I could have sworn CCP said we'd be getting some information this weekend regarding the next patch. Did I imagine that?
No new Dev Blogs. No highly visible posts on the subject.
CCP, care to comment?

EVE Online: Incarna 1.1 to be deployed on Thursday, September 1
EVE Online: Incarna 1.1 deployment has been delayed to Thursday, September 1. This deployment will take place during an extended downtime begining at 10:00 UTC and is expected to be completed at 15:00 UTC. Incarna 1.1 introduces a number of fixes and improvements, including elimination of the session change timer while switching ships in station, updates to the Macintosh client and customizable API keys(blog linked here.)
Patch notes for this release will be made available after this coming weekend. No specific day mentioned. |

They said "after the weekend" which can mean the night before the patch, in 2+ days.
They make the patch notes after QA has approved changes, and dis-approved other changes. Then they can assemble the patch notes, and a few hours later the patch itself is ready for deployment. So the patch notes are always done just a few hours before the patch is ready. Now they could delay the patch so we "have the patch notes early", or they could just deploy it as soon as its ready.

I guess they still must be considering what might get dropped/added.
I work in the software business. I actually generate our own release notes which are tied to each individual change request in our change control system. I run a query, and voila, patch notes. Editing is required because devs can barely write coherently, but the only time we are concerned with publishing a snapshot of the notes is when we are considering dropping features (or adding them in some cases).
Four days before a release, there would be heads rolling if the feature set wasn't locked down in stone at this point. However, our business concerns claim processing systems, so things are just a bit more critical than game software :).
Worrying about it is silly, but I truly hope CCP can provide something to the disgruntled customer base to ease the tension about the game's future.

Actually, it can also mean they'll be published in 2014 (or later)

So mostly API, Forum and Spacebook changes. The only useful change to the game is in-station ship switching (which now no longer will start a session timer).
Where's the melting GFX card fix, the fix for skill bonuses not being applied, the fix for close buttons that don't close the ruttin' window, etc, etc.
And how long before we're back on the old forums because of the security of the new forums being rubbish again? ----- CCP is still under the misconception that by waving a bunch of (NeX store items) in our faces, we'll give in to our urges and (buy) them. So, yeah.
I don't know. I wasn't really expecting anything fancy. I knew that CQ would still be there and still be terrible, I knew no new CQs were coming, I knew that it'd mostly be just bugfixes and **** I didn't care about. Okay, the API and Eve Gate and Eve Forums. Various things which surround Eve, but aren't actually Eve itself.
But it would've been nice to scroll down and see something. I don't know what. Something unexpected. Something nice. A little old "oh hey, wow, that's kind of neat". Something to make me suspect that maybe CCP had woken up. That CCP knew they needed to shape up and start actually.. I don't know. Doing more. Being better. I wanted a sign that CCP had actually taken all the riots and the anger to heart.
Sadly, not.
I guess my sub'll go dead for a while. Such is life.

yup. i was reading the patch nodes and was saying "meh. they should have done more.. there will be a lot of rage" - then i noticed the CarbionIO and started reading the explanation and went "um.. dude... holy ****, all these ragers have no idea how big of an upgrade is coming in this patch. this change has the potential to clear most of the large fleet fight lag issues".

I think the insult you were looking for was fanboi not brown-nose. You say unsubstantial. Yup they are not doing crap for "internet spaceships"
Then you reflect on the past, and think, oh yea, we have all been p*ssing and moaning about lag. So CCP works on it, in some ways that are obvious like time-dialation, and some ways like CarbonIO. This patch will reduce server CPU load and changes the foundation of the back door mechanics of the game.
But of course, thats not really any work and it definitely has no effect on gameplay. And above all, no one wanted this or has been asking for it, I mean wtf WAS ccp thinking? They should really just give us a new ship and completely change a ship class for balancing reasons in a way that of course everyone will be happy about.
And even then, Eve, as always, will still be dying.

i see a huge server performance increase from a foundational level, which will reduce lag noticeably immediately and lays the groundwork for significant ongoing performance optimizations.
but them i'm actually a software engineer so i know that a little one line item in a patch note can represent a year of work for a team of 5 or 6 devs (and 5 or 6 devs working on one feature in any application is a lot of work).

I will give you credit for the CarbonIO, good job on that.
They removed the session timer on changing ships, which is good but I feel it is a left over scrap of meat given to us so we will stop screaming for spinning ships again.
If you had only one line in the patch notes saying, spinning in station is back, it would have been the best patch in a very long while if not ever.
I feel it is something most eve players would enjoy having back!
Till then I stair at a Door!

