Alright, ladies and gentlemen.
Let's discuss this fine little PI product. This item brings in more profit, moves faster, and is just generally a better product to produce than any of the other of its' tier.
My goal here though, is to find out why. What is it used for? The demand seems huge for it, moreso than any other, and I have produced them all at this point.
I know it's a POS fuel, but there are others that are too, and they aren't as much in demand. Is this just a market trend or has it been like this for a bit? -------------------------------------------

It's an ingredient for T2 Missiles.
It's not an ingredient for POS fuel though.
Robotics is also a good one as it's used for T2 drones.

Edited by: Devai Starchild on 01/08/2011 03:22:23 Why missiles? Is that that the only ammo that PI products are an ingredient in?
Are missiles consumed faster than other weapons? Or more common? -------------------------------------------

(almost) everybody uses a raven/CNR/Golem/drake for missioning T2 missiles are cheap T2 missiles increase the amount of missions they can do in their playtime ---------------------------------------------------------- WTB Sig must include NOS Domi KILLING Ponies other details to be discussed, EVEmail me for details |

Plasmoids are the main bottleneck plus having enough electrolytes left over after making coolant. I believe most PI on the market is just leftovers from POS fuel operations.

I forgot about coolants sucking up a shared part of rocket fuel(electrolytes) as I should have something like 6-8mths more already stockpiled(someone typo'd the sell, bought like 1.5yrs worth for about 2mnths cost before I had to leave last year) ---------------------------------------------------------- WTB Sig must include NOS Domi KILLING Ponies other details to be discussed, EVEmail me for details |

Do we talk about the same P0? Plasmoids are vastly availabe...even Highsec Planets can run one Factory on 3 heads with 23h timer!
Electrolytes are the bottleneck here. Oh and the fact that you get as much as 5 Fuel/Hour per factory...so not more then 120 per day....

No its not. The last time I ran calculations on robotics I would make more money selling the components than the robotics. Yes you lose money making robotics at current prices.
Sigh. I gues you are one of those 'the minerals I mine are free' people.

i'm a bit new to industry, but i'd even go as far and say it's simply because of the tengu and drake being OP and scourge furies being a viable ammo choice for most encounters. that idiot proof guide on tentonhammer about producing rocket fuel and T2 missiles certainly did its share too. if you think rocket fuel moves fast, put up a sell order few hundred k T2 scourge on jita

No not a 'minerals are free' person.
I just used it as an example of a T2 PI item but apparently you've done the math and it's not as profitable for you. I don't do PI so I'll take your word for it. --- Try my Industry Program! EVE Isk per Hour - Download Here! |

Robotics can be a touch and go, due to market fluctuations, and the massive amounts that are manufactured. A lot of 'minerals are free' people make them, lowering the margin. Often they are still profitable to make, but sometimes the margin dips below 0.

Robotics are a pos fuel and one of the few P3's you can make entirely on one (plasma) planet. People will do that because it means they do not have to go haul as often. Robotics has 60% of the volume of the P2 materials needed to make them. Thus they make robotics and are willing to sell at a price below the P2 component price simply because they still make more per hour of their time. Less per planet, but more per hour.
The hauling issue becomes large if you got your planets in low sec, or NPC null, or W-space.
