Edited by: Tobiaz on 31/03/2005 13:31:57 I was just looking at the new screenshots of the freighters and thought that considering their size stargates would indeed be ridiculous for them. Freighters seem large enough to actually transport them, instead the other way round.
I remember from, I think a devchat, that jumpdrives would not be the 'OMGIWIN' for blockades since using them would be quite costly as well.
So that would mean they would be using fuel. And what other fuel then ice? That would also make these things more corp items then player items since it takes people mining to keep them running.
Anybody else thought about this?
I know this might be a ridiculous post, but I'm still in shock after seeing the new freighters.
It makes me want to see how EVE would look like if they redesigned all crappy stations and old ship models on par with the new models. Especially the new minnie style rocks.

I totally thought thjis, too. I mentioned it in another thread about here. It would make sense since they have to be fueled by something powerful.

At a rough guess I'm gonna go ahead and say jumpdrives are most likely to need something only availiable in empire through either indeed ice mining or through the old and tested agent mission system.
Yup, they are gonna be fun. _______________________________________________

Tbh i hope they simply use cap power, having to waste time mining ice just i can fly my ship would suck.
And tbh, getting around a bloacke shouldnt cost money. It would actually make jump drives usefull.
Still in doubt wether i should train up jump drive skills for me carrier/freighter. ---------------------------

Sounds reasonable enough - would mean that you need some kind of infrastructur at your destination to provide fueling (interesting).

agree
I would rather they take a longish time to activate, with the jumpdrive skill decreasing that time
otherwise people could just press the I win button and never die

Mmmm fuels, plus jump target beacons needing to be Anchored before they can be used as a target, flimsy beacons that show up on scanner.

oh and if you run out of fuel what can you do?
you are too big to use stargates so are stuck in system helpless
another reason why fuel = bad idea

Thats a great idea i like it i hate the idea of ever forcing ppl to mine to pvp it means we have to have every character mixed with pvp and mining skills and i think ppl shud be able to choose to specialise in one field. A deploy beacon would be clever since the defender would have a chance to catch him lets just make it so that you cant put it in a frigate meaning the defender has a chance to kill the guy carrying the beacon. Fuel would just suck and put me off the ship all together soon as u got anything good happening itd be danm im outa fuel.

Edited by: Joshua Foiritain on 31/03/2005 14:01:49 Also with beacons a dedicated alliance will be able to keep their space clean by hunting down beacons in their space. (Or by shooting down the dude thats desploying it)
With ice fuel whatever that wouldnt work, and getting stuck would suck.
Edit: And yeah, they ARE to big to use star gates ---------------------------

Probably level 5 in every skill but Gunnery.
I just hope its not another one of these deals where it takes them half a year to appear in-game, then another half a year before they become affordable.

It wouldn't be a matter of hit the "I win" button.. the jump alingment time will be HUGE.. and the ships capable of utilizing Jdrives will be few and vulnerable. Let's see what the devs throw at us... good time ahead!!

Nope, Jump drives are for moving a ship to another system that's too big for a stargate. Plus, I guess you can't camp a jump drive ;).

Ah, well the devs said they would have jump drives and I'm figuring people won't pay 100million for something they can't take out of the system and which can only unload at stations (and possibly POS). So either they're pointless, or they have Jump Drives. Either way I'm good. Except the gallentean one looks ... fat. Oh well.

Well they are supposed for large corporations I guess, so when you get stuck somewhere without fuel it's bad planning. And you'll just have to wait until some corpmate shows up with an industrial with fuel to get you going again.
I think it's not that bad that these things actual require money to fly around. The ability to circumvent blockades with 100.000m3 cargo is just too overpowered otherwise.
@Josh:
Sure we would all rather see they only use cap. Cap is free afterall. But I'm pretty certain the devs stated it would be actually costly to use these things.
But you won't have to mine in order to keep your freighter going, you can always buy the ice. But ofcourse only if you're actually making money with it.
This way it's a pretty good way to ensure these things will be for the +25 or even +50 corps and the few very good business men. Just like it's almost impossible to run a POS on your own.
And please no flaming how this again favours the larger corps. Yes it does, but after all they ARE larger, if you want to use freighters as well, join a larger corp. With making choices comes limitations.

I hope they use stargates. It'd be cool to fit nanofibers and a MWD on one, then bulldoze thru gates in Yulai.
