It's not a complaint per se, more an observation.
I've just bought myself one of the new viators as my corp is planning an expansion into certain areas that i'll not mention here. I thought the price tag was a bit steep at 75 mill, but hey the isk does no good sat in the account now does it.
When I came to insure it, I found out that the price was a little bit steeper than I'd thought. Who am I kidding; it was a hell of a lot steeper. The most you can get back from insurance is 8 mill. 8 MILL?? As Bart would say; I almost had a cow.
Insurance is based on average npc mineral cost of production. OK so lets make some wild arsed guesses here. Lets say that the minerals cost the producer twice the npc average. That gives us a ballpark guesstimate figure of 16 mill as a production cost of a viator.
Now lets further say that it needs tech 2 gubbins to produce. TBH I have no idea if it does or not. Lets add a further generous figure of 5 mill for a production cost of 21 mill. Personally I think thats on the high side but what the hell. Who needs proof for an accusation anyway
The Viator producer sells his ship for 75 mill. Thats over 300 percent profit using my wild arsed guess of production costs.
Here I was in my innocence thinking that the gate campers and the ebil piwats were the worst griefers in eve and all along it turns out to be the Tech 2 ship builders. After all the pirates only want my ship pod and isk, not my first born as well
Time to stop learning gunnery skills I think and time to start learning research management. I have GOT to get my finger in that pie
Tech 2 ship builder dudes, my hat is off to you all. Thats a profit margin even Microsoft would have a hard time matching.
Now if you don't mind I'm off to pick up my viator. The bathroom had better come with hot and cold running gellante wenches is all i can say.

Let me get this straight;
Tech2 producers are griefers because they sell their products at high prices.
Yeah ok, makes sense. If you're not happy about something call it griefing. -

The people producing the T2 ships aren't necessarily the ones producing the T2 components. The components can be obscenely expensive and really drive T2 ship prices up.
100% profit isn't unusual (or unreasonable) on T2 ship production. If you had a mate giving you a near cost-price deal on those, you'd still be near the 45m mark.
Of course, some ships (like Crows) are so popular that there'd be no point in lowering your prices, even if your component costs lowered. All your stock would still quickly sellout at the prices they're sold at now.

Agreed. It appears that insurance premiums/payouts do not take into account actual costs of T2 components. --------------

Edited by: Neon Genesis on 05/04/2005 20:27:37 I'm disgusted.
We pirates work night and day to make people unhappy and we're being undermined by these unhappiness bpo's being given out by agents
Shameful. __

It's all about supply and demand. As long as people keep buying stuff at these prices they will stay high.
And don't bother getting into research, you have to have a bazillion research points or live in a very cold place to get a T2 bpo.

BDCI has a very large T2 sales department. We build HACs, guns, everything. I've learned something the hard way though and I'll use the Deimos as a prime example:
Depending on component cost, the Deimos ranges from 35 - 45 mil to produce. I can sell them on the open market for 100 million and cannot produce them fast enough. People buy them daily. I tried to go down in the prices once. Someone bought all three ships I put on the market for 85 mil, jacked the price up to 110 and re-sold them within four hours.
And people say that the only PvP in the game involves shooting at people? hardly. -

Don't forget the time needed for skill training just to build T2 ships has an impact on price - not as many peeps making T2 ships due to this, so comparing to non-T2 will make it look expensive :)

Exactly. The skills needed to build the ships, the building / gathering of components... it's hard to put a price on the headaches you get from such things. -

Lets deal with T3 when we get all our T2 first.
WTB T2 small nos for like months now.....
Actualy I like the prices as they are. It actualy means something (somewhat) to lose a T2 ship.
