I did a clean Windows 7 Ultimate 64 install. Upgraded to Windows 8 Pro 64. Downloaded updated nvidia drivers. Updated everything else..
Game still crash after a random time playing.. from 10 seconds to 5 minutes.. This freeze the whole laptop.
Laptop is Asus K50i Nvidia Geforce GT 320M 1GB 8 GB RAM 128 GB SSD Too lazy to open to look at CPU.
But with windows 7 installed, I can run Eve with no problem whatsoever. So must be something with that combination Windows 8, Asus K50i and Eve..
The crash I experienced with the Win 8 beta too.. |

I'm having a similar problem as one of the users on the first page with two computers running intel GPU's. This is not a new problem as it happened in windows 7 too. Whenever you alt+tab or close out of the game, the colors on the desktop go neon colors. The issue now however is that the fix that worked in windows 7 (disabling aero and re-enabling, or running the game in windows basic) is no longer viable.
This is almost certainly an issue with the way Eve/Intel drivers/Intel GPU interact and like I said it is not a new issue but the fix to the issue is now gone because of MS ridding windows 8 of any sort of "windows classic"-ness. The gpu's in question are not new enough to get new drivers for windows 8 but even when they were running the drivers for windows 7 the problem was still there.
I can grab dxdiag/gpu-z/etc dumps if you're interested but, I'm not sure about this one getting fixed since its such an old issue. It's only recently became a problem due to the "easy-fix" being gone.
Googling around has got me nothing other than that restarting it fixes it. If you could end the DWM process that might fix it but I have no idea what thats going to do to windows.
Edit: I'm also consistently crashing when I alt+tab on my Sager laptop with 9800m gpu. Drivers are updated on that one.
Edit 2: Found a work around for the first issue, after killing the dwm process, it fixed the colors for me.
1. Right Click Taskbar->Task Manager 2. Find "Desktop Windows Manager" in the task list (should be in the second half) and right click it->Go To Process 3. End the Process Tree |

Tested with all Guru3D available versions to try to fix my main issue and does absolutely nothing.
CPU/Mem use is about 3% with single client running and unless Eve requires 1GB internet bandwidth, which I strongly doubt, this is not even possibly the explanation to my problem. GC GPU/mem is never stressed continuously but only by spikes going from 25/30% to 100% making my travels nice and simple with or without all settings on top and become a strobe nightmare if there's more than a couple ships on grid, forget even a lvl3 mission, gate camp, fleet or simply cross at the gate more than 2 ships, it's 80's strobe funky time.
However, initial problem about screen getting all black but still showing grid/hud is gone for me. ->Randomly at undock or gate jumping hud shows 30% dmg shields/hull/structure is still present ->cargo or windows not remembering their previous position still happens, randomly without any sort of specific behavior
While this would be less of a problem if I was playing in high sec because there's always some low risk activity, this is absolutely nasty and the best medicine against null sec playing, I'm stuck for weeks now not being able to play and still no solution, workaround or little word from CCP guys kinda like "heya guys we're aware of your shift, be patient we're dealing with"
Sad panda
Edit: rig already posted a couple pages before and Win8 64 pro full updated, latest Nvidia and other hardware drivers on top. |

Under Windows 8 the TeamSpeak 3 Overlay plugin can prevent a second eve client opening on the same machine. For example if I start one client then join TS3 with the Overlay the launcher will fail to open a second client. Close ts3 and it opens fine.
It can be inconsistent. If TS3 is open it can stop any eve instance opening. Other times the overlay will prevent you typing in your password on the log in screen (you have to click on the overlay first).
I'm assuming these are all Windows8/TS3 issues. I've no issues to report with the eve client itself |

There's no apparent reason why it shouldn't, it's another version of win7 able to deal with touch screens or whatever new crap.
Is that enough to screw up with Eve I don't know and actually don't care, fix it !! NAO !! |

Hey,
I'm using Windows 8 x64 and did not reinstalled Eve or launch it in compatibility mode. I just started the launcher.exe and it works fine. No crashes or unusual bugs yet.
My computer: Asus P7P55D Intel Core i5 750 @3,33Ghz 8,00 GB Ram (G.Skill) Nvidia GTX560 TI
Sometimes I run up to 4 clients without problems. (All in Windowed mode and I dont use any Teamspeak Plugins) |

I've been using Windows 8 Pro 64-bit for few couple months now. Just started playing EVE again on December, and EVE is the first game I've had problems with.
My problem is that my client freezes, it happens when I'm undocking, or locking a target, or doing nothing. Running EVE in compatibility mode or as an administrator, doesn't help. I've tried running the client(s) in full-screen and fixed window and windowed. Doesn't matter if I use 1 or 2 clients, still happens eventually.
If my client freezes in space, I can't log in a for a while. My game always crashes to character selection, showing (Entering game as: xxxxx) and freezes there. After 5-60min I usually can log inside again.
According to Windows 8 Event Viewer I get an Error there, with title Application Hang and following text:

I have a very similar PC (hardware wise) to you which is also overclocked (by 20% on memory and CPU) and I've not yet experienced a freeze. Not that it helps you but it indiciates it's not necessarily and endemic Win 8 problem (I have Win 8 64bit pro). Exploration is Random. I get the same thing, my client ends up "not responding"...very scary in some situations

has there been any help for this? (also I don't own windows 7 to roll back to , new comp)

Very scary indeed. As I have flown 2 characters same time, in same fleet, I can see that the other character only leaves the fleet and warps to safety, after I close the client, that says not responding. Tried this today, and my other character stayed logged in for over 5 minutes, after its client crashed, and I then closed it. So clearly, the client somehow communicates with Eve, but the client freezes on my computers side, totally.
Need to try rollback to older AMD drivers and test this again. Windows 8 thinks it's helping by randomly suggesting a compatibility mode that actually worsens the situation, as then the client freezes totally, doesn't even go to not responding state and I need to use Task Manager to close it. I'll fiddle around and report back again... |

I have a somewhat very similar problem as Lady Gwen, at this moment I own Windows 8 Pro, This computer I have started to use only three days ago. After installing Eve Online to this computer, almost everything I do on Eve makes it freeze and crash. Resulting me to end the task or restart the computer. Really ticked me off when it freezed during a fight and I lost my ship :/ Yay technical difficulties.
Any suggestions or help guys? Thanks.
My computer has 12gb of ram and Intel Core i7 3770 at 3.40GHz In general, the Dell XPS 8500. |

I have Radeon..I also run many other games so I doubt it's Radeon, and I THINK it absolutely has to do with W8, because my old computer, which I still have, is windows vista and Eve worked fine on it, perfectly fine. No problems, no crashes. Only this computer I have has begun issues. |

I just had an issue where I crashed 3-4 times in a row, targeting npc's in a lvl 1 mission. This was pretty random considering I had zero crashes in 10 hours of lvl 4's yesterday. It only crashed when targeting. I warped out the zone, and warped back, and on the 5th time it stopped crashing, and hasn't crashed again for the past 30min. Additionally, i was able to target and complete the mission after the 3-4 times. Random.
I would love any suggestions, my specs are in my previous post. thanks |

I think all we can hope for is Eve to support windows 8 in the future...Right now what I discovered that sometimes running as administrator reduces the crashing. Was able to play for a hour or so before I had to alt-tab, came back but crashed(Ah well). I just hope I don't have to go buy W7 Pro and downgrade windows 8...To much a hassle. |

I've had this multiple times already. I'm now playing in windowed mode, and I've seen that, if I don't move the windows around when playing with 2 characters, I haven't had crashes then. If I move the window to another screen, it starts crashing. Also in fullscreen mode it's crashing in similar ways as Lady Gwenn. When targeting something, and just as you would lock, it crashes. Also when undocking, or logging in, or trying to open market or character info or something. |

I was playing in fixed window mode, both when I had crash issues and when i didn't, so don't think that is the issue.
Currently , I am waiting for the DUST 514 update, and going to test for crashes tomorrow. If i still get unexplained crashes, I may go out and just buy Windows 7...but I would really like not to do that. |

Well, it wouldn't just be for EVE. I really dislike some of the Windows 8 features, like the fact that it seems designed for touch screen and I'm definitely not using a touch screen, etc. And I'm not sure, but it seems like some people are saying Windows 7 benchmarks better, and if that's true, that's what I care about, not all this aesthetic stuff that came pre-rolled into my new comp |

If you actually search for information about Win8 64 vs Win7 64 performance tehre are a couple ones on the internet and you'll quickly figure out Win8-64 with the top benchmark tools/overclocking yada ya puts win8 a step good above in performance.
This metro interface sure sucks a little bit until you get used to it, but you can get rid of it and keep the regular bureau without an ounce of a problem.
And imo when you start thinking rolling back your OS because CCP/Eve is not able to adapt it's a little bit hilarious when the MOTD of the game is "Adapt or die" right? I've got no worries they will sort it out at some point, what makes me angry is the fact they accept my money but have no worries if I can't decently play the stuff I pay for. At least when you download the client you should get a huge box telling you "You might not be able to play if you use Windows 8 versions" That would save me 2 accounts sub for a couple months until it's sorted.

Well you can find some serious comments+tips about this on the internet but in what I'm concerned about, this metro stuff ****** me up so bad I just disabled all the active "Metro" features (weather/info etc), then only have to click on bureau to have my usual bureau. (I know there's a way to make it boot directy like that but haven't done it yet)
To do this when you're in your Metro interface just right click on those active features, you'll see some pannel with options show up on the bottom of your screen, you can then desactivate and even supress them.
Once you're on your bureau you can also use conf. pannel and go to security, then disable "Smartscreen" and don't forget to check the box "disable smartscreen messages" This is an integrated security feature of Windows 8 useless when you use an anti virus (imo).
Sorry if this is not much of a help but once you get used to it it's just like another win version but easier and way faster. Running some hardware intensive games and having an awesome gaming experience with top gc settings except with Eve, it's the only game I have messing up that hard.
Take a look at this, you might find it interesting |
