I'm just hoping that when these forums are frozen 'forever' - that there are plenty of CCP rage topics on the front page. Whenever anyone accidentally navigates here, they'll get a time capsule snapshot of how CCP screwed it all up and alienated the EVE community.

World of darkness is ccp's upcoming emo vampire mmo that is literally sucking the life out of eve development resources.
This is a stated fact from ccp itself in its 18 month initiative revelation that stated incarna was taking up too many eve resources and eves core gameplay development had to take a back seat to avatar development.
So wonder why all of a sudden eve development focused on an avatar technology that has absolutely nothing to do with any gameplay mechanic in the game but is 100% transferable to its new mmo?
Suckers..

The real troll is ccp using eves development funds to make a completely different game.
Remember that incarna test vid from quite a while back? The one that had more vampire style clothes than the current eve incarna release has eve themed clothes?

True that, the true troll is them using their "flagship product" to alpha test the technology for WoD :p -------- CCP knows better than the players whats good for their game. SOE knew what was best for SWG too. Better than all those players that left too. |

New forum. pfff, cant wait till they launch WoD, then Dust, well i am sure Dust first. Then they will realize they should have stuck to the one market they had cornered, and the one product they could have down pat.
But what ever at this point, just from watching there pat me on the back video's, they love to make of themselves. All is lost, so long and thanks for all the fish.
But plz plz CCP, when you sell your products, do not sell to Funcom. They may be the one company that makes you all look like marketing kings or in some cases, Queens.
Would like to think CCP will laugh all the way to the bank, but really-the joke is on them at this point. Sony anyone?

We've had a teaser trailer or two for WoD, I think. This doesn't necessarily mean anything, since we also had those for Incarna years before we saw any actual content (which looked nothing like the teasers).
Considering how long it took to develop a single room with a couch, I would worry about how long a full game would take to develop, and the resources needed to do it.

Now that would be the ultimate lulz of this whole development failcascade.
CCP decides to switch eve development focus to an avatar technology at the expense of eves core gameplay development to kill two development birds with one money grab and they both fail.

Actually, I'm pretty sure Dust 514 is consuming a majority of CCP's resources. World of Darkness is still in pre-production, as far as I know.

So what you are saying is that you are cool with the fact eve has been put on the back burner indefinitely so ccp can make other projects that have little or nothing to do with eve?
And dust has little to do with eve past being based in the same universe and an as yet undefined connection to sov that will most likely be as unobtrusive as possible.
Oh boy..

You do realize how small CCP is compared to some other studios, right? The fact that something has to be on the back burner while they tackle other projects is completely unsurprising.

EVE development hasn't been dumped. As limited as resources may be, CCP still has a team working on EVE. It's a sign that CCP is in no position to abandon their main project anytime soon. Once Dust 514 has been rolled out, I'm sure more resources will be re-allocated to EVE's development.
You people act as if you're entitled to everything you ask for, and yet the only thing CCP asks from its players is a subscription fee, which can be circumvented completely if the player desires. Despite whatever misgivings you may have about EVE's current state, it's still the best persistent MMO available. If you don't like it, the door is always open for you to leave. No one cares.

Name one feature that has been finished to completion. Just one! The only current active development in eve is the avatar technology that is just a front for world of darkness develpoment. Avatar technology has no gameplay influance in eve and is totally eye candy and optional.

Considering how malleable MMO development is, can you really say that any feature can be complete, no matter how much effort goes into its development? Consider how long EVE has been running. I think it's obvious that its development is a constantly ongoing process. That said, however, I don't think anyone would be playing EVE if it didn't feel whole in some way. I certainly wouldn't be, anyway.
As far as the Incarna features go. Sure, they're fairly useless in their current state, but who's to say that it's always going to be like that? CCP has been wanting these features in EVE for a very long time, so acting as though Incarna is a complete front for World of Darkness is ridiculous. So what if they use Carbon in WoD? Do you hold the same argument for other developers when they use their own technology in other games?

Thats a lot of spin you are tossing out there mate. Be careful you don't get dizzy and fall flat on your face.

Personally, I think signatures are pretty useless. I find that they do nothing except clutter up the forum environment. I don't have signatures activated at all, and every other forum I frequent doesn't allow them.

Honestly, I'm not qualified to answer your question, because I haven't been playing EVE long enough to really say. I just started playing this year.
Regardless of whatever unfinished business there is, it's still the best persistent MMO available. You can't deny that.
And... damage control? Not really. That's just how development goes. Something can always be improved in some way.

If yo ujust started playing this year then you can be forgiven. Stick around a bit and you will see that ccp has built a fabulous ivory tower that is very very pretty from the outside and the first few rooms look quite grand. But once you start exploring around you will soon figure out its a mostly empty tower.
This is ccp's great gamble. That the new subs will be wowed with the limited unfinished content and keep paying them.
But as a 7 year bitter vet I can tell you right now that ccp promises the world but only delivers a couple of acres of rocky land.