Impressed by CarbonIO devblog. Very good and professional work.
Unimpressed by not seeing return of old turret icons.
--- This is one of the moments where we look at what CCP does and less of what they say. Innovation takes time to set in and the predictable reaction is always to resist change |

Oh don't be intentionally ****ing dense. The protests weren't about doing damage or making oneself feel better. It was about negative publicity, and to that end, it served its purpose. The entire MMO industry was making iffy glances at EVE for a couple of weeks during the whole debacle, or didn't you notice with your head in the sand?
CCP, in times past, gave the impression that it was an exceptional company. This impression grows progressively weaker, and it's something that a lot of people seem to be completely oblivious about. The major selling point of Eve isn't that it's some great experience, it's that it's a shining beacon of hope amongst a sea of mediocrity.
But with the recent bone-headed moves that they've made, they have not been looking competent. They have not been looking clever. They have not been looking excellent, and they have not been looking like a company I want to continue supporting. This patch, to me, was going to decide if I'd give them more of my money.
I am not going to give them more of my money. At least not for a while.
That's what this boils down to.

CarbonIO is nice, certainly, but that's not the point. The point is that this patch is the first real patch since the PR hell of the Incarna release. CCP had been yelled at from multiple angles, and this is where we got to see if they'd taken notice. I look at these patch notes, and I think "If nobody had ever said a word, these patch notes would have been exactly the same".
There is nothing in these patch notes which suggest anything has changed. That's the key.
I suggest you go out there and protest some more champ. You show that jita monument whos boss.
(edit, hahah i said momentum)

They DID work on reducing lag, but that wasn't what I was upset about now. A few months ago I thew a tantrum, with EVERYONE that MATTERS in Eve. CCP said they would listen to our complaints and immediately give us everything we were crying about. But, but, but...they didn't. Its like we shouldn't have thrown a tantrum in the first place.
Thats what is really sounds like from what you are saying.
You're not very bright are you? It's ok, not everyone has to be smart. Just let us handle it from here, 'k?

So you didn't feel better about being ****ed off after the threadnaught and the protest? On another note I still find the idea of what you people thought you could accomplish by means of protesting extremely funny.

We aimed to give CCP bad publicity and cause for concern. In that, we succeeded. I'm not sure why you find that so amusing. Or do you think that all that bad publicity just sort of didn't happen?
Originally by: Karl Planck You probably wouldn't be happy if CCP mailed you a horse that **** rainbows.
I don't expect you to know the personality of everybody on the forums off by heart, so I'll educate you as to my nature.
I am not some bitter grognard who hates everything without reason. I realize full well that things take time. I also give credit when it's due. I didn't ask for a rainbow ****ting pony. I didn't ask for anything, actually. But what I would have liked would be some indication that CCP has actually learned anything over the last couple of months. I credit them with the lag improvements, even though they don't affect me. I credit them with the new turrets, they're quite good. I credit them with the apparent desire to involve the community in the design phase over at the FnI forum.
But talk is cheap. As is similar to what somebody once said, this is a time when we listen less to what CCP has to say, and pay more attention to what they actually do.
And so far, they've done sweet **** all.

I don't believe the bad publicity was really that bad. I also do not think it was significant, at least not nearly as much as it has been said by many people on these forums. Inflating the effect of the protest is, imo, a way to feel better about being angry. That is what i find amusing.

This is really what your complaining about. But what is it you want them to do? Change the direction of the company? People have wanted WiS for years. YEARS! Just because a few people complain about here isn't gonna change jack squat.
You want them to fix some of the bugs that are in game? I am sure they want to as well. I am sure they aren't simply fixes. I am sure that YOU are not sure they are simply fixes.
As far as them "learning something," they aren't your child, they are a vendor. There is no moral high ground with this particular subject. Treating this company like they owe you something more than game time is ridiculous.
Of course, this was all under the assumption that you are taking all of this serious, which appears to be the case. In the slight chance that I was just out-trolled, +1 sir, +1

Yes...this is a "PATCH" not an "EXPANSION". Patches fix issues not release content. Get over it. The next content expansion isn't till the end of the year.
Whiners will whine.
I am looking forward to seeing how well CarbonIO really works CCP. Hoping for the best on this one. NO BOOBIES LEFT BEHIND! |

I don't know about the rest of you but I'm happy with the upcoming patch. According to patch notes it's good one and fixes lots of stuff. (lag, docking, drones) So stop buttkicking, they do what we asked for.
Thank you very much developers.

This feels like a pre patch to a patch All I can say is hurry up CCP lets get these prep patches out of the way so we can get some more BFF changes and other expanded content out to the players so we can be excited about EVE again.
At least state what the hold up is so we can rally around a common cause.
Execute the Plan and be quick about it

This patch follows a similar pattern as the expansion: Little real content, but quite a few background things, spiced with a bunch of interesting fixes. I think they introduced the NeX stuff prior to the patch, just to reduce the impact on the raging levels.
So with all this background work done, can we have a foreground content expansion this winter?
I'd really hate having to put the 'Done for' ticker on EVE. --------

CarbonIO, woot woot
That should hsve been prepared a bit more. With BOLD letters and COWBELLS - lots of cowbells!
If it is really as good as the devblog says it is, then it is a gigantic leap forwards.
Let's hope it is going to be a smooth transaction. |
