Im helpful to people that "try" to help themselves.
I dont think the original poster falls into this category. Perhaps he should stick to CS.

when I first read about this game and saw screenshots I was really anxious to play. It ended up taking me two weeks to get the correct video drivers installed. But I stuck with it! And it was well worth the effort.
I had to laugh out loud when the guy says the game is impossible to play... I do not recall ever having a problem with the controls. How does he account for the fact that it is one of the most popular games to date? Are all those people just staring at their ship in the hanger????
My two cents worth. Just me, Bad |

Maybe some useful information to encourage this player to stick with eve and help build up the player base?
PLEASE tell me where I flamed him. I said that:
* The game uses a mouse, not keyboard - helping. * There are free trials available - helping. * You won't get a refund because you don't like a game - fact. * If the game was twitch orientated it would be worse - opinion.
I really do find it amusing though, the amount of people who flame other people for flaming, usually when the original person hasn't flamed at all. I don't see YOUR post offering anything helpful at all. No, but you called me an idiot, so you are flaming. Troll.

I don't know if it's april's joke, or truth, but i'll tell you what.
I tried this game in beta, and didn't last more than an hour for the same very reason as the original poster's leaving.
It's not the game's problem, it's your expectations of it. What i expected was a MMORPG version of Freespace with full keyboard used to control and no need for mouse at all. I find full-keyboard combat extremely hardcore, btw.
But this game is complex in a different way, and many months later, after i recieved a free "for beta testers" trial i came back, and haven't left since.
This game's complexity is everywhere but in it's controls.
p.s.: oh and, if your pc crashes, it's 99.9% your own damn fault. ------------------- :: finite horizon :: killboard ::

EVE is kind of a Darwinian playground where players like this quickly go extinct before the Analytical Mind skill has time to take effect.

It's your graaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaphics caaaaaaaaaaaaaaard. I can almost certainly state that you have an Nvidia card running the latest drivers. I can also almost certainly state your PC running Windows XP is set to auto restart on a BSOD.
To this end I can tell you with absolute certainty that you need to download driver cleaner pro, one of the 55.xx driver builds and go from there. You will notice a LOT less crashes that way.
Also try this...
Go into your prefs.ini in root/path to EVE install/cache. Set the buffersize to half your current amount of RAM. That should clear most things up too.
Take three of those two times a day and come back in two weeks.

The game is a tactical space simulator, not a FPS or TPS space ship shooter.
For future games, perhaps you should investigate the game further before you spend money on it. What I usually do is read through the whole F.A.Q, look at some screenshots, read reviews, and post any leftover questions on the main forum.

And here come the 'oh noes the community is mature enough, because they are not pollite to everyone who come ranting here'. You know what? I think my grandma is very mature and you know what she would do? She would give the original poster good spanking tell him to use google next time and do hes own research. In fact she would do it twice as original poster even asked how he can cancel account which should be quite obvious (atleast so I thought until today).
Soon this thread have filled all the signs that board drama need. Only things that are missing is guys telling how we are all wrong and in fact it's all because fish-people that original poster is having these trouples and another thing that is missing is lock.
Good day. Hope the original poster will find how to cancel his account and common sense.

Guess she was arrogant as well then.. oh well.
DarkSacred :
i also suffered from alot of crash to desktop problems. over 60 in 2-3 weeks. i solved this by REDUCING the directX sound acceleration to basic from FULL acceleration and havent suffered 1 since. Increase the cache as mentioned as well.
try it, it `may` work.
via RUN / type DXDIAG >> find the sound tab and reduce.

IMPORTANT NEWS FLASH
Not everyone is going to like this game. Hell, he's right. The game controls DO suck as far as maneuvering goes. He tried it, didn't like it, and is quitting. All he wanted to know was how to do that.

Atleast i agree, manual control is an area where this game could use an improvement. I would like to get an indication that the game has registered a double click, often i find myself flying the wrong way because i clicked twice in a moment of lag , without noticing it. Would be cool if there was a spherical compas in the right corner of the screen where you could control heading in space.