Every expansion has added new content that has always been the barest of frameworks. now for a new player with only a year into the game the eve universe can seem like and endless bounty of awesomeness. But the thing is that the skill system and the gameplay mechanics force you into a years long advancement into the top content. You have not been playing nearly long enough to reach the dead ends that every single new feature has. So like I said you can be forgiven because you are new and are still skilling up for the most basic of professions. This is not your fault and I can see you having at least another couple of years of fun before you wake up one day to log in and realise that nothing in this game is in a finished state.
This is ccp's great gamble.
That they can continue to keep drawing in new subs to fund the other projects at the expense of eves core gameplay.
You too will become a bitter vet and look back on this thread and hang your head in shame.

Well, is EVE at least fun to you in some way? I mean, there's a reason you still play it, right? I know that, if the game ever stops being fun for me, I'll definitely drop it cold turkey, as there's no point in putting time into something you don't enjoy. There are plenty of other games to play, after all.
If you invest enough emotion into a game to become bitter, I would say that's caring a bit too much. It's just a game.

I haven't actively played eve for over a year. I have tens and tens of billions of isk from my 7 years of playing eve. So its no issue to me to resub off a plex bought with isk to come here and keep up the good fight for the greater good of eve. Like I said there is more than enough content to last you for a couple of years if you diversify your activities but sooooo much of eve is unfinished. You will not see this for a while so its understandable that you are defending the game so vehemently.
Tbh we need players like you if us bitter vets ever want eve to be finished so we can come back and enjoy ourselves again. But please do not belittle us because ccp decided that short term profits to fund projects outside of eve has us in a fury.
As far as other games of course I have jumped ships. I currently play world of tanks with a rather large portion of the nullsec playerbase who got tired of ccp's endless promises. Now don't be angry at me for this as its natural for a person to bail from something unfun to something that is fun.

To be fair you say you are new so I guess it hard for you to understand the long living entity that is Eve. Now we can have a forum exactly like the other ones you frequent, yey .
Oh well I guess we still got Kugu, they should just link the new COAD forum there and be done with it.

Yeah, but let's not confuse Twilight, which is garbage, with World of Darkness, which is awesome. Vampires still can be cool so long as people do cool things with them.

But ccp is overseeing the development of world of darkness.
Expect the same endless promises with wod as with eve.
As in 'blood dolls are coming in the next patch!'
Then 'well due to issues with profitibility we cannot give you blood dolls because we will lose market share in nearly every moral country in the world! Sorry!'
Seriously if you think ccp is going to magicaly change its tune on development of its new cash cow then I have some ocean front property in new mexico to sell you..

Hey, I never said it was anything to look forward to. I'm just saying that the World of Darkness universe is pretty cool. Who knows about the game. Personally, I don't care about a WoD MMO, but some people do.

Quote: Thats a lot of spin you are tossing out there mate. Be careful you don't get dizzy and fall flat on your face.
Pot, meet kettle.
It's apparent that you are correct about one thing, you've been out of the loop for a very long time, but you don't let that stop you from talking out of your ass.
1: Every game company uses their assets from ongoing projects to fund new projects.
2: Companies that don't will die, and their games along with them.
3: Development of a graphics engine that will enrich both games is a smart move, which is probably not obvious to people who don't understand that said development must be done incrementally. Those would be the same people that look at the initial framework for Incarna and can't understand that there is more to come.
4: MMO's, by necessity, never stop developing and iterating on content. If a feature were ever "complete", that would be the first step in the long slide into oblivion.
5: People with your business acumen and level of experience in developing online games are ideally suited to a future in fast food management.

I never checked out the vampire stuff at white wolf. The werewolf stuff was the most brutal **** I have ever seen in an RPG. It makes what they changed in AD&D look like romper room ahem, my little pony. Nothing whatsoever like Twilight.

1. But not every compnay is financialy sound enough to embark on multiple projects.
2. Patently false. Companies that bail from one game to another to keep the status quo are the ones that tend to die in a fire.
3. Yes of course. 'more to come' This has been a standard of eve development for nearly a decade. Hey guys look at this shiney new content and resub! Now don't be alarmed that said new content is actually just a bare framework with little actual content but hey we promise to flesh it out in time. Really! No! Really we promise!!!!!
4. Even world of warcraft when it introduces new content make sure its feature complete. You never get a new class with only a fraction of its content on launch day. Ever.
5. Lol. Well its a known fact that even the cheesiest fast food franchise makes tons more profit than ccp. Besides I can't remember the last time I ordered fast food and only got one of the items orders with a promise of the rest of the meal being delivered at a later date.

I don't agree with you.
If CCP were 'selling' any other product you might be right. However, CCP are amazingly lucky to have just one MMO that is successful. It's a bit like winning the lottery first time. The law of averages says that both Dust and WoD will probably fail.
(A big part of the luck is that Eve was 1st 'market entry' for a game of this type, WoD will be 2nd market entry after the Secret World - so it must beat this game, Dust is like 100th market entry - so basically, unless its brilliant it's stuffed.)
In other words, if CCP had re-invested all it's profits into Eve Online, this would actually be safer.
Also, I don't agree that putting effort into WoD and Dust helps Eve at all: WoD takes away creative ideas (for clothes and rooms etc) that Eve could have done with. Dust means that Eve players can never do planet PvP.

