Ice mining is CCP's punishment for you being a carebear miner.
You should know that the Devs believe this is a combat game and that they barely tolerate miners. I am sure that they get a good laugh when they read posts like the above. (Except they dont read them).

My 2p on the issue:
- Drop the size of ice units into smaller parts, like current ores.
- Meaning you need 300 units to refine.
- Allowing more dynamic methods of hauling.
- And allowing mining lasers to have a 60/180 second cycle.
This 5 minute thing makes me want to slash my wrists, and I am sure it helps macro miners.

If you think you can do a better job, go find yourself a datacentre to host a box, get a copy of Visual Studio, and STFU.

I donŠt believe it. Miner whine that they have no chance to do something besides mining (in RL) because they have to drag and drop the ore once a minute. Now they get a ship, which has a much longer circle and now they whine that is is too boring
I LOVE the long circles. I watch TV and have one Eye on my screen.

The answer's obvious.
CCP, develop an awesome minigame. Get pop-cap, who made Bejewelled, to do it for you. Then smother it in RP - you're calibrating the mining blah blah blah blah blah. People'll sit their for hours. Better scores, better yields. ---:::---

EverQuest had 'Gems' to pass time while waiting for that raid to start.

Anyway ice mining killed the last brain cell I had... it boldly survived the days when I started up my industrialist char and had to mine to build some cash...

Ugh dont remind me of that. Sitting, while staring at a book, while fishing, and playing gems, only to regain mana in order not to be a overly gimp melee character... I am still trying to erase EQ from my brain from so many years ago.

Well what annoys me with ice mining is that unlike regular ore mining if for whatever reason the cycle gets disrupted before the 7.5 minutes is up you get NOTHING.
Ore mining you stop early and you get a fraction of the amount for the time mined.
That is the one thing that I think EVERYONE could agree on that needs change. I don't know how many times I have node crashes and had to start all over agin eaxh time.
Yes I agree also that either the size of ore mined be reduced to 500 m3 or the yields be increased to 500 units of isotopes per unit of ice ore.
Also I think that since heavy water and liquid ozone are easy to mine and found in large amounts in most ice fields that the fuel usage should be doubled over current amounts and isotopes decreased.

first solution should be to realy make the iceblocks smaller in fillrate. at the moment u need month to mine a single block with up to 5 large barges 24/7.
make them smaller to ban all makrotool users. no roid should life longer than 30 minutes. after that, increase the miningrate and fix the miningtime so roids still life around 30 minutes.
for tech2 ice harvs, i dont think they will come, they will kill all iceminers that re not skilled high enough. it would be a 100% output more and that will never happen. they must increase the ice harvs tech1 to mine more than a single one to implement tech2 ice harvs.

one more point that they didn't know how icemining works and how boring it is to sit infront of the screen and waiting for the next batch to move it into the hauler can. the mainquestion at those moments is "what am i doing here ?".
50 isotopes more is not really a better feeling, even 1000 isotopes or 10k is still the same feeling. i sit infront of the screen and NOTHING happens in a complete hour. i ve to move sometimes the mouse. next year we plan a party, when the first iceroid is killed .... wow. is something like an historical event, but we re frigthend if we can move the mouse onto another roid to lock it and start miners. many clicks todo, more than normally.
reading a good book ... great idea ... i pay CCP that i can read Tom Clancy ???

Ice in 0.0 is being improved, not the empire one. Its going from 175 to 350. Doesnt do much for the boredom, but makes ice more lucrative to mine in 0.0 than in empire.
Maybe CCP is counting on the exciting Ice mining to lure more people out to 0.0.....

question is .. dont we have an extra skill to increase the yield (less time) for ice mining like astrogeology is for mining.
Additionally - why dont the mining barges give bonuses to ice mining? Requiring astro lvl5 to fly is im sorry to say - not logical as the skill really does not have ANY effect on ice mining (does on strip mining)
All in all said... i think the ice mining is fine as it is IF additional skills or bonuses could be trained for it.
A lvl5 rank3 skill with -5% time to ice cycles would give you a cycle of a bit more than 5 and a half minute.
Further addition with mining barges giving bonuses to ice mining will bring up the ice mining to managable levels. ...new sig coming up Ravenal - Fate is what you make of it. |

you already have a reduced time at 7.50 without skills it would be 10 mins

With mining, you get normal mining, and astrogeology to increase yield. With Ice harvesting, you get 1 skill to train to reduce time. We'd like to reduce the time even more.
I believe thats what he was saying.

Seriously, if all your going to do is add crap to a conversation, don't post. Even the "I like mining ice and going afk" people have more to add then this.
It's a valid topic, and people have some valid concerns.

Its not crap cause I DO mine ice and I DO make a good living at it. I just find it pretty absurd when people start whinning about it cause thy dont want to spend the time in accepting the fact tht its all part of the game. Plain and simple. Granted its a very slow and boring job, to say the least, but who knows what the future holds for ice mining. After all in normal mining you got all them different lasers to better your yield. Which I hope is the same path that ice mining is going to lead too. Till then it is what it is and maybe, just maybe we'll have ice laser II to cut your yield time in half. So enjoy it.

As a rule of thumb tech II gear is at best 20% better than tech 1 gear, so dont get your hopes up too high.

Last I checked, eve online was a game, thus shouldn't have too terribly much in common with a job.
The people who you are calling whiners have a very valid issue with the ice mining grind. For you it might just be a way to make a living, but without the stresses on standard gameplay involved in keeping POS up and online 23/7 your hardly going to understand their complaint.

Anytime you earn money be it dollars or isk, you got to WORK. So its a job be it in RL or EVE. And for your info I do manage a couple of POS so dont tell me about stress. I do UNDERSTAND but I dont need to make an issue of it. Thats probably why I DONT have the stress that you apparently have. But hey each to his own. Have a nice day and I do mean have a nice day

Erm, It is an issue man. Just because you don't feel like you need to make it an issue does not mean that other people who do feel the need to make it an issue are wrong.
As far as stress, it is a stress when you absolutely must log on to take care of something in a JOB like manner in a game, and if you don't, suffer horrible losses.

Lagartija Nick Dude, Im not saying its wrong. As a matter of fact I agree with everything you say about ice mining. But its only a game mon, it is what it is. You do what you can to overcome this MINOR obstacle. There are ways to deal with it. And if you let this thing get to you, imo, you ain't gonna have fun. So I wish you all the BEST, seriously. This is all I have to say on this matter. I'm goin to kick back, have my drink closeby, browse the forums and mine some ice. Have a nice day and be Happy.
