to one group or another or 'waiting' for people to show up. You snooze, you lose. This still is EVE, right?

People won't tell about fleets forming because they have had bad experiences with the Live Event dropping right onto them, e.g. on stations, rally points, etc.
Suggestion: Establish some NPC/default behavior routines a Dev can kick off when starting a LE. Like, Dev decides to run a LE in System xyz. So he pushes BUTAN on your backend system and whs start popping up with some random rats coming out. The usual stuff, nothing you would need the actual attendance of a dev for. Let this thing start like half an hour or an hour before the dev actually has time to run the event. This gives people time to rally up and the dev won't be bored to hell, waiting. After some time, the dev can take over and the fleet will hopefully be formed and fun can be had.

I tried to join a few of those live events when they first started to do them, and I think what the OP is talking about has always been a "problem".
I remember deciding that anything over max 18 jumps away would not be worth the effort to get set and travel to. Unless it was intel from that ihavereturned.com site, which I don't know if it's still in operation.
So Signed/Tl;Dr: Dear CCP, please look into making these events bit longer lasting and a bit easier to predict and get ready for.

The last thing I want to do is put the idea in anyone at CCP's heads that Dropbear should be doing anything other than the amazing work he does with Eve's storylines, but it would certainly be a positive development if all of CCP's communication with the playerbase were as respectful and as clear as his always is.
There's a reason CCP Dropbear is everyone's favourite CCP employee.
I was there. The buildup of anticipation as the fleet came together was amazing, and I think it was that buildup that made the let-down at the end so painful for so many. Note that the fleet did make it to the last encounter site at the very last moment, and we did shoot a handful of Sansha as they were escaping through the wormhole.
Now, I've run live events in another game before. Much smaller-scale mind you, say 30-40 participants, but the feel is pretty much the same. Sometimes, as GM you find that the players take too long, or don't pick up on what you feel is a very obvious clue, and it gets frustrating. But you have to remember that you're running the event for their benefit. If they take too long, you bring the fight to them. If you have to leave, you do something like mock them for their slow response, but in a combat-related event you at least spawn some leftovers for them to clean up first.
It was probably the fact that we were all heading to the site fully believing that we were going to have some fun, and the event ended without so much as a "We win, you lose, ahahahaha!!" goodbye. But thank you Dropbear, your response honestly made me feel much better about the whole thing.
Hopefully, both sides in this will learn from it and that will make for better future events for everyone.

Oh, and one more thought.
Live events are fun. People participate and enjoy them not just because it's something different, but because it's something random. You just don't know what's about to happen next, unlike much of the rest of Eve's PvE content. That makes the experience very worthwhile.
That experience IS the reward. Please don't diminish it by making it all about loot. Those that make complaints about it "not being worth their time" are missing the point.

Live events coincide with unfolding of EVE lore. That is the reward. I wasted a bunch of time flying to a live event before as well only to miss it. In that respect it would be nicer if they could last longer. Paying for the game means you can log in and pewpew or grind isk or go to a live event.

Hey maybe it issnt CCP's fault. Given that the average live event fleet takes OVER 60 minutes to mobalise.
Live events are done in character, if the Slave is done with its mission and capsuleers still havent show up, why stay?
Stop b*tching and whinging and just get your sh*t together. Back a year ago FCORD fleets took about 30 minutes to mobalise. That time has more then doubled in the second itteration of live events.

Last live event I was at we were formed up in 30 minutes. Just as we jumped into system the event was finished. The reason if any delay is happening is because of teasing events like that. That are only open for a few minutes and then down again. no one wants to burn 30 jumps for nowt.
I have heard that there have been some rather successful events since then and good for both sides. I hear it was enjoyable and I hope to be online for the next few.

We really appreciate you responding in this thread and personally I have been in several live events recently and it has been enjoyable everytime. Whenever we get reports of a Live Event occurring (in our almost 1000 + online at prime-time incursion channels) we quickly stage a point, appoint an FC, start forming up and calling for reinforcements from everywhere in EVE. LITERALLY everywhere!
Now a bit of advice. If you do run for an hour, please check local count and the adjacent system local count. We will most likely always stage one jump off at a station or similar. When you see local spike or getting overpopulated, that is a GOOD thing, not a bad thing as you seem to point out. That is because our forces are arriving and we are only minutes short of delivering a siginificant punch to you.
The reason to why we don't always stage in the same system is due to the incidents where we were engaged prematurely on our staging point, be it a planet, station or stargate and hence we can not arrogantly throw fleets and millions (billions) of ISK into space without proper preparation which is really what we ow those pilots who have been travelling and stressfully fitting out their ships for the engagement. If we are gonna do it, we are gonna do it WELL - or else there is simply no point in doing it. That's the motto ...
