As a pilot that responded to the Sansha Incursion into Hebisa I arrive on site around 8 minutes after SEC-COM alert was issued and found around two dozen other war ships already in action within the next 15 minutes our force had grown considerable.
Waiting 40 minutes until an over whelming force was assembled is a clear failure of Amarr military doctrine.

Originally by: Lady Spank Well now we have the other issue... People that wish to do fleet ops should get organised to facilitate such activity.
I'm sorry, but how exactly can anyone expect a bunch of random pilots in a L4 mission running system to be "organized to facilitate such activity" as a random live event?

How about forming a corporation of like-minded individuals with a common interest in downing tools (mission boats) and heading out whenever a live event, or incursion crops up? There are corps that do exactly this and I don't see anything but reports of awesome events and nice Incursion income from them.

IÆm nearly speechless, but not in the least smug. It was decent of you to post the retraction.

Mandrid, I see your point. You have to understand most of the posters on your thread don't do much else but post on threads to sound like either the forum's disgruntled owners, or general experts at forum etiquette. (Though a pitiful few can spell that word.)

A nice thought except for a couple things. Incursions happen a lot more often than live events. In fact they are a persistent feature in EVE. Also, each incursion lasts a good deal longer than an hourààà.more like days.

Quote: This is the equivalent of having the World Cup hosted in a location and a time unknown to the rest of the world until the kick off and expecting people that want to participate to drop everything in the hopes they can reach it before its over.
This pretty much sums up the problem, but the solution? It isn't to give 24 hours notice of a live event, due to the nature of this live event, doing that would spoil value of it. What the OP seems to be looking for is either Longer Live Events, or perhaps some Worhmhole detection system giving a region 1 hours notice? >_< Still don't like that idea however.

You took almost an hour to form up?
I'm not surprised it was over and done with by the time you got your arse in gear.

Lol! You wanted a CCP mechanic to work like it is supposed to and provide you with context appropriate enjoyment?
Hell no! You'll have to deal with the power ganker/exploiter mentality of the player base and watch this mechanic go to hell just like Faction Warfare.
Yeah, DUST is really going to be used as intended too. Lolcakes!

It wasn't mentioned in the OP: Are you sure a different fleet didn't engage/drive back the Sansha?

Edited by: Siigari Kitawa on 29/07/2011 04:13:48 It didn't used to take an entire "fleet" of 50-70 pilots. A gang of 5 guys were able to handle the old live events, and the drops were officer loot and blueprints worth billions, sometimes even ships that had been ejected from FULL TO THE BRIM of faction mods and loot.
I don't understand why all the PVErs feel "entitled" to this stuff. If you're there, cool. Do something about it. If you're not, you missed it, better luck next time.

Originally by: Mandrid Mandragoran I was hauling minerals between Palas and Amarr in my Bestower when I noticed something very odd while traveling through Gidali. Sanshas on the gate. Lots of them. It was a Live Event - the first I've ever seen. Exciting, for sure. I promptly jumped one system over to hop into my Abaddon and joined a local fleet that was forming.
It took nearly 30 minutes for the fleet to finish oragnizing. We were a sizable fleet, 70 pilots strong, some which had come from upwards of 30 jumps distant. Logi pilots had set up chains and watch lists. The local PvE DPS had refit for incursions (EHP, Omni resists, DPS). Last minute advice was being handed out, fittings analyzed, anchors set, as we scrambled to organize while we gathered on both sides of Gidali.
Battle comms was called. Reports were still coming in of lone battleships being chased down and popped by the Sahshas as they jumped into Gidali and to their doom. The order was given - fleet undock, jump to Gidali, assemble on Planet 1.
A torrent of ships spews from the station, a steady stream warping across the system, continuous gate fire propelling our fleet to Gidali. The gate on the other side is cluttered with wreckage. We ignore it, and burn to Planet 1. The fleet assembles, all 70 ships, the logi chain cris-crossing the fleet like a game of cat's cradle gone awry. Modules on every ship, prepped and ready for combat, illuminate the scene in a pulsating glow. We are ready for this.
But we were met only with silence. The wormholes that the Sanshas had been invading through had disappeared. Scavengers were finishing picking at the wreckage on the gates. It could not have been more than 45-60 minutes since the event had begun, and already, without even being able to participate, it was over.
We waited for another 15 minutes. The hope and excitement that had been so high in the fleet only minutes before had been entirely snuffed out. There was no anger though. Only sadness. The fleet was called. Our pilots drifted away, back to the drudgery that seemed even more pale than it did only an hour ago.
We've been had. We've been robbed.
CCP, Slave Nakri29, if you're reading this, please know that it is quite cruel to toy with us like that. It is a major party foul to call a live event and then bail out before the guests arrive.

Thanks for posting in GD, Otherwise I'd have never seen it.
Sorry to hear so many folks were let down by the event. Gotta be the opposite effect CCP is shooting for by having events in the first place, one would think. You should send a feedback petition. Makes me miss eve circa 2003-4 all the more. The events then were one of my favorite things in eve. Once again CCP is missing the boat by failing to execute on a good idea.
It would've been very easy to avoid such hurt-feelings by simply letting folks know that if they can't arrive by "such and such time" then they shouldn't bother coming. But hey, it's not like they're upsetting paying customers or anything...

I'd like to point you folks at this sadly misplaced thread over in Events & Gatherings - WTF!? isn't that just RL ones? I thought all the Incursion and Live Event stuff belonged into Mission & Complexes?
Anyhow, there's an official blue bar apology and explanation in there.
