Khira Kitamatsu	Posted - 2011.07.29 12:10:00 - [1] Are you tired of CCP not fixing the fonts in this game? Well tell them here in this thread. This is 2011 and we're still playing a game from 2003 whose UI has changed very little since then and has not changed with technology. Most players today have 24" widescreen monitors with greater resolution capabilities. Back when EVE first came out many players were still using CRT's with much smaller screens and resolutions. Fonts are tiny in resolutions of 1920x1200 and greater on 24" widescreen monitors. As it stands now we can increase fonts to size 13/expanded and that does absolutely nothing from what I can tell. Even games like WoW have better UI customization controls built into the game and it is from 2003. Why can't CCP give us the option to increase font size in overviews, markets and such? If you think this needs addressed by CCP please let them know and post a +1.

New or expanded fonts aren't really a solution, I think they really need to go in and rework the UI to accommodate a more fitting default font size. I'm not talking huge fonts, just something closer to 12 point please!

Up until 2yrs ago i had near perfect eye sight, 2 yrs ago i started playing the game, about a year later i started having trouble reading text on pc screens, went ot the opticians and they told my i had a stigmatism in my right eye (stretched focus along the horizontal). Hmn wonder if i can get an optician to testify in court .... :D

They'd dry out so bad from concentrating on the monitor my eyelids would literally stick to them, and when I tried to open them, I would have difficulty, force them open, and damage my eyes. The pain was searing, and it would take hours to subside. My eyesight is wrecked now, and yes, fer crissakes, bigger font would be great.

Buy clothes and be happy. 90 percent of devs are doing stuff for other games and you want stuff your kidding right. When you buy WoD and Dust they will have the better font your asking for. So wait and buy them. For now buy pants pay for Vampire FPS and stop asking for stuff.

I understand the pressing need to feel somewhat relevant (which seems to be very widespread around here), but the forums (in any game) are no representation of "the customer". "the customer" plays EVE Online, not Forums Online. This said, the font need to be customizable. They already said that they're working on it, if i'm not wrong. Id be more interested in CCP fixing it so text isn't hidden by overlaid graphics and other text like on the probe control map or the nav map.

About two years ago they allegedly hired a "font guy" to work on completely new fonts. Near as can tell that project was abandoned because making UI fonts bigger broke the UI windows and otherwise looked bad. Supposedly the new Carbon UI will allow CCPto make variable-sized fonts, but they're most likely not going to introduce new fonts until they completely redo the entire interface. That'll prolly happen sometime around 2013, since a new UI would no doubt require new art assets and all the art teams are backlogged until the end of this year and possibly until the end of 2012, depending on who you ask and how much you read into the CSM minutes. Basically, folk have been asking for the option to make fonts bigger for years, and CCP has generally remained silent on the issue, even though being able to read the UI text [or distinguish between 0 and O] would prolly do more to attract and retain players than pretty clothes.

I mean, come ON... displaying and working with fonts is one of the most basic things in any modern (post-DOS) software program, game or not. Selecting different fonts, changing the size, flowing text around graphics and other UI elements... it's all been done before, tens of thousands of times. There are standardized tools and methods for working with fonts, even within 3D games. Surely CCP, in designing EVE a few years back, didn't start completely from scratch and whip up their own custom font-rendering engine with a single hard-coded typeface??????? Because THAT is the ONLY reason I can think of as to why this problem hasn't been fixed yet!

I have to get within 6 feet to read the damned per-hour extraction rates on the PI graph pane. Used to have 20/20, I think it's probably a little worse than that now, but still pretty darn good.

This is 2011, who runs EVE at low resolutions these days? EVE looks terrible on an LCD screen running at lower than native resolutions, and EVE is almost unreadable at 1920x1080 (most 22 inch monitors native resolution) unless your face is 20cm from the screen. PLEASE make EVE a modern game!

Nothing they say will be universally accepted unless the answer is "Getting fixed at downtime". Its not getting fixed at downtime so I don't want them to say that. 2. They changed it once, they will change it again. 3. No one that's complaining thanked them when they changed it from 12 to 13. It might not have fixed the problem for you but it fixed it for many.
