I'm setting in 0.2 space watching my miner fill a secure can. He goes back for the indy when 2 scrops come in , web my raven, lock my tragetting syetems and kills me. All in less then 30 seconds. WOW that was fun. I guess I will stay in > 0.4 space for awhile longer.
I would like to see 0.0 space but if that is what PVP is about, then I will stay where I am. At least I have a chance against the ratz, lol. |

Edited by: Marcus Aurelius on 03/04/2005 14:56:53 1. you must have been close to the warpin point if they could scramble you with 2 scorps. When warping in, warp to a roid thats like 150km away and mine there. It makes sure that anyone not using covert ops will warp in at an unworkable range.
2. You raven died to two scorps in 30 seconds, at least one scorp had ecm, probably both. Your Raven isnt setup to tank long enough to warp out, change it.
3. Miners and guards alike should always be prepared for immediate warpout. That means the miners are aligned in the direction of a safespot but do not move. They should have an mwd that they use to come up to speed fast (hit it once) and warp fast. It will make you warp 5-10 seconds faster if not more in a battleship
As a guard, you can even be up to speed in the right direction, alloowing for immediate warpout whenever you get into trouble as long as you are not scrambled.
Keep your eyes on local, threat in system means be alert, as soon as someone warps to the belt (100km or something away since you were smart this time), your miners get out. Takes 5 seconds, tops. No scorp is going to be able to warp to that same roid you did and scramble a miner in 5-10 seconds of reacton time you need. So, miners safe, assess chances of defeating the two invaders. If in doubt, warp away too. If not, warp to them and engage.

Next time it may come out differnetly.

The raven was watching while the Dominix was mineing. The Dom pilot went back for the indy.
Lucky the Dom left JUST before the scrops showed up.

?????
doms can tank like a mofo while having a load of heavy drones and still fit a bunch of miner 2's or whatever, ravens can well tank while doing good damage while jammed (fofs).
In short if you'd been well equiped the scorps wouldnt have been able to pop you before you did enough damage to make them warp off.
Ontop of that you shouldnt have had to fight if you didnt want to, in a .2 theres not many people on local, check their corps if theres any that look dodgey get to a safespot or get aligned & upto speed towards one.

Unbelievable people still whine about pirates when it's this easy to nullify their ability to actually get anybody, isn't it?

Edited by: Sergeant Spot on 04/04/2005 07:17:39 Marcus gave excellent advice, but I have a couple of things to add to it.
#1: Make sure everyone understand how they are suspose to react to a pvp situation before you even enter low security space.
My suggestion is that you tell the miners you are there to cover them against NPC threats, NOT player pirate threats. Your Raven is more expensive than their mining ships. When I've mined in the past, I've always told the combat cover pilots that they are there to kill NPCs, NOT to lose the most expensive ships we have present against player pirates. Any miner who cannot understand this is a worthless selfish fool.
In the event of a PvP threat, warp out first, warn other folks second. If everyone is typing to warn, they are not warping. Warp, THEN type.
If you have really powerful forces, you might think about fighting pirates, but clear decisions and plans should be made before the mining op even starts.
#2: TEAM SPEAK (TS)
If you have TS, you can shout a warning while your hands are entering warp commands.
TS is a MUST for PvP and damn useful in non-pvp situations.
#3 Bookmarks BMs above and below your mining belt can be useful against NPCs, and against player pirates.
Also, when lining up your ships for warp out, when you've picked the object you are going to warp to, make a BM BETWEEN that object and where you are, and another BM 1000km+ PAST the point where you come out of warp at that object. What this does:
:If you have enough warning to use BMs, you can warp directly to safe spot between where you are and the object you are lined up on. From there you can warp to other safe spots, or insta dock. (if you have time to use BMs, you can also insta dock directly if you are lined up to a base and have instas to it).
:If you don't have time to use BMs, you can warp to the object you are lined up on, and then while in warp, ready your BMs, and then when you come out of warp, warp immediately to the BM 1000Km+ directly in front of you (you will already be lined up and moving, so you enter warp very fast). From there you can warp to other safe spots.
Edit: If you have a hauler going back and forth, it is also good to have a BM 1000km+ PAST the belt, so if you get attacked while the hauler is warping to the belt, the hauler can warp to the BM 1000km+ past the belt as soon as he comes out of warp, with no need to turn around.
NONE of this insure survival, but it should keep loses low, or even to zero. Enemy Covert Ops ships are the biggest threat.

