I have a better idea in avenging yourself still using secure, without fitting engines. Mind you, I didn't read all the posts so sorry if someone else had the same thought. I'd say buy a whole bunch of small (= cheap) secures and anchor one close to every one of the secure that belong to the corp of those pompous guys and use them as graffitti posts nagging them (smart insults usually work better). Claim a reward (heafty one) to clean up your offensive messages.

On the issue of having the container fight back....
While I realize this is not the primary goal of the project, I believe there are a few ways in which your design can be modified to do a little damage without much cost or effort.
1) Carry mines, and just dump them out the lid. Of course, no one knows how to work the dang things yet, but that will be solved sooner or later. The other problem about this is what if someone decided to take a shot inside the lid? You'd have a nicely contained explosion that would quite happily vapourize you. But hey, no idea is perfect.
2) Load it up with FoF missile and dump those out the lid. It would be quite a devistating surprise, and would have the advantage of not getting civies caught in the blast.
3) My favorite, who needs weapons? With the speeds you're talking about, the container could be its own missile, ripping in one side of a BS and out the other. All that would be needed is maybe a little point on the front, and of course the obligitory shark paint.
Now, here's another idea along the same lines that you might find easier to start with than making a full ship. Perhaps make a pod out of a container? You could make cloning facilites obsolete.

What if we just anchor the SC and then get something like an inty to ram it, unanchoring just before the ram. As soon as we start to move we slam on the 1MN MWD and [hopefully] away we go.
Now obviously there might be a few flaws with this. The most obvious being does an inty have the rquired integral mass to get the thing moving? I propse a testing phase this weekend with a multitude of SCs in a line and ram tests done with every ship in EVE. At least one of them must be able to move the damn things.
The second flaw is human error could potentially put our inty/ship pilot in danger if the SC piot forgets to unanchor... However I have already thought of a way around this - we just use a few minmitar slaves to get things moving. We put implants in their heads and if they try to run away - the inty has a nasty new paint job... ________________________________________________ Stop Whining!!!

Maybe instead of using the traditional internal slot design of most ships, you can jerry rig the MWD to the outside, along with a small power plant to run it. The downside would be is if someone shot at you, you'd be unable to move.

You don't need Hi/Med/Low slots if you're minmitar since you can just bold rubish onto the side of you ship (or Secure Container...)!!!!!!!!!!!
All we need to do is take a secure can into a maintenance bay on a POS and mess around with the really big powertools that they must surely have!!!
We can then mimick minmitar engineering and bolt onto the secure can anything we want!!! If it worked for them with scaffolding poles and solar pannels (its a well known fact that the reason you can't hit minmitar ships with lasers and hybrids is because the shots go straight through the gaps in them) it can work with MWDs and turrets/missile launchers, etc...!!!!!!!!

Interesting Thread . . . There are two BIG problems I see w/ securing stuff to a secure can . . .
Problem 1
Everything will get blown off. The can itself can take a beating but attachments to the can will most likely get destoryed. Solution?
Form a ship out of multiple cans!!!!! Instead of focusing on using just one can, buld a ship out of multiple small cans. Use them like building blocks. A pod cant survive IN a can . . .but the pod will be safe SURROUNDED by cans. Immagine a sphere of cans held together by a strong eletromagnetic field. It will have to be a strong EM field because any type of welding will probably be easily blown off by weapons.
Maybe if individual cans contain their own power source to generate an EM field that would create a strong enough bond between all the cans to create a secure hull.
Problem 2
The uber hauler of DOOM. The ship MUST be big enough to resist being 'scooped' into someone's cargo bay. We will have to figre the size of a Gal. Hauler w/ all lower slots filled w/ cargo expanders. And from there the ships total volume has to exceed that.

I don't know - your pod can survive in open space (well, subject to pirate interference). So I'd have thought i'd do for life support in a container too.
Speed might be the problem though, if a MWD is a multiplier, you need quite a few overdrives to 'multiply up' to a sensible speed.

Station Container/Vault anyone?
Life can't survive in cans . . . I'm not sure if a pod can survive in a station vault . Thats why I proposed the creation of a shell of cans w/ the pod floating in the middle of them

Slaves, marines etc can indeed survive in a station container or vault. And as pointed out already, there's no danger of a Badger scooping your vault up and running away. Rather the badger would have to up skirts and leg it in fear of being scooped aboard. Think of the station vault as the Dreadnaught Can of the eve universe, with it's mighty 10M m3 capacity, it could spew out an armarda of almost 40 Badgers to scoop any enemies who dare copy the concept with secure cans.