Oh yeah, because all the idiots are in WoW? I'm not sure if you've realized but WoW is much more complicated than EVE. But then again, you've probably never even touched a WoW game box and try to diss it because it's the cool thing to do right now.

Oh nooo... WoW would be way too complicated for him. I heard that creating and cancelling account there is even harder than its in eve. I think original poster should just stick with Mario Kart.

I read gamesite and fansite forums.
IMHO there's no better way to get authentic info about a game. Read through those forums for an hour or so and you have a general idea of what the game is about, read another hour and you have a decent review... if you filter out the nonsense that is.
To the original poster: You should be able to cancel your sub in the 'my account' section. Once you're there click 'subscription details' and then use the link 'cancel subscribtion'.
If I were you though I'd try to get rid of those crashes and give the game a day or two. I mean... you payed for it so why not give it a try? One or two days won't kill ya and once you get the hang of it it's really a good game.

It's all about attitude. If you post like the OP did, sounding whiney and offensive, you're bound to attract flames. If, however, you are respectful of things, like the game, and show you've attempted a few things to try to help yourself, you're much more likely to get useful, helpful answers.
I know that I get annoyed when people post begging for information in a way that obviously shows they've done nothing to help themselves, but expect everyone to handhold them through it, I get annoyed. And when I'm annoyed, I'm more likely to respond unharmoniously.

I dont get it, since when do you have to google for a free trial on a game? Every other MMO ive played either has the free trial open to every new player on their website or doesnt offer one at all, why is this game different?
My PC specs are as follows, maybe someone can tell me where my problem lies with crashes.
MS WXP SP2 AMD FX53 1024 MB Corsair TwinX Pro memory Direct X 9.0c RADEON X800 XT Platinum Edition (256 MB) Sounds onboard of my ASUS AV8 Delux mb
So I use the controls to preform basic comands such as approach, orbit etc insted of using them to acctually control the ship?? (I was expecting you to have a free ship that you could move with a joystick or using the keyboard, allowing much smoother and easier movement)

Watch some of the videos on this site, and you'll see why controls for movement are basically on a right click menu... the PVP and PVE NPC action in this game can move VERY FAST... it does take some getting used to, but i think it's for the best... eve is a massively rewarding game when you put the time and effort into it. I found it hard at first, but after a couple of weeks you start get used to it.
Either way, i hope you stay and work out a compromise. If you need any help getting to grips with the game mechanics etc, then drop me an eve mail in game and i'll see if i can help.

hmm first off this guy has to be an alt trying to stir up ppl if this guy is a gamer as he says surly he can contemplate the first controsl like station menu's etc and basic use of the HUD. He seems rather too ideotic to be real just to stop anyone esle from flaiming it rele. The free trial option is all over the website or any adverts however i can understand how it may look a little confusing how to quit. If the poster is however for real dont think of eve as a normal space sim like freelancer just throw any preconceptions out of the window and start from scratch its the best way to learn since you dont fly your ship like in most space sim's you tell ure ship which modules to activate and where it should fly.

The controls are not that hard (thanks to the guy who explained their not used to acctually "move" but to preform orders) still a little confusing, nothing like WoW or any of the other MMO's ive played (never played an MMO that is in a full 3D environment when you can freely move up down left right backwards forwards etc etc). Not to sound stupid or anything but how do I get a new ship? (something killed me and now I'm a floating egg)

What you mean you cant play the you are missing out then.Everyone has to get used to the controls when they first come to game so your not the only one my advice is give it another try calm down and do the tutorial dont do what i did and not do tutorial it will teach you for your experience in eve go to help channel talk to other players, ask questions we all was there at one point so you'll find helpful people in and around eve.I no someone whos disabled and they manage to use the controls so if they can play game then so can anyboby else its not that hard.

if you really don't want to pay for something like this, and you can't seem to "cancel" your subscription, you can always call your creditcard company and tell them to block the bills from EVE. This will basicly have the same effect as "canceling" your subscription
