PVP is only a single aspect of this game which is touted as a "do what you want" sandbox yet those of us that enjoy other aspects of it are excluded from participating in tourneys.
I propose CCP would organize tourneys catering for the other professions as well. They could be on smaller scale and smaller prizes. The trials could be:
- Fastest attack on a 10/10 plex or incursion site
- Fastest delivery of courier packages, both regular and jump freighter
- Fastest salvage of a field of wrecks
- Fastest probing down of a group of anomalies
- Fastest gathering of resources to produce certain items, or who can build the most in a given amount of time
- Fastest mining of a belt
These are just some ideas. I believe they are all very competitive and dependant on player skill and most importantly coordination between a group of players. This is just one person's opinion, but to me watching a match of ships blowing each other up is as exciting as watching grass grow. However blitz mining is something I do and relate to and i would be interest in seeing how other groups of people would attach the same problem. |

None of those ideas would make sense because they're inherently non-competitive in nature, which is why they're considered boring. That and most of the things you describe could be calculated from your skill sheet and thus negate the purpose for a tournament. |

I don't quite see the conflict in those, at least not in a way that would make for much of a spectacle.
They already have a format for mining competitions, though, but its main feature is that it's just as much about depriving the opponent of mining ships as it is about actually getting the oreGǪ

- Fastest delivery of courier packages, both regular and jump freighter - 100% based on trained skills, who can light a cyno faster
- Fastest salvage of a field of wrecks - 100% based on trained skills
- Fastest probing down of a group of anomalies - Could be legit, mostly trained skills but some player technique involved
- Fastest gathering of resources to produce certain items, or who can build the most in a given amount of time - 98% trained skill based
- Fastest mining of a belt - 100% trained skill based
PvP tournaments work because although a large part of PvP is trained skills, most of it comes down to player skill. Skill at fitting, skill at creating an effective fleet composition, skill at FC, skill at manual piloting.
Most of the things that you posted do not involve and player skill, only trained skills and effectively boil down to "More SP wins" |

While a great idea it would really be a waste of money because if he had to wait until something exciting happened before he could say it..... Well I don't remember the last time something happened when I was hauling a freighter that could be considered "exciting". |

I mined for primary income for the first 8 months of my EVE career. I sometimes still mine. It is not something that is fun. It is, at best, 'relaxing'. That does not make for good television, basically.
