So, are the forums still completely separated from the rest of the website, like in the test earlier in the summer when the (very useful) sidebar had been (very uselessly) been removed?
And is is still shock-full of jQuery calls that override (read: break) standard browser behaviour? ùùù ôIf you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡ you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.ö ù Karath Piki

So, yeah.
I don't know. I wasn't really expecting anything fancy. I knew that CQ would still be there and still be terrible, I knew no new CQs were coming, I knew that it'd mostly be just bugfixes and **** I didn't care about. Okay, the API and Eve Gate and Eve Forums. Various things which surround Eve, but aren't actually Eve itself.
But it would've been nice to scroll down and see something. I don't know what. Something unexpected. Something nice. A little old "oh hey, wow, that's kind of neat". Something to make me suspect that maybe CCP had woken up. That CCP knew they needed to shape up and start actually.. I don't know. Doing more. Being better. I wanted a sign that CCP had actually taken all the riots and the anger to heart.
Sadly, not.
I guess my sub'll go dead for a while. Such is life.

Very much looking forward to the session change timer removal and CarbonIO. I know that some people are upset that there isn't more in this release, but when activating something like CArbonIO on a large scale it's smart to reduce the number of moving parts.

In regard to the CarbonIO this is true. But, there is no need to point this out. Soon enough this thread will devolve into Door comments and Ragequits. And Eve will be dying, as usual.

Got a little smudge on your nose there, Karl.
This patch is insubstantial. Perhaps people expect too much. That doesn't make the patch any less insubstantial.

yup. i was reading the patch nodes and was saying "meh. they should have done more.. there will be a lot of rage" - then i noticed the CarbionIO and started reading the explanation and went "um.. dude... holy ****, all these ragers have no idea how big of an upgrade is coming in this patch. this change has the potential to clear most of the large fleet fight lag issues".

I think the insult you were looking for was fanboi not brown-nose. You say unsubstantial. Yup they are not doing crap for "internet spaceships"
Then you reflect on the past, and think, oh yea, we have all been p*ssing and moaning about lag. So CCP works on it, in some ways that are obvious like time-dialation, and some ways like CarbonIO. This patch will reduce server CPU load and changes the foundation of the back door mechanics of the game.
But of course, thats not really any work and it definitely has no effect on gameplay. And above all, no one wanted this or has been asking for it, I mean wtf WAS ccp thinking? They should really just give us a new ship and completely change a ship class for balancing reasons in a way that of course everyone will be happy about.
And even then, Eve, as always, will still be dying.

Brown Nose and Fanboy are largely synonymous, but that's neither here nor there.
CarbonIO is nice, certainly, but that's not the point. The point is that this patch is the first real patch since the PR hell of the Incarna release. CCP had been yelled at from multiple angles, and this is where we got to see if they'd taken notice. I look at these patch notes, and I think "If nobody had ever said a word, these patch notes would have been exactly the same".
There is nothing in these patch notes which suggest anything has changed. That's the key.

The screenie made me lol.
But no, CarbonIO (as described in the dev blog) has more to do with core processing, multi-threading and reducing lag than your awesome tan.

i see a huge server performance increase from a foundational level, which will reduce lag noticeably immediately and lays the groundwork for significant ongoing performance optimizations.
but them i'm actually a software engineer so i know that a little one line item in a patch note can represent a year of work for a team of 5 or 6 devs (and 5 or 6 devs working on one feature in any application is a lot of work).

They DID work on reducing lag, but that wasn't what I was upset about now. A few months ago I thew a tantrum, with EVERYONE that MATTERS in Eve. CCP said they would listen to our complaints and immediately give us everything we were crying about. But, but, but...they didn't. Its like we shouldn't have thrown a tantrum in the first place.
Thats what is really sounds like from what you are saying.

IF that is the case, the first entry in the patch notes should mention something like:
* LAG has been dramatically reduced through the introduction of the new CarbonIO system. Other benefits include (x), (y) and (z).
Not buried 80% of the way down below the Spacebook crap. ----- CCP is still under the misconception that by waving a bunch of (NeX store items) in our faces, we'll give in to our urges and (buy) them. Bring back the hangar view and its functionality! |

I will give you credit for the CarbonIO, good job on that.
They removed the session timer on changing ships, which is good but I feel it is a left over scrap of meat given to us so we will stop screaming for spinning ships again.
If you had only one line in the patch notes saying, spinning in station is back, it would have been the best patch in a very long while if not ever.
I feel it is something most eve players would enjoy having back!
Till then I stair at a Door!

Impressed by CarbonIO devblog. Very good and professional work.
Unimpressed by not seeing return of old turret icons.
--- This is one of the moments where we look at what CCP does and less of what they say. Innovation takes time to set in and the predictable reaction is always to resist change |

Oh don't be intentionally ****ing dense. The protests weren't about doing damage or making oneself feel better. It was about negative publicity, and to that end, it served its purpose. The entire MMO industry was making iffy glances at EVE for a couple of weeks during the whole debacle, or didn't you notice with your head in the sand?
CCP, in times past, gave the impression that it was an exceptional company. This impression grows progressively weaker, and it's something that a lot of people seem to be completely oblivious about. The major selling point of Eve isn't that it's some great experience, it's that it's a shining beacon of hope amongst a sea of mediocrity.
But with the recent bone-headed moves that they've made, they have not been looking competent. They have not been looking clever. They have not been looking excellent, and they have not been looking like a company I want to continue supporting. This patch, to me, was going to decide if I'd give them more of my money.
I am not going to give them more of my money. At least not for a while.
That's what this boils down to.
