When I left the game a long time ago it was because I essentially shot myself in the foot by becoming a low-sec pirate. My security status limited what I could do in the game. I tried unsuccessfully to get it back to normal but it wasn't happening.
I have a 5-day free trial period on this account. I'm just downloading the client :)
Have they made regaining security status any easier? I don't want to start over. I have too many SPs invested on this character.

It will take a bit, but just go to a NPC nulsec region and jump between a few systems taking out the most costly BS spawn per system.
You can do it in lowsec too but it will take much longer. _______________________ The best thing in EvE is Barrage M. |

Any suggestions on a ship/fit for nullsec ratting? Something that can kill NPC battleships yet safe enough to fly in nullsec. I need to get security status back and NEVER touch low-sec piracy again.

I heard people claiming a stealth bomber is a good choice for taking out nulsec battleship spawns, but I never tried it myself, so take this advice with caution. _______________________ The best thing in EvE is Barrage M. |

A poorly fit drake can handle most nullsec belt spawns. Except for officer spawns of course, which will require the help of a few friends.

Drakes would get stuck in gate camps easily though correct? I fear nullsec gank squads :P

You'll want to train Fast Talk if you haven't already, which increases the rate at which you gain improvement. The grinding mechanics for this are pretty simple: You get a boost to your sec status for the biggest bounty rat killed every 15 minutes per system. A stealth bomber works great for this, just pop a BS in a belt and move on to the next system. You can easily plan a circular route so that when you hit the 15 minute mark on the first you can start it over again without leaving a general area.

Cool ty. I've built two of these http://eve.battleclinic.com/loadout/34706-Ratting-Manticore.html
I'll try to learn as I go with the bomber.

Just avoid the interceptor NPC as they can web and warp scramble you, which = dead bomber
Worth noting the bomber bonus (75% at covert ops level 5) to the missile types. If possible fit a bomber to suit the NPC you are fighting, or failing that go to null sec that suits your bombers damage type. ----------------------------------------------- Please resize your signature to the maximum allowed of 400 x 120 pixels with a maximum file size of 24000 bytes. I don't think I met any interceptor NPCs yet. I don't really know how to tell what is chasing me though. I took out about 4 or 5 battleships in 0.0 space this evening though. Seems very safe so far. Align for a point and open up when at 30km. Nothing scary so far. The grind is hellishly slow though. I'm guessing it would take months to get it back up.

Yeah it can be brutal, but 4-5 BSs isn't really enough to get it going. If you really pound out the grind you can get it back up within a week or two, depending on how much you are online.

Edited by: Durzel on 31/07/2011 15:07:13 Find a pocket where you can jump between systems, kill one BS in one system, move to the other, kill another BS, etc. If you keep doing that you'll be getting sec updates every 4-5 minutes.
The key thing to remember is that you will only get a sec status update per system every 15 minutes.. so if you kill 10 BS in one system in that time you'll only get 1 update, but if you killed those 10 BS over a period of 10 x 15 mins, you'd get 10 updates.
Hope that makes sense.

This is correct, but with one additional thing.
You get a sec status update per system PER PIRATE FACTION every 15 minutes. It might be viable to run missions in low sec with an eye towards blitzing them. But I still think the ratting solution works better for most cases.
The ideal sec status repair craft is probably a Tengu, with cov-ops cloak and interdiction nullifier. Hits and tanks like a drake, but can run through gate camps with impunity.
Second best thing is probably a pirate specific bomber, just watch out for frig rats. and further more why do i even need a sig? |
