Everyone (including me) wants things to be like they were. I miss the days of mining in a bantam for massive 50k returns, when cruisers were a distant memory, but something to look forward to. When all the possibilities that are yet to be explored are the most exciting thing. Every one of us have something we miss, this is argument number 1.
CCP have changed the game a lot since release, are still changing it, and I reckon must have learned a lot of lessons. A lot of the players here are upset that their chosen specialisation is boosted then nerfed then changed. A reset would benefit them because they'd know what the dilly is, and could get down on it much more effectively (this is assuming ccp have found a balance by this point). People would be able to try a new avenue in the game. This, is argument number 2.
It is my estimation that, once the all-time players-online record stops being broken at regular interval, the game stops growing in size and starts dying. Ideally, I would like to see an exponentially increasing amount of new people subscribe to the game each period, this would benefit everyone with no exception. Would be newbies are frightened away however, once they have done even a tiny amount of research, and find out that due to the Eve skill training system they will essentially never catch up with other players. Although you can argue that resets will get rid of an equal number of veteran players who don't want to lose all they've 'worked' for, I believe boredom would eventually have the same effect on these vets. And also, if the players consider playing the game work, perhaps they should Take A Step Back And Realise It's Just A GameÖ, and don't belong here anyway. Eve is at heart, a game of competition with other people, otherwise we might as well all play X2 or Freelancer. Periodic resets will bring in more players, and this is argument number 3.
Periodic resets are already tried and tested in some MMOGs, like Brower based Planetarion, Starsphere and others. The game will grow and not stagnate, we can take lessons from nature. Some chavs set a field on fire summer last year, near where I live, but later all the mordor-like steaming blackness turned quickly into the greenest green on the whole field.
I know this idea may seem a bit extreme, but it is also right. Understand, that all you are losing is items and things and digital money. You will keep your experience and knowledge of the game. Veteran PvPers will still be that, and still have the big advantage over newbies. People often use the phrase It's Just A GameÖ when defending their previous killing of a forum-whiner, and these are the last people I expect to leave when their assets are incinerated in the reset.
Please try to keep an open mind if replying to this. As Mahatma Gandhi once said, "Open minds 4tw \o/."
Reset me I would quit this game and I would not sell my charactors I would just let them die.
So that I would not be replaced by someone else. Because I would mean 2yrs playing down the tubes. 18 mil sp Shot and all the work I have done gone. you must be crazy. This is not quake I worked a billion hrs to be what I am. NO
