It has been difficult to get windows to promptly close or minimize for many months now, and I am wondering if this is how Eve will always be, or if a change will come with a future patch.
Click, the x button disappears, move cursor off window, it appears, you move mouse to the x and it disappears or works to close the window. Sometimes it can take several tries to close a window. Ctrl+w works fine, but why cant we simply click the x to close a window with any consistency?
If anyone CCP is interested in posting an answer, thank you in advance. |

The mouse moving randomly when you click the close button of a window appears odd. Does this mouse movement also happen on other occasions?
Also, do you play in Full Screen mode or one of the Windowed Modes, and does this happen across all modes? GM Karidor | Senior Game Master |

The button appears and disappears, depending on where the mouse hovers. Quite often the x disappears just before you click, and you have to move the cursor around again to get it to re-appear. This was happening all the time a few patches back, then I thought it seemed ok but it still occurs. Others replied on the old forums with similar descriptions. Someone there said it was an animation of some kind, I just knew it was annoyingly inconsistent and hard to simply close a window.

Eve if this GM didn't seem to understand (he thought the mouse pointer was moving randomly on it's own?? Nooo!Read what the OP said!), this bug seems to have been solved in a recent patch (only after months of frustration on the part of players, of course) and the X to close windows no longer vanishes when I try to click it. This BTW had nothing to do with windowed or fullscreen mode - it happened everywhere. It was a result of the underlying UI framework changes introduced back in Incursion, and hopelessly inadequate testing.

Yes, that's definitely still happening. Not as frequent as it was right after the first Incarna patch, but it's still here, and it's really annoying. Click (or try to click) the x to close a window, the x disappears and the window does not close. If you move the cursor it usually reappears, failing that if you drag the window somewhere else it also reappears and you can try again. I usually actually manage to close a window on the third attempt. |

My apologies, I indeed misread this bit as the mouse cursor moving off on it's own, which has been something that happened in the past when you set Windows to increase text and icons to 150 percent (and which has been fixed since), so I wanted to rule out that this potentially reappeared.
As for the close button disappearing, this would be normal for the mouse cursor leaving the window area, and only then (same for the minimize and pin button in the upper right). I personally have not experienced what you describe myself, so I'm basically in the dark on potential reasons. It could be some third party application catching the click and make the eve client think that the mouse is no longer on the window, so make sure that no other background programs are running. If you are using some software for your mouse (i.e. SetPoint for the Logitech ones), it might be worth checking the settings in there as well.
Having said that, all I can do at this point is to ask everyone who experiences this to bug report it, and let us know what systems and mice they are using. That way we can collect information and eventually find a pattern to this. GM Karidor | Senior Game Master |

I have noticed that closing windows had become much harder recently, and the disappearing x is part of it; part of the problem seems to be that nonactive/unfocused windows do not respond to mouse over. Which isn't a bug so much as a feature that has accidental side effects. That likely is not much of an issue unless you use a highly transparent UI and cannot clearly see where windows end or overlap. |

I've noticed if you CLICK for TOO LONG and move off the window it will not close the window. And it will bug out on repeated attempts on closing the X.
Do a fast click and stay on the x before you release.

FRAPS can be found here :
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GvAKN5JATDA
Pay attention i hold the click down over the x for about 4 seconds before it bugs the interface out and you can't close it anymore. repeated attempts to x in the area will be impossible and simply collapse the window.
FIX :
Move off the X, come back to the x and click fast and release fast over the x without moving the mouse and it will close. NOSTRO AURUM NON EST AURUM VULGI |

Does it on the mac too - so I doubt its a driver issue.
I also doubt its anything to do with external apps, this happened right after the UI was updated.
You go to click on the little x and it disappears, you then have to scroll off the window and back to activate it. |

