Hey guys,
Today something got me wondering.
One of my corp member got pod killed (cool). He lost a few implants and his ship (no problem) but the thing that made me a bit ticked off was his skill point loss.
He had a triple A clone if I remember correctly. Several levels above what his characters skills points are at the moment.
When his clone was re-animated it came out with skill points missing in caldari frigate level 5. I instantly thought oh crap to myself because I know such a skill takes a week or more to train. It turned out that it was only 8 hours training but I know from another case where the person lost refinery efficientcy level 5 all together that it could have been worse.
I have a question why does this happen? Seriously isn't it bad enough that a person loses their ship and implants. But to loose a several skills points in something that you invested large amounts of time due to something random can really feel like a kick in the gut.
Why does this happen and is this kind of thing worth possibily spending the next month which you pay for retraining the skills that you have already trained up?
Anyways.. Just wondering why this happens and if it is really that necessary to wipe hours, days or even weeks of what people have already invested their time in.
Have fun and what do you think? lol. /me buttons up and places the kev helmet on. - EvilSyKOSkitzo

Well when one of my members got pod killed with a full set of implants and with her way to overpriced clone. In the re-animation she lost refining efficency level 5.
Petitioning it just got the reply of it happens sometimes and we can not do anything about it.
That was about a month ago or two and she only got the skill back recently.
So no I do not think from my personal experience that it is a bug. I think its a weird feature of EVE that I just am having problems understanding.

If it was just him that I ever heard this of happening to then I would have laughed called him something along the lines of NOOB! lol but he is not the only one. I have met people that are not my corporate memebers who have had this happen.
I hope we get a few more stories from people who have had this happen to them. I'm curious as to how much skill points it is possible to loose in this random happening.

same thing happened to me, i clone jumped, and lost 6 days off amarr frigate 5 even though i'd just bought a clone that was 2million skillpoints over my required amount like, 10 mins before hand.
'tis annoying, and i don't know why it happened, but it did.
I make a HABIT of keeping my clone updated, as I run the risk of getting podded on a daily basis, but it still seemed to happen.
Nothing you can do about it really, i'd discuss what happened when i reported it to CCP, but i don't want to get this thread locked, as i'm interested as to how many other people have experienced this, and if it is just the "frigate" skills that are concerned.

Nah, you and my mate where the actual lucky ones. You only lost.. well some what respectable amounts of skillpoints. lol, the member that lost refining efficency level 5 was in a hauler trying to stay out of pvping and that skills took ages to get back apparently.
I might get her to post what happened exactly here because its been awhile.

yeah I lost 12 hours off of Large Hybrid skill. It happens, it's *** and lame, petitioning will get you nowhere. Maybe clones only truly update at downtime, so if you lose a pod and buy a new clone and lose another pod it will pretend you didn't have a clone or something.

Thats amazing how CCP says "we can't do anything about it"
FFS you're paying them and skills and training time is the biggest priority/concern amoung the player base. Why isn't this fixed? Are all mid-to-upper SP characters doomed as soon as they reach that point? This is the lamest thing I've heard and i'm surprised NOTHING is being done to correct.
Its equivalent to buying a product with a 3 year warranty and than in 2 years something happens to it that was OUT OF YOUR CONTROL and the corporation tells you, sorry nothing we can do. Call me stupid but thats; 1. illegal, and 2. stupid. Perhaps not illegal here, but #2 applies.

Erm, I don't think its a bug.
Every time you get podded there's a chance you might lose SP regardless of your clone.
Or something.
Sounds fine to me tbh. -

Considering that I am one of those who gets podded on regular basis, I want to get better understanding regarding this issue from the devs.
First of all, we need confirmation whether it's a bug or feature. Second, if it is a feature there should exist a decent explanation of it, either in FAQ or strategy guide. Something like this is too important to keep people in the dark.

if only there was a means to SEARCH for that info without having to read all the site...

Never had to deal with it myself, but I think I might understand the issue from reading your posts.
All victims of this have said they had one thing in common: implants.
Perhaps EVE tracks the SP/time earned extra for having the implants, and revokes an equivalent amount if you lose the implant? "You Griefer!!!" = "You Doodyhead!!!" |

i`m sitting here thinking, SP's don't auto-update, your SP listing is listed from the last time you changed a skill, so if you had a 5 mill clone and 3 mill sp's, then trained a skill that took 2.5m sp's to train, and you got to 2.4m sp's of that skill trained, it's taken you over the threshold for the clone and putting you at risk of loosing a severe amount of sp's.
just my thought.

Don't send the petition stuck character or exlpoit. You will have to send it other and wait a few days. One of my friends had this happened to him and he couldn't fly his Iteron V for a week. He just flew his IV till it got fixed and trained other stuff.

Yeah I have lost skill points to when clonejumping. And it wasnt any skill, oh no, it just had to be a 35 day one :P
It was the Iteron MK5 one. I was so ****ed. But I fought with the support for about 3-4 days and FINALLY got it back, and ending with them apologyzing me

Damn, a few of you have said that you where able to correct this. I hope they actually do correct it these days because when my friend petitioned the skillpoint loss all she got back was "we are sorry but we can not do anything about your loss, please have a nice day".
I wish CCP did actually read these threads because it would be good to actually get a full explaination of what happens when you randomly loose skillpoints.

Yeah you got me there. Losing 8-12 hours training time is quite a setback. I bet thats why no one is going into 0.0, nothing to do with the huge rewards from lvl4 agents and stuff.
Getting podded is extremely hard anyway. CCP has done everything they can to prevent podding, all the way to disabling the ctrl+click targetting for pods. Hell getting into a fight you don't want to in the first place requires special effort, let alone getting podded in a ship with 100% agility and 10 sig radius. -

Edited by: Scorpyn on 01/04/2005 10:25:06 hmm... you never know... I'll make a bug report anyway, maybe it'll get fixed. Since podkilling isn't allowed on the test server, maybe it's just something that has been overlooked.

I think updating it regardless of weather skill finished or not at downtime is probably an acceptible comprimise ?
Dunno when youre podded youre progress could update as well - sounds like a weakness in eve programming - not quite bug but something that isnt failproof.

Same happened to my alt char...
Got poddes in a shuttle and i did not care a lot about it since i have no implants and tought my clone updated.
But then realized that it had lost 10 days on mining barge lvl 5, grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
I tried to figure out if i was wrong about having the right clone. If i had in reality a 5.8 mil skill point one instead of a 6.4 skill point one.
But my alt was left after podding with 5.9 skill points and with mining barge lvl 5 i will have about 6.2 skill points.
So somehow i must have lost them altought i had the correct clone!!
Strange story!!

Something similar happened to a guy in my noob corp. He aggressed at a station by accident, sentry guns toasted his ship but instead of appearing in his egg, he crashed.
When he logged back in he woke up in a cloning station. No skillpoints were lost but he did loose few +3 implants, which are a pretty big investment for someone who mines in a cruiser.
