How about a competition to see who can get abused the most in local after ganking someone? I think it would be good for giggles You lose it here, you're in a world of hurt....-á |

Regardless whether the OP is trolling or serious, I'd like to see a tourney that:
1) doesn't cost upwards of $300 to participate.
2) accounts for major holiday disruption in a primary subscriber locale. +++++++ I have never shed a tear for a fellow EVE player until now. Mark GÇ£SeleeneGÇ¥ Heard's Blog Honoring Sean "Vile Rat" Smith. |

What, afraid you can't make that Kessel run in 12 parsecs?
Seriously though, I thought all activities in Eve were, by definition, PvP? I am what you refer to as a Carebear...I care very much about the future New Eden and Eve and couldn't bear the Chicken Littles destroying that. |

How can you accomplish #2? Brits are a primary subscriber locale, but they have a bank holiday every week!
As for 1, you need some method of preventing everyone from joining. Plexes are actually a smart idea. Some groups will buy plex with isk, but far more will say screw it, pool resources and buy the plex outright. CCP makes money and could seed the olex back to the market, reducing plex prices. Or they could just use the cash to help cover their end of the tourney such as commentators, setup, reinforced node for the tourney, etc. Just because ownage is putting up the prize money doesn't mean.they are paying all expenses. Both groups have to invest some money in the hopes of drawing in new customers. (ownage is hoping more viewers from eve start watching other events, increasing their viewer pool, and ccp is hoping other gamers who watch become interested in eve.) |

Fastest probing down of a group of anomalies - Could be legit, mostly trained skills but some player technique involved
Not much technique involved in on board scanner -> scan.

This could be done scavenger hunt style. Place random ships around the solar system with a specific mod equipped or item in the cargo. The prober would have to probe out the ship fly to it and scan it then move onto the next one and repeat. Have like 4-6 ships and when they get back to the rally point they have to name the item that was equipped or in cargo to win the prize. If they don't name them all then the next person gets his chance to.
That could be kinda fun. |

My god, CCP is going out of their way after keeping this game fun for years in making a tournament like this. This is a big risk for them but i think it will pay off and players will like it. So why all the haters? Why can't CCP come up with a tourny like this for a game they gave to us for all these years? If you think the tourny sucks then start your own tourny, you fork over all the effort the risk the time and money and you make an event......what? oh you dont want to.....then just show some respect to those who can and do. |

I propose a tournament to bump capships out of POSses. I am sure it would look something like this |

- Fastest salvage of a field of wrecks - 100% based on trained skills
Madam, allow me to illustrate. When clearing a field with a Noctis first and foremost the pilot must be a good multitasker to keep all his salvagers busy the whole time. He must simultaneously: loot wrecks that are close, select another wreck and activate salvagers on it when the last is done, then target another wreck, wait for the tractor to deactivate from the previously salvaged wreck then activate it on the newly acquired target.
Also there are other strategies to consider: move around following the wrecks or stay stil? Moving around is more effort because you have to manually target on space the wrecks that are being left behind not letting them get out of range. When those wrecks are in multiple clusters, at which point to start moving towards the new one? Also, how fast to burn? Burning too fast lengthens the tractoring time of the wrecks being left behind, OTOH shortens that of the ones being approached so it is a trade off as to the optimal moment to start burning off and how fast.
Standing still also allows for another advanced tactic: manually deactivating the tractors on wrecks that have already 'arrived' so another one can be tractored immediatelly. This is important when pulling multiple wrecks that are far away to avoid the salvagers sitting idle with no close wrecks while all tractors are busy.
Finally, if using the above strategy, the player must consider how many tractors and salvagers to fit. If he expects most wrecks to be close 5 salvagers would be a good idea, otherwise 5 tractors might be best. An auto targeter, to increase the maximum allowed number of targets, is also useful to reduce pilot load because more wrecks can be targeted and the job of reactivating tractors becomes easier.
Finally, there's the decision of fitting for salvage or cargo, the former potentially wasting time with extra trips to drop off the cargo.
So you see, that is the depth of the profession of the salvager. I believe it is clear how it could be a competitive event and how the outcome would depend on player skill, not character skill.
Similar narratives can be made for the other competitions as well. |