A sad day for science so far my friends... a few of our ideas have proven less than adequate I'm afraid:
Originally by: Manny Tanato My family and I shall then offer thanks and prayers in your general direction
Your prayers are welcomed. Sadly I must point out that experimental results conducted by our Amarrian team and their slaves show that faith does not move containers (or put slaves into containers, for that matters!)
Originally by: Flash Landsraad (...)the SC and then get something like an inty to ram it, unanchoring just before the ram
Tested... but doesnt work. Any NPC hunter/mission runner trying to pick up the loot knows this strange fact of space phisics: no matter the momentum of your ship (mass*speed) it will ALWAYS bounce against the container, the container not moving. So much so if its anchored.

This interesting posibility has been mentioned a couple of times, and it does solve the pod-survability issue. It brings two additional problems, though: -So far the objective of the project (move ONE container) has not been achieved... thus moving many belongs still to the theoreticall drawer.
-The cost, people, the cost!!!
Seems many of you have too many billions laying around (which you could of course donate to this research effort). If we start piling up thousands of containers, then the cost skyrockets!!

Ahah! That's a semantic issue. Actually the station is booted out the lid of the gigantic can. But for politic purposes we are forced to accept the concept that the station is the one ejecting the can.

As per your suggestion, some research effort has been bypassed from the UTTM to the GATE project.
This is a very first rough prototype, so your feedback on this effort welcomed!
(And no, for the record, the portrayed container doesn't move)

Hail Herko for shifting our transportational paradigm!
I would like to propose solving these technical issues with the single greatest object of irrational love......self.
Through neural implant technology, we as post human pod pilots aquire the necessary implants to literally BECOME the object of our transportation. For instance: Rather than noodling about endlessly grasping at the problem of fitting guns on our Uber-Tin-Can-Tanker-O-Doom, we invest in the open research of the necessary neural implants to kill through tele-kenesis, Mega-Pulse eye beams, explosive gas mines, and Gattling spit balls. Under these conditions, anything can become an extension of self....including a secure can. Fly into an asteroid? Hell, just board it and fly away!
MinerJoe> Hey! Where is that Veld roid I was mining? Andicuri Vas> Bwahaahaha!.....Zoom!
Brings a whole new meaning to ore thievery, no? Unfortunately, this makes Strip Miner II's the weapon of choice.
or
Hysterical1> Pirates in local! Hardcore> What are they flying? Hysterical1> 2 Ice and a Kernite Hardcore> Get the barges mates!
or
Sneaky Pete> I have instas all the way to Yulai!
Meanwhile, you actually board the gate , slide it over 30k, sit back and enjoy.
Sneaky Pete> What the....?
"Approaching Sta......SPLAT" Pure Comedy Gold.
When it comes to self, I simply want what I want. I want to be all that I can be. I want to become whatever I want to become. I want to go wherever I want to go in whatever material I want to use to get there. E=MC2 people.
We may have to get the Jovians to help on this one.

So do I, my friend... so do I! It's just that those territorialistic pig-dogs you guys talk so much about don't seem to be irrational enough to love me & my ship as much as I do...
Where love (or lack of...) fails, science will triumph!

I'm sorry to bring this to your attention... But with what tool would you modify this can?
It would take a laser powered by a handfull of suns, just to cut a hole in it. I can't even imaginge what it would take to actualy weld something on to it.
You could ofcourse go for leather belts, rubber bands, or the classic duckedtape, to keep thing attached. But even though you would safe inside the can itself... All the stuff that makes it move would fall of if just graced by spacedust.

Please dont be sorry! Questions are science's AB!
A valid question indeed, but again from the point of view of a fighter pilot: always wanting to blow up stuff, always looking for an excuse to bring'em lasers...
Containers dont grow on tree, now do they? Obviously they are manufactured, and in different sizes to boot!! Somebody out there gotta know how to build and modify containers, this can hardly be an issue!

You can now buy individual construction components on the market. Buy a reactor unit (any should work fine), a thruster (definitely go with a Minmatar Plasma Thruster, we're aiming for speed here), and then in order to fit the MWD, a capacitor (I suggest an Amarrian Tesseract Capacitor unit, they're known to be very powerful to handle those giant lasers the Amarrians are so fond of) and a CPU (again, doesn't really matter which). ___________________________________________ ^^^***---All things serve the Beam---***^^^ |

Other than that, may I suggest perhaps launching the can from a Citadel launcher? That would get it moving. Steering will be a next step though...
Hm. Put someone in the can, launch it, and let the "pilot" think of something- the thought of being splattered all over a stargate should inspire creativity...
