For my NPC hunting I stay at max missile range.. 4x heavy launchers (named or not) 1x Assault launcher (named or not)*to use with light missiles / defenders if you need to works wonders on those pesky speed drones. Med: Sheild booster (your choice) 10MN AB (I don't use MWD due to the penalties..) Cap charger / booster Multispec sheild hardner or other mod of choice Low: Med armour repairer (named or not but CRITICAL cause you're made of tissue and spit) Nanofibre Hull Mod (boosts the speed a fair bit and if you get into structure on a mission you're pretty much dead anyhoo
The Caracal is an awsome mission boat and can easily kite a frig swarm and 4 cruiser spawn in about 15 - 20 mins. Cloune d'Que!! zhey iss all ze Cloune d'que!! |

NPC setup (have doen 4/10s): 5x standard launchers 1x web, 1x 10mn AB II, 1x med shield boost 2, whatever else you would like.

As far as PvP goes... I really want to put a webber on my Caracel, which otherwise is similar to others discussed here. My only problem is that all webbers I've seen have a range of 10km, which means that frigates (which are the main target of webbers) will be able to stay out of my webber's range and I would not be able to catch them due to their speed and while they can still attack me I cannot do much if their speed is faster than my missiles. Is there any way around that? Thanks in advance.

Its quite an expensive setup for a cruiser but it works nicely for NPC'ing and for riping apart frigates and some other cruisers providing you can stay alive long enough to actually get anywhere (caracals have really weak shields I find which is crap for a caldari ship ) ________________________________________________ Stop Whining!!!

I do all L3's in a Caracal, including Angel/Gurista Extravaganza. Just orbit at 50km range and fire away. Always take down frigates first, especially the 70k+ bounty types as they MWD/webify.
Setup is pretty straight forward -
5x 'Malkuth' Heavy
1x Medium Shield Booster II 1x 10mn Afterburner II 2x Hardeners of choice (Usually Kenetic/Term unless AE)
1x PDU II 1x BCU

For L3 Missions take off a Ballistic Control, slap on a CPU 1or2 and swap the Medium shield booster for a Large.
For PvP I take off the Shield hardeners and replace for a Warp Disruptor and Webifier. And sometimes swap a low for an armour repairer.

Ive used my caracal for PVE since... well.. as soon as i could fly one!
It's a truely awesome cruiser. Cheap to replace, no-brainer to fit and a no-brainer to "use"!
I use: 5xArbalest heavies W/ scourge
1xNamed Med shield booster 1xNamed Med Cap Battery 1xCap recharger I 1xShield Hardener
1xBallistic control The last Low slot i can swap out for anything from a WCS to a cap power relay. I like to call it my "wild" slot :p ----------------------------------- My IBIS is knowed as "The ultimate power in the universe".

I use this setup w/scourge since the caracal only gives bonus' with kinetic damage missiles. EDIT: Gives me 1919 shield hp. Use this for NPC have no idea how it would go in PVP.
Good setup but the cpu usage is HIGH.
Maybe I should train skills up. I only have 345/345 cpu. What cpu skills you have and what lvl they are?

HI 4x stander heavy 1' (3 havox 1 thunderbolt) 1x standerd rocket full of defenders
MED 1x 10MN AB 1x Medium shield booster 1x large shield hardener (2000 shield :P) 1x ship scanner (no cpu left for much else)

I use it as a mission runner and works quite well :)

You have to switch your setups a bit depending on the mission:
Drone Missions: 3x Arbalest Rocket Launcher w/ Thorns 2x Malkuth Standard Launcher w/Bloodclaws
1x 10mn Afterburner II 1x Medium Shield Recharger 2x Cap Recharger
2x Ballistics
Frigate/Cruisers
3x Limos Heavy Launchers w/ Scourge 2x Malkuth Standard Launchers w/Blooclaw
1x 10mn Afterburner II 1x Web 1x Med Shield Rep. 1x Cap Recharger
2x Ballistics

I love all my caraclsàmany people donÆt understand how good of ship it is and the advantages it has, they are also very cheap to replace.

1.lol, 5 heavyÆs deal decent damage at any range! There is no need to go at optimal like many cruiser struggle with.
2.ôWhat about defenses?, I cant come up with decent tank..ö well if you cant, than maybe you need to think of other alternativesà.like jammers, fit 3 racials on your bird and you can paralyze almost any cruiser. Just make shore you switch them depending on opponents shipàworks grate for rat hunting.
3.At this point you are pretty much set, just fit 2 x CPR, for low slots. That will stabiles your cap at about 50% while running all 3 jammers.
à.and as for that 4th med slot, lol, go wildà I like med shield booster

I found that lvl2 drone missions dont even require a different setup, a basic heavy launcher setup destroys the drone silo in 1 volley :D -> warp -> blast a volley -> warp out, done.

I use this exact setup and it works pretty well. I rarely fail jams on anything smaller than a bship.

I'm surprised I haven't seen a "platacel" setup posted in here... a Caracel *can* be pretty rugged, if you can live without Heavies.
HI --- 5x named Standard Missile Launcher
MID --- 10MN Afterburner II 2x Capacitor Recharger Racial ECM or 3rd Cap Recharger
LO --- 1600mm Armor Plating (named if you can swing it) named Medium Armor Repairer
This setup requires Engineering lvl5 and Hull Upgrades lvl3 as well as Afterburner lvl4 for the tII AB. It's well worth every bit of it - I cleared a 4/10 Guristas complex with ease. A single volley of standards (I use a EM-kinetic-kinetic-explosive-kinetic salvo) will pop most frig rats instantly... clear the frigs quickly and the cruisers are sitting ducks after that.
Yessir, love me platacel - it's the only over-plated cruiser whose ship skill bonuses still apply to the undersize weapons. Can't beat that!

Has anyone experimented with a hybrid turret/missle mix on this ship? I wondered at the viability of using 1 or 2 small (maybe medium?) railguns (or med. blasters) as close defense weapon(s) rather than relying on drones or FoF missles. From what I've read, you never want to let anything get that close, but I seem to come out of deadspace accelerators smack in the middle of the hostiles and would like something to smack 'em with. If these seem like dumb questions I can only offer this: I have finally gotten my Cruiser skill high enough to fly it.

Not sure how long you've been playing EVE, but yours like some of the other setups I've seen have left me scratching my head.
Caracal has 5 high slots so why not fill all 5 of them. Some people have even used shield boosters and armour reps in the same setup... 
Well with my skills, including the new missile skills mostly at lvl 3, i've gone for the following:
High: 5 x Limos Med: AB II, Med Shield Booster II, Anointed EM Ward, Target Painter Low: 2 x BCU Drones: 4 x Acolytes
I can hit the NPC rats at 65km which is further than i can with a lot of my turret ships, even my Ferox and Moa unless i use sensor boosters etc.
The reason i bought this ship was just to play around with it to see if I would like a Cerberus. Well with a 6,5,4 layout, I can definitely say that I'd like a Cerberus, but my Ishtar comes first.
  
Verdit on Caracal - Very good cruiser and it does maximum damage at all its range. Just keep distance from rats, switch on booster as needed, and let rip. Job done.
