Im back in Eve for the 1st time in over 3 years and im trying to get my head around all the changes.
Going through my ships i have rigs on my Commandships, Recons, Heavy Dictors etc and it appears that rigs have been changed while ive been away. My ships are all fitted with Large rigs and im reliabily informed that there are now Medium rigs for cruiser size ships.
So will the rigs work on my ships, what are the disadvantages of said large rigs ? and what if any are the advantages ?

All rigs are the same and have the same effect. The fact that they have sizes just mean you can't FIT them to all ships, if they're fit it works just as well.
Typically it only happens with smaller ships having large rigs, as all the pre-apocrypha rigs were turned into large wether or not they were already fit to ships. Parrots, commence!

Thanks for that.
So they shouldnt effect the ships in any negative way ? Thats good to know.

On a weird note, I had an in-game acquaintance pay me twice the going rate for a Daredevil with Large Rigs on it... He wanted to keep a few ships that still had them on for reasons known only to himself... --

It might actually help them, some people might pay more for the ship as a collectors item.

Why would that be a big deal? Just because they were fit before Millenium doesn't mean they can be online today or fire cruise missiles today. I'm pretty sure you can still put cruise launchers on a Kestrel today, you just can't put them online.
Am I forgetting something about this?

They'll work fine. There are no advantages or disadvantages of having them, except that it may be slightly trickier to sell your rigged ship later via Contracts, as some inexperienced players will be unsure of what the correct price for your ship should be. So they might ignore your contract.

Collectors item.
Same reason people pay through the nose for a kestrel with cruise launchers on it, or Python mine BPOs. Both are useless in game anymore, but people still collect them. This signature space for rent |

Do you mean one cannot use that kestrel anymore? I mean, just undock and use it right?
I have a pilgrim with large rigs and im pretty sure i can still use it. -If the enemy is in range, so are you- |

im quite sure a gm stated once that undocking and using this ships is seen as exploit, and may result in hefty punishment. u may however keep this ships in ur station as a "rarity" item.

all rigs were the same, then the sizes were introducted, to make sure it worked properly all "old rigs" were converted to large so they worked on everything.
i killed a guy only yesterday that had 'oversized' rigs on his BC.
It offers no advantages except that the loss mail will be more than the killboard should say, since they will be totalled as the large instead of medium.

The loss mail won't be inflated. Rigs before the change were as costly (due to requiring a lot of materials to produce) as Large rigs are today.

Actually, the only type of rigs that existed were more expensive than large rigs are today - that's because salvage has gotten much cheaper (in large part due to the fact smaller ships need far less salvage for their rigs, partially thanks to the noctis). _

The reason rigs were changed was to make rigging smaller ships more viable. All rigs during the change were made into large rigs as the salvage required for pre and post changes were the same for the large rigs. Large rigs have no advantages or disadvantages on smaller ships. It just means the ship has been around a while. It will show as more costly on a KB than a ship properly rigged now because large rigs are more expensive than the smaller rigs. With new rigging you can only rig to the proper ship size. Medium and Small rigs cost less to make respectively and their price reflects this in the market. The Noctis may of also had an influence on rig price though not nearly as large as adding medium and small rigs did.

Why has this caused salvage items to become cheaper?

Small and medium rigs require less salvage to produce. Therefore fewer salvage items are being consumed. Less demand, lower price.
The Noctis may have had an effect as well, through increased supply. I didn't bother to follow the market on this, though.