That seems to be it. With clicking and holding down the mouse button too long I just managed to get that, too. You don't even need to move the mouse for it.
I guess the workaround for now would be "release the button faster after clicking" as already suggested by Bloodpetal in his second post. GM Karidor | Senior Game Master |

not your weird behaviour of holding in the button for a long time (because why would you do that! ) but the thing where it happens to people when they're just trying to close a window CCP Punkturis | EVE UI Developer |

It doesn't happen to me often, but sometimes for some reason I will click and hold over the 'x' if i'm distracted for a moment, or if I catch a piece of information in a window that I noticed just before I went to close it. So I'll click, hold to not actually close the window... then release, and it gets bugged.
Or something similar just as I go to close the window i'll hold the click for longer than I intended.
To answer the intended question (I think) :
The window will bug in CQ or in Space if you hold the click down on the X. It doesn't seem to care where you are, it will bug the window out. NOSTRO AURUM NON EST AURUM VULGI |

This bug was reported by many including myself when it first appeared. On the old forums there was this thread with lots of people reporting the same issue. This still comes up often in the help chat channel. (although now I won't tell people that is a known issue I'll tell them that CCP hasn't heard of it bug report it and make a post on the new forums)

Also in the Incarna 1.1.1 issues thread. Read post #55. This bug has been around now for almost FIVE MONTHS. |

Click the X to close the window before the slow-fade-in useless tooltip text appears. It will make the top right corner controls vanish every time. |

Just checking in with a similar experience. I do not hold the mouse button down, but notice that when I hover the mouse over the in-focus window for more than a second or so, the minimize, pin, and close buttons disappear. To get them to reappear, I need to move the mouse outside the focused window, then back inside it, then click the X before a couple seconds elapse, at which point they disappear again.
Play fullscreen on WinXP SP2 @1980x1200 on nVidia GeForce 8600 GT (Driver 6.14.12.7061, 7 Apr 2011). I have a Logitech mouse but Setpoint is not installed. I have TS3 installed but this happens even when not running (I only mention this because at one point I had noticed the area of the EVE screen where the TS3 overlay appears flickered occasionally, even when TS3 was not loaded). |

I'll add my irritation on this one as well. When doing a lot of window intensive actions is becomes very annoying.
I'm not sure the click and hold thing is entirely the issue. Just another symptom.
I have this problem if I have been clicking around within a window (market for example.) The second my mouse hits the X it just disappears.
My workaround is to drag the window (even just a milimetre) and the X reappears.
I'd love to see this one fixed - I was completely baffled when it first started happening....just after the UI update.

Same Issue. Win7x64, Logitech Mouse, G15 keyboard, SetPoint installed, Fixed-Window mode, Catalyst 11.8
One thing I have noticed which is not mentioned here.
When you bring the mouse cursor up to the corner of the window heading for the controls you will notice you get the tool-tip BEFORE you reach the actual buttons on the corner. If you click then it will close or minimize most of the time. Still usually takes me 2 tries, and yes it is annoying.
So to be clear it looks like the hotspots and the buttons are not over-layed properly.
Hover directly over the control and it disappears and does not function when you click Hover a little below the control and it functions and you get a tooltip. Click and miss and the buttons disappear, requiring you to take mouse off window and bring it back. |

Best thing is to FRAPS/Record your issues you're having.
If you dont have fraps, I can recommend CamStudio - Free
It requires some setup, make sure you get the lossless, and you can also focus on the specific size area you want to record, so you dont have to do a full screen mega size image ::

I am plagued by this, too.
I think it happens when you click the "x" and move the mouse (with button down) just a little (1 pixel seems to do it). This somehow seems to trigger the hide buttons animation and the click on the "x" ultimately does nothing. It is really jarring.
I think windows with lots of stuff in it, like market or Char.-info, are affected more than others. |

I have the same problem on 3 machines, 2 * towers and 1 * laptop all running different GPU's, it often looks to me like the 'hotspot' is too small and I just have to get the mouse pointer in the exact position to click the close X.