With each statement you make all you succeed in doing is proving my points. All it takes is for someone to check the validity of each point you made, which is easily done.
Just because you say a thing is so, does not make it so. Check your facts, then come back to us.
Companies that do not expand their offerings, die.
Companies that do not reinvest funds, die.
The "bare framework" you describe has more depth of game play than any other offering on the market.
WOW, or any other RPG, constantly tweaks and changes adds to their offerings their offerings.
Fast food franchises make money because people a lot smarter than you make the business decisions. Be content with making sure the floor gets mopped.

I'll admit it, it would be a distinct improvement.
All the other "NO YOU" crap aside, your original statement boiled down to "CCP is making an poor decision in using EVE funds to develop other games" (to put it in polite terms) and inferring that "successful companies would never do this".
Since this bold statement started the debate, I'm asking for you to prove it.

Ahh, the ccp alt accusation. The true indicator that someone just lost the debate.
Yes, I fully expect CCP to use their income to develop other products and split development time between them. Especially if that development time is used to develop code that will ultimately benefit EVE as well as their other offerings.
We are still waiting for you to substantiate your claim. ===== The world will not end in 2012, however there will be a serious nerf to Planetary Interaction. |

I'm still wondering why you are ok with ccp funneling money into projects that have zero impact on eve core gameplay development.
Sure ccp can do what they want with the money they get but it doesn't make it the right thing to do from an eve players perspective.
It goes to reason that if you are ok with ccp not using eves income to improve eve and instead using it to make even more eventual profits at the expense of its main game then you must be a ccp alt or an idiot.
Nothing else makes sense.

Except they ARE developing code that benefits EVE game play in addition to benefiting their future games. There has been an outcry for EVE to be more than just spaceships since the game was in beta.
Right or wrong doesn't enter into it, every game company reinvests some of their profits into new offerings. Mostly because they want to survive.
Not being short sighted, or instead preferring to be a realist, does not make one a CCP alt.
And we are still waiting for your proof that this is a poor business move. ===== The world will not end in 2012, however there will be a serious nerf to Planetary Interaction. |

The read what he ****ing posts, because he explains it quite well.
1. You are asking a question mired in fallacy. CCP is "funneling" money to other projects that will directly benefit EvE in the future. 2. See 1. as to why he supports it. . Adapt and overcome or become a monkey on an evolution poster.

So you are saying that because ccp wants to fatten their wallets its just fine and dandy to sacrifice your daily gameplay to some future date so the top ccp dogs can get a second summer home and a lambo in the driveway.
This is what is happening.
CCP didn't need to fund addtional projects to make bank.
But like every other modern company they decided to bilk the subscribers and use them to fund even moar profits?
Are you getting a cut? If not then oh wow you are the biggest tool in ccp's box.

Remember that incarna test vid from quite a while back? The one that had more vampire style clothes than the current eve incarna release has eve themed clothes?
Excuse me, what?
Do you work? Are you old enough yet? When you get paid from work, and your boss tells you what to spend your money on, will you listen?
We pay CCP their wages, why? because we pay for a game they made, it is THEIR money to spend it how they see fit. If they want to spend it on another game, they can do just that. Sure, they could put it into eve, a very old MMO game, or they could put it into a newer game and hope for a bigger fan base with that. Whatever the choice, it's theirs.

So you are saying that you are totally ok that ccp is not giving you the best eve experience it can because it wants to fatten their wallets off additional games that have little or nothing to do with eve?

lol, wow you are desperate aren't you. I gotta love those pathetic cry babies who accuse anyone and everyone of being CCP because they don't agree with them, damn, that really is desperate.
And yeah, I don't give a crap what they do with the money, it's THEIRS. I pay for eve because I like it. If you don't like it and you pay for it well, lol at you. If you buy plex, then hey, you have even less reason to say how they spend THEIR money.
Keyword :- THEIRS.
You should look up what a company does. If they can make more money making another game then that's 100% up to them. Period.

They shouldn't skimp on the current product though to have to do so, which is what is happening with Eve.
What if Coca Cola said, "Whilst we produce our new juice range for the next 18 months, we are going to stop producing all flavour related products, and the only line available will be plain Coca-Cola.
Sure, plenty of people love coke, and not sprite, or fanta, or diet coke. But there are others out there who don't like coke, and drink Coca Cola products for the other tastes.
Kinda see where i'm going? ______

It's their choice if they do or not.
Eve is an old game, it doesn't have that many subscribers in todays terms, even less so for those actually paying cold hard cash for it.
If they want to take a gamble at producing other games which will in turn, fill their pockets more than what eve does, that is completely up to them. It's their game, their money, and at the end of the day, if I was in their shoes and had a gamble at making more money, I would, as would most people - even if they try to act all ethical and say they wouldn;t.

The downward slide has only just begun. The damage done to this games subscriber base is only beginning to manifest itself.
Many accounts are prepaid for months in advance. Many more are run off PLEX. AS these accounts deactivate, and PLEX prices skyrocket due to simply lack of supply, server loads will drop even further.
I guess thats one way to deal with lag, huh? Find a way to eliminate bots, and we'll see how many people are really left.
