It works at full speed on a large tower

The small CT¦s are a nice toy, but I cannot imagine it¦s possible to break even with it (if you aren¦t mining Promethium, which is very rare). Who will buy your minerals, if everbody with a normal CT can mine them themself?

lmao, the raven isn't going to get a nerf.
Missiles are going to get "fixed". And about bloody time, too.

Edited by: SC0RPY on 30/03/2005 09:09:52 I really dont understand the situation with small and medium pos. I have an example: I mine 100 units of moon mineral every hour with large structure and sell this mineral fo 5000pu. Large POS eats fuel and that is 8millions per day if just buy it on market. Selling Minerals (5000*2400 = 12m) and buying fuel (8m) i have 4million ISK per day in my wallet. So what about Medium POS ? I mine (5000*1200 = 6m) and buy fuel (4m) - so i have 2m per day. With Small POS ? I mine (5000*600 = 3m) and buy fuel (2m) - tahts 1m per day. Is that funny ?

I'm not laughing. The ONLY good news for me is the medium reactor running at normal speed when attached to a full size tower.

I have 2 POS running with 4 reactors, mining 3 metals and 1 Silicates. The cheapest ingrident for the complex reaction I buy on the market(far below the costs which would be required to actualy mine it). It DOES NOT PAY OFF with so much competition. Most people do not believe such a perfect setup and productionchain would be possible at all. The Profit is miserable. If Missionrunners really earn that much money, why wouldn¦it be ok if tech2 prices just increased?
The tech2 BPO owners get the most profit and they keep the supply small so prices don¦t go down. On the other hand they are able to choose which supplier of materials to buy from, which just makes the POS owners fight over who can keep the lowest production costs for his materials. - it¦s jsust like there were two sides: tech2 BPO owner and on the other side the POS owners. the POS owner does not need to form a cartel, he is almost alone with his BPO in his region and can set the prices at which he is willing to buy, while the POS owner coalition desperately tries to beat each ones prices.
I think the best solution to the problem is to force the BPO owners to compete more with each other, but not by inserting more tech2 BPOs into the game, but instead do another thing:
Missionrunners should not get able any more to get construction components as missionrewards, but instead be provided with tech2 BPCs. This would generate more demand on tech2 construction components and open the free market for those. The tech2 BPO owners would also be forced to lower their prices on tech2 and pay higher prices to the POS owners.
The Problem remaining would be that a few guys occpupied the few moons containing really rare minerals and demanding dire prices for their Metals, while the more common metals generate too much competition to be sold with profit. kind regards, Skeltek

Scorpy : Good numbers , very interesting but could you also say how many people are needed for each one of pos you have tried ? Because i dont really see the point to have 8M divided beetween 2 or 3 people / day for this works...

It might be difficult. We don't have any experience from POS except from testing a bit on the test server, but hey, we're willing to give it a try. We have come to the conclusion that we would most probably need to find a permanent buyer, at least. Maybe there are people out there who need a little extra of the minerals we can sell.
Here is another thing I've been thinking about: A small POS has a harvesting cycle of 4 hours, 4 times the cycle of the "normal" POS of today. That is the "punishment" for having a small tower. From what I understand it's not possible to run a reactor on a small control tower, right? Correct me if I'm wrong. I wonder: Why? Wouldn't it be more "fair" or better if it was possible, but to some kind of "punishment" as for the harvester? I don't know if it's the CPU required for the reactor that makes it impossible or what, but if it is, why not make the reactor use 25% of its normal use and let the reaction cycle be 4 times as long? It would make sense. Small tower = 25% of everything of a big tower. And then of course the medium tower at 50% of everything.
If it's impossible, or just much harder, to make a profit from a small POS, why have them at all? Just so the already big and rich companies can have a cheap addition to their already profitable setup of POSes so they can mine themselves instead of buying whatever they are missing? It doesn't make sense to me. It would make it easier for the already big and rich to be even bigger and richer, and at the same time it would make it more difficult for smaller and new companies to break into the market and make a living of it. The big companies would run the market even more than today. So CCP: make it easy and "fair". Make the small and medium towers exact clones of the big ones, but with 25% and 50% of everything compared to the big ones.
This would mean that if a big POS makes 10 mil a day, an exact copy of it, but with a medium tower would make 5 mil, and a small one 2,5 mil. A 5 person company will find it hard to run a big POS with all the fuel it requires, but a small tower would work. There wouldn't be any advantages or disadvantages with having one or another tower. It would just give more people and companies more choices and opportunities. The free market would become even more free too.
Am I totally out of line with this, or do I make sense?

As I understood it, it wasn't so much that small and med POS were downsized versions of the large one but they were supplements to it. Maybe not as much the medium, which can feasably operate on it's own, but especially the small. It allows POS owners to run complex reactions and most of their mining in one large facility while having smaller POS' to get other necessary ingredients for a profitable situation. It's very (VERY) rare to find a moon that can get you everything you need. It's much easier to use multiple moons. |

Edited by: Ranx Xerox on 05/04/2005 07:53:01 Devric did you realise you are speaking about winning 1M by day with medium POS ? This including Hauling, running front PK, and hoping it will not been blast by a corp tirred to see your pos here ?
Or maybe the small and medium pos will be allowed in >0.4 systems ? |

Edited by: Devric on 05/04/2005 09:08:44 From what I understand the new towers will only be working in 0.4 systems or lower. No difference there between the different sizes.
I read somwhere about new fuel requirements for the towers as well. Today's 500 units of isotopes per hour should be decreased to 300. I can't remember where I read it, but I'm 99% sure it was straight from the horse's mouth. This would make it easier to make a profit, from all 3 sizes.
It's obvious that you guys have experience from running a POS, no doubt about it. Our company does not. So in the beginning we wouldn't care so much if we only made 1M a day. That would be fine with us. Once up, we would not be satisfied with that. We would look for new/more partners, new moons probably, upgrade to a larger tower if needed, and so on. In other words, we would see to that we would get more experience. One year after starting our first small POS, we wouldn't be satisfied with making only 1M a day. On the other hand we would have experience, maybe of running multiple POSes. We would hopefully have a network of partners and probably be part of an alliance somewhere. However, I doubt we would strive for being a corporation with 50 or 100 members. We would most probably stay small. It would be too much work with a corporation with many mambers, and we are here to have fun, not to work. It's only a game.
You can't run before you can walk, and right now we are learning how to stand up. We would not start a POS with the attitude of taking market shares from others. No, we would like to be a contributing part of EVE and the market. Probably not a big part, but still... Of course there would be people seeing us a a threat, "stealing" shares from "their" market, wanting to see our little POS exploding, making another moon avaliable for them. Greed is a powerful force that brings out the worst in many people. Making 100M a day is just not enough for some people. Having 10.000B in the account is not enough either. Must be boring not being able to be satisfied.
It's interesting to hear you guys and your points of view. As a total POS n00b I need any information I can get. Don't be surprised if you find our corporation joining your alliance one day, or maybe even asking you about a partnership some day, selling/buying/trading material. On the other hand, maybe one of you will bombard our POS with a brand new Titan one day, who knows?

Edited by: Devric on 05/04/2005 10:53:38 0.3 or 0.4... To tell you the truth, I have no idea. If it's 0.3 for the POSes today, I'm sure it's 0.3 for the others too. Probably my wrong. That shows you what a threat I am to the other companies.
