Ok, getting rid of alts isn't an option now for many people since they have invested time in their characters becuase they have chosen to use them for the reasons they were introduced in the first place.
So...
My idea was to give each character slot on each account 2 "lives". The each time you create a character on that slot you use up a life so you can create a maximum of 2 characters on each slot before they become locked.
But...
If you were to use up both lives on the character slot you can pay a fee (real life money here) to gain another life on it again and create a fresh character.
What this means is that people who constantly abuse and recycle their alts suddenly find they need to pay real life cash to make fresh alts so this should cut down on the alt abusers. Those that keep making expendable alts to abuse and recycle are more the fool becuase they are throwing away alot more money than anyone else.
The 2 lives ensure new players have a total of 6 chances to create their main character just the way they want and explore all 4 races with 2 extra "lives" to spare.
Players who have made alts for legitamite purposes and don't recycle them buyt genuinely invest time into developing them (not everyones an sp ***** ) remain unaffected.
It may also help introduce a form of accountablity, suddenly people who find they can't make new alts have to live with the reputation they have given their alts.

My idea - tie the alt's hands behind his back and then he can't abuse himself, can he? -- ** All accounts cancelled - have fun guys ** |

Best idea on the subject of alts yet, but as always someone will moan and complain that recycling alts has some sort of purpose in the game and that its working as intended.

Nice idea, Wild. This gets my backing.
Alts are taking up functions that could be easily done by main characters making them more responsible for their actions. Specialists in scouting, intel, hauling, spies etc can then make themselves available as professions which just isn't happening right now.
So in war, the way is to avoid what is strong and to strike at what is weak. |

I don't understand why it's such a big deal to move to 1 character per account and lower the subscription rate accordinly. But I do know that anytime I suggest it I get flamed to h*ll and back by people who can't seem to read the entire post, think for a minute, then contribute.
Ah well, such is life. Anything that lowers the "typical spy/forum whoring" alt population is a good one imo.... signed.

A good idea, but only a few misuses of Alts require a new Alt to be created frequently - because of very bad standing/reputation. And bad standing / reputation can take a while to attain for all bar the most hardcore Alt abuser.
The Alt exploits/cheats for example to negate the risk in travelling/making bms in dangerous space or avoid taking a standing hit when transporting contraband and so would not need a new Alt either ever or for a considerable amount of time.
My opinion is still that Alts should be removed altogether but this is probably the best idea yet to make me rethink that

Or how about a family name. Ie in my case I'm Amaron Ghant. Any Alt created on the same account would be called "whatever" Ghant. At least that way you can trace the scheming thieving *****mongering bastage of an alt back to his main.

my alt is now my main, and my main is my alt, and my 3rd char, is my main, which was my alt's bad bro.

Nice idea but a lot of alts aren't on the main account they are trial accounts, and trust me i've used a lot of trial accounts recently but not for alts. I had to use them because i had to make my main inactive and still wanted to stay in touch with friends.
So TBH even if they implement this idea i could still get an infinate ammount of alts to use if i so wanted to.
Nice idea but in practice isn't workable :)

The main problem with this "fix" is that it only prevents recycling for the most undesired behavior, such as Yulai indy ganking. That is prohibited by the game moderation team anyhow and carries penalties as far as I know.
People that use alts for escrow scamming and abusing communication media aren't going to recycle their alts, nor will they stop abusing the anonymity it offers them.
Since alts cannot be deleted at this stage of the game, the only viable solution I can see is to 1)bill individually for each character (All the normal abuses are available to second or trial accounts anyhow), or 2)move all alts to separate servers.
I like either of those solutions. Moving alts automatically according to their relative amount of SP to separate servers would be desired by newer players who would prefer to play on a more even keel anyhow. People who have balanced their SP between two character would have earned any advantage in the new sphere. Their solo character in the original server would just have to learn to be interdependent on others instead of being a jack of all trades. (Honestly we need more trades and a skill number cap (75?) to increase specialization.)
Perhaps servers could allow periodic crossover by ingame mechanisms, but only 1 character on each server at a time.
With separate servers, CCP could also possibly allow training on all three characters.

Interesting Ideas. I really like the idea about billing each individual character. I believe that would curb that alt abuse as well.
Someone did make a good point about the trail account. I really think CCP needs to get on this because I consider one using a character IE, a pirate and then using his alt to buy goods in empire space, an exploit. You can't have your cake in eat it but in the world of EVE it seems you can.
I would glady pay an extra $10 or $20 if CCP were to implement this policy. -------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------- I am not paying $15 a month to play a immature a-hole. |

Then they don't use alts anymore but just make trial accounts over and over to get disposable characters.
What CCP really has to do is change the game so that disposable characters can't do so many things better then peoples mains...

Trial account = 14 days.
Can you rob a big corporation within 14 days of joining? Like, get away with Battleship BPO's etc?
I doubt it.
Yes, alts will still exist. But in order to pull off something big with an alt on a trial account you would have to pay real life money for it. Making the trial account a full subscription.

Edited by: Noriath on 27/03/2005 20:43:40 Edited by: Noriath on 27/03/2005 20:41:59 You can scout officers spawns for 14 days and make half a billion ISK with a character that has 3 skillpoints...
You can train frigates and missiles just high enough to get a Kestrel, get a few buddies and destroy a hauler in secure space before concord gets there, then send in your main to collect the loot without any punishment.
You can set up a few scamms on escrow and see if someone takes the bait...
You can bookmark lowsec in a shuttle without a care in the world...
Stealing from a corp... Well, if a corp gives people acess to things that are worthwhile stealing... Ever heard the old saying: Opportunity makes thieves ? Don't give every sucker in your corp access to things that are worthwhile stealing and they won't be stolen! Important rule in all buisiness: employees steal more then customers. It's true you know, so protect your assets.

How about this? Alts and main characters cannot interact. That's right, anything you do with one will have no effect whatsoever on the other.
You can't trade with them. You can't set up escrow for them. They can't even see escrow packages you set up. You can't send them money. You can't even Eve-mail them.
So you make an alt to be a corpthief. You can't get the profits back to your main character without someone to act as an intermediary, i.e. a fence. You send an alt off in a shuttle to set up instawarp BMs in low-sec. Same as above, you can't send the bookmarks back to your main without a middleman to pass them on. Griefers could still cause problems, as could the "gankakaze" alts that exist solely for hit jobs, but if the kills were logged properly, and found to be about the only activity the alt is used for...perhaps a GM could investigate?
RE: alts as family, like the idea in general, but if you're exploring your options, that could get weird from a RP/ realism perspective. Perhaps a "known associates" list to add to Show Info? __________________ Interstellar joy-rider |

What he said.
Of course there are always trial accounts to consider as well. But I say anything that goes in the direction of controling alt abuse and making it harder to exploit is a Good Thing.

Sorry, that wont work at all. People will just put the stuff in Corp vault and take out with other corp char... or give to a friend that gives to their alt.
