The same pattern happens every year. It's funny how people always blame low numbers on being busy getting back to work/school in the fall, winter vacation and being preoccupied with the holidays in the winter, spring break and then later final exams in the spring, and going away for the summer vacation in the summer. No matter what time of the year it is, the apologists always find a reason for why less people are logging in. Yet somehow, they forget entirely that MMOs are traditionally non-cyclical goods. ~18K pilots online currently at 5am my time, but this goes back 24 hours. Interesting how many ships have been killed in Highsec compared to other secs. Maybe I was actually sleeping in front of my computer and dreamed I posted. Certainly, it's not there now. |

Guys, Eve is dying and you all mock this guy. His numbers are all wrong anyway, its actually only 2k online a day during the week. Anyone that says otherwise clearly hasn't seen the player count when I log on just after dt.

Posting in a thread where some guy complains about people who are complaining all the time. Good times GD, good times.
On the topic of bitter vets:
Also yes, the whiny vets totally ruin this game. Staying in the game for almost 10 years and still enjoying and caring about the game surely will be the reason for EvE to die.
If vets are complaining about something it is people who make silly statements about them. I can assure you the few people who are still here from the old days are not the ones who come to the forums and whine about every little change ccp comes up with.
A vet is not someone from 2007 or 2006.... a vet is one of the guys who started back in 2003.. someone who has been there the whole time while EvE has been growing and tagged along in the process. The old players who did not start playing a fluffy version of eve where you get everything handed to you right from the start. Are you really surprised that those old Vets are getting bitter, when they hear those silly outcries of people whining that they do not mine enough ore, make enough ISK, got suicided, get their ships nerfed or whatever reason they can come up with?
With this I do not want to say the game was better in those days because it was a lot harder to be able to afford something bigger than a Rifter, something that was better was the player base.
And if this developement of whiny little cunts flooding in from other games keeps going that is something that will kill eve in its core. No matter how many subscribers there are, no matter how many people log in at some point. If EvE turns into Space Hello Kitty Online, then EvE really is dead. |

The game... and the whole industry, for that matter... is changing... change is scary and can end badly.
Many of the "old shool" gamers are upset by that... and they are still the most vocal group on forums and stuff, cause they actually care anough to make their concearns heard...

Hi,
In my opinion - I'm glad that the community has the ability and sentiment to be able to be vociferous about what ever irks them; it shows the best thing about this open ended game and it's open minded community. After all, why would some people complain if they didn't care so much about it ?
Of course, it does make my life a lot easier when people do so constructively
You'd be amazed how often we see these 'eve is dying' threads, and it really really isn't.
As a player, it just seems to me that this game, because of how open-ended it is, can sometimes make even the most committed people think that it's stagnated or otherwise gone off the boil; I know I've felt it at times.
The thing is though, for everyone who says 'eve is dying. eve is dead - no-one's playing anymore', there are a thousand people having a great laugh.

Dude I can tell you exactly why the numbers aren't going up...and it really has nothing to do with CCP not "dumbing down" High Sec.
It's the playerbase. That's right. You veterans call this game a sandbox and a "player-built" environment, which means you should then be ready to take responsibility, in large part at least, for the success/failure of the game.
1) The attitude on the forums and in game towards new pilots is astounding. 2) The fun activities in this game for the most part are reserved for a few huge Alliances that have ridiculous entry requirements because they are afraid of spies". 3) The one major training corporation (E-Uni) has an unreasonable application process for people with little playing time. 4) The tutorials in this game still suck. 5) New players like myself who take the initiative and do our own research have issues sifting through the dozens of sites that claim to give info. The knowledge bases need to be streamlined. Pick one or two sites and refer THOSE to new players.
As a newbie I can tell you that dumbing down the game is NOT the answer CCP. Making the knowledge more accessible is. Plus, if veterans would stop looking down their noses at new players and reach out to us, everyone would benefit. I guess that could be helped by CCP giving more safeguards against spies. This "VIP, Exclusivity" crap needs to stop. Alliances should be chasing down new players. Offering to teach them the game and take them along on ops to show them what they can look forward to if they stick with the game.
As usual, it's not the game that pushes new players away. It's Elitism, but of course I fully expect E-Snobs to flood this thread and insult me. 'Sall good. Just continue the status quo and let the game die. At this point I'm pretty much just holding out for Planetside 2 anyway.
(made an actual thread responding to this, but some douchebag ISD guy shut it down. Which is ironic as they happen to be another reason why I feel this game is failing. These guys sitting around eating mini-muffins and cheetos all day playing forum gestapo are quite irritating but whatever. People derive their sense of relevancy from diff places I guess). |

And since you already provided you own answer, it's not even a question, just a chance for you to advocate further safety and ease and harmonisation with "normal" MMOs, several years of which have conspicuously failed to produce the surge of new players that we're constantly told awaits around the corner of "just one more" PvP nerf..
Nevertheless, I'll provide one of my own, if that's OK with you.
People complain because they don't want things to really change. If they actually wanted change, they'd do something constructive and engage. Since I came to this realisation, some years ago, I have actually been pretty happy with changes I've wanted and that CCP have implemented, and every single time it has occurred after I and others like me have stopped complaining and started putting forwards constructive suggestions and engaging in real discussions.
Examples for me include (and don't get the idea that I am in any way trying to claim credit for these, only that I participated in the constructive effort to advocate them)
- The Insurance Nerf - Bounty Hunting - Wormhole-space (this wasn't exactly what I was advocating, but it fulfilled the conditions I wanted met better than my idea did)
Insults, badly typed posts, arguments based on "everybody knows" unsupported by hard facts, proposals based on narrow self-interest with no appreciation or interest in how the proposal will affect other aspects of the game, rampant tin-foil hattery... all these are the marks of the poster who wants to complain much more than he wants to be responsible for seeing anything actually change. You all know, no matter how much we deny it, the game is slowly dieing. The amount of people on during the week is barley topping 30k, now with EvE and the amount of systems, this is simply not enough players.
So why is it when CCP try to *dumb down* and make high sec *safer* for new players
You all start complaining like children?
Grow up, do you want EvE to dissapear or don't you care? We need more players, alot more players.
Quit your moaning Well first off name one MMO where the forums are not full of compliants??
I have played just about every MMO on the market and have yet to see one.
Secondly EVE is not dieing. If you actually pay attention, all MMO's drop in activity in the summer. EVE is no different. Prime time in the summer EVE usually sees around 20-30k players online. Prime time in the winter is usually around 35-40k.
I have recently seen times when there were over 50k online. That is a number a have not seen in over 3 years since I returned to EVE. I would say the game is very stable if not still growing. It is certainly not dieing.
I hate to be the bearer of bad new, but based on this post you are among the complainers.
EVE is an MMO, and no matter what the DEV's do, they will not make everyone happy. There will always be those who dislike the chosen changes. And those ones generally come to the forums to complain. This is the nature of MMO's. It always has been and always will be. |

Yeah I don't really see it. School and work eat up a lot of the day, so the actual number of players on tends to be pretty consistent across the time zones, 28k-32k except for a few deadzones of 14k for an hour or so....I saw it creep up almost 50k 2 week ago, on the week end, so...no...not dying per say, just depends on how much of a life outside of Eve the players have and where in the world they are. |