Yeah thats pVp for ya
And to the muppet that believes thats a sure Ganking situation ... 2 Scorps vs Domi + Raven (Just becuase it was fetching a hauler doesn't mean they didn't know it was there)
Seemed pretty reasonable to me. And provided the domi had heavy drones (at least some.. come on put the harvies away ) and raven had FoF they would have probably won.
^hmm well prehaps not... depends how the 2 scorps where set up. but they could have stood a good chance.

unbelievable how those of little mental capacities call a well-informed posted question a 'whine' every damn time they see it. It aint no whine, and i can understand why what happened would have put someone off .4 and below. Read the post Tobiaz, read it and understand it, then before you post, READ IT again. My most recent PvP story.
Doing a mining op in .1 see a ganker pop in on local. Call for all barges to make a hasty exit from the belt while i continue to run the indy back and foth getting the cans because indy's are cheap. Corp mates dock and get into thier fighting ships. One of our BC was at the belt-i warp into it and wouldnt you know, there is the ganker, sorry PvPer.
Without even targeting the BC he immidiatly targeted me in a indy, i guess he was worried I was going to ram him or somthing. I warp out. BC pilot informs me that he never even was targeted.
Probs start flying, He is at planet 2, planet 6, moon 3 planet six. Then we lost him. I come back out in a shuttle to find this guy. Found him at a planet, seeming AFK 170k from planet, so i approch him with shuttle, m8's waiting for me to give signal that I am close enough then they will warp to me. He pods me 60k from him.
I return to station, grab another shuttle, uh oh here comes another corp m8 of his. One of my corp mates pods his dessy.
Ok one more ganker in local, sorry PvPer. I find him at a moon, he warps away from my shuttle to the gate. There he sits hiding by the sentry guns for some time.
Eventually he calls for a 1 on 1. One corp mate agrees, goes to the moon by our POS. Gangs the ganker, sorry PvPer. We all watch as this guy arrives to the moon and our POS systematcly destroys his ship.
Quite fun actually, we ganked the ganker. His raven was loaded with nice tech2 mods that we will use agianst the next ganker, sorry PvPer, that comes along looking for mining barges and indys to pop in half a second.
I used to have a nice sig but it keeps getting removed by somone with no explanation. Typical isnt it. |

Amusing how people complained about those 2 scorpions taking on a raven and dominix saying it wasnt PVP, yet here the other side of the playerbase use a POS in a 1v1, clearly showing their idea of PVP is a much better one ;) [center] http://213.142.66.138/~nervar/myalb.jpg |

next time tank your raven, it should last a fair while against 2 scorps, it's one of the best short term tankers of the game.
even if you fit WCS you can still have a reasonable tank.
oh and always watch local it's a life saver

And people wonder why you cant trust miners/carebears. Few pirates would have pulled a pathetic stunt like this. GJ though, thats why if I'm ever doing a 1v1 I'm the one at a safespot with the other party warping in.

Man it is so annoying how pirates feel that it is ok to PvP on indys and mining barges with a bs or somthing of that sort. But when they get ganked in the same manner its just not fair!

I'd personally put it in the "very lame" category. How can you say breaking a deal to kill someone is the same as ganking someone when you never pretended to be a friend or make any kind of deal to prevent the gankage?

They made a deal for a 1v1 fight and dishonored that deal. Would you ever trust someone who did that? And if you were the pirate, would you ever bother trying to ransom that person? Would you not rather fit a smartbomb even if you usually don't fit a smartbomb, just to get the pod? I know I would.

There is no honor, only do
This is why I don't do 1 vs 1 against people I don't know and trust.
What was the incentive for the hunted ones?
"Hi, I'm here to kill your barges and indies!" "Ah rats, you managed to escape me!" -I'll do 1 vs 1 against you "OK, since you managed to escape me" -Fool, you warped blindly into something "OMG l33t h4x evil people! I was just going to kill you, not you kill me!" -You got the scanner, use it
Sounds all good to me
