The only problem i have so far is maximizing the game after tabbing out, sometimes it takes 5-6 tries before the game actualy maximizes, it kinda does maximize but all i can see is a tiny box with a part of the game screen and then i need to tab back to windows and redo the process before i get the game to "fully" maximize, this also happens alot more when running 2 clients.
It can be a nvidia driver problem but its the only game that does it :)
Other then that win8 works superb for EVE, running at 340FPS using i7 with a 670 OC, also running monitor at 144hz |

I don't think it's a driver problem (Im using the WHQL qualified latest drivers on a Geforce GTX 690 OC). 340 fps? Wow, I'd better check what my system is pumping out. Then again, anything above 60fps is overkill :) Exploration is Random. Random is Random... or is it?! http://docs.python.org/2/library/random.html |

I'm running around 230+ FPS but still have these freeze things messing, landing on some populated gate/station (Jita) becomes tricky and once you get control back it's too late (null fleet).
Watched MSCONFIG 1st startup tab just noticed this win version has an option for your pross cores, by default this one is 1. Things got a little better once I've check 4, haven't touched memory settings. Now I can warp from gate to gate and 10/15 ships on grid don't make me crash or freeze for 20/30sec anymore.
Try it out and see if changes something for you guys, if don't put it back like it was by default. Hit windows touch+r on your keyboard then type "msconfig", on second tab hit "advanced settings" and check "cores" box, scroll to max number of your pross cores number, confirm and reboot.
Maybe it's not related at all, maybe it's something on CCP server side or whatever crap, but for me this changed some stuff and things got "interesting"

I just upgraded my custom-built PC to Windows 8. I am having a similar problem as others where I get randomly disconnected from EVE. More clients seems to drastically increase the probability of the disconnect. I'm fairly sure it's a problem between EVE and Windows 8; not the NIC drivers. I swapped harddrives and tried the EXACT same hardware on Windows 7 with no issue. I set up a constant ping test to my local wireless access point and determined that the EVE client actually shuts down my connection entirely. I have tried to recreate this disconnect with other applications (downloaded a 2GB file, load test software, etc). My computer did not drop a single packet for two solid days until immediately after running the EVE client. I tried two different NICs (Cisco AE1000 and Belkin N900 DB) but both have the same issue. I use FIOS with the MI424WR-GEN2 wireless access point, but I'm sure that it's not the problem because Windows 7 does not experience this issue. Both Windows 7 and Windows 8 builds have nearly the same software installs (Skype is the only difference).
So I think I have eliminated hardware, drivers, access point, and configuration, but EVE client still temporarily kills my network connection.
Anyone with any ideas? |

While I haven't had any problems with Eve itself after upgrading from Windows 7 to Windows 8 Pro, I can't get the Mumble overlay to work with it anymore. Using latest release (as of this post) of Nvidia drivers, and Mumble 1.2.4 RC1. |

The only thing I can think of, is possibly a software firewall causing the issue. If you're using one (and not the built in firewall) it may need to be updated. |

Damnit, it's back! And there wasn't even a patch (that I'm aware of).
I would unsub until these problems go away (going back to Windows 7 isn't an option), but my sub just ticked over... well, I guess I'll see if I can fix it again.

Only thing I can think of is hardcore. Install wireshark and monitor the raw data, see if you can decipher anything or any problems with that. Exploration is Random. Random is Random... or is it?! http://docs.python.org/2/library/random.html |

Been running Windows 8 on two desktops and one laptop since last August. No problems with main Tranquility client of any of the test clients (Buckingham, Duality, Singularity) since then. Overall they seem to run exactly the same as they did on Windows 7. |

Agreed here - I do experience some bugs, but they don't seem to be related to "Windows 8" - they are the same bugs Windows 7 people are complaining about. Long loads into station if using Captain's Quarters and white screen at times.

I have three comps all running windows 8 Pro (64 bit) two are laptops, one desktop. I don't have any issues running eve with any of them. They're all running nvidia cards (the laptops are running mobile versions of course). All are intel processors with anywhere from 4 to 16 GB of RAM. Sometimes I do get the client locking up, but that happened in 7 and Vista as well. |

Are you using the latest WHQL drivers or beta drivers etc? What actual version of the drivers have you installed. This may help EVE dev support. Exploration is Random. Random is Random... or is it?! http://docs.python.org/2/library/random.html |

My Windows 7 laptop died so I have been forced to use windows 8 on my new one. The biggest issue I am having is randomly not being able to have 2 clients open at once. The first one opens but the 2nd one crashes. This makes my alt all but unusable for now. I hope that you have the windows 8 support soon. |

Also suffering some socket closure on Win 8. Sometimes repeatedly, sometimes just once, most of the time not at all. Can't find a specific trigger, has happened both in space and in hangar.
Another issue seems to be occasional dark or black screens in hangar, but only the hangar view, the windows remain normal. Always resolved by ESC to the er, ESC menu. |

Another issue seems to be occasional dark or black screens in hangar, but only the hangar view, the windows remain normal. Always resolved by ESC to the er, ESC menu.
I also experience random socket issues. |

So I'm having 2 issues with EVE on my Win8 laptop, both of which appear to be mentioned in this thread:
1: Whenever I play EVE fullscreen, when I quit the game my desktop basically looks like a Carebear puked on it while tripping on acid. I can fix it by changing my resolution settings in Control Panel, this causes the monitor to do a soft power cycle, and when the picture comes back it is fine. That's not really a big concern for me, however;
2: If I have Mumble (voice chat) running and am connected to a server, when I try to run the EVE client it crashes to desktop shortly after it executes. I don't even make it to the login screen. From what I saw this is common not only with Mumble but with other voice chat clients as well (TeamSpeak, Ventrilo, et cetera)
So far those are the only two issues I have had with the EVE client specifically. However, I am annoyed as hell at Windows 8 in general, and after discovering the above I figure it's high time I downgraded. Even if Windows 8 has better performance, it's not worth the extra trouble of using the Metro GUI. Besides, since Win8 is still relatively new, most developers haven't been able to effectively patch their applications to work with the new OS.
Just a suggestion to anyone running a Microsoft OS, it may not be a bad idea to always use the oldest OS that is still supported, or the OS that came before the newest one. Generally Microsoft won't cut support for an OS until it's at least outdated by 1 1/2 times (i.e. they cut support for XP after Win7 had been out for a year or so). There are two reasons for this. One, Windows tends to follow an alternating trend of good, crap, good, crap. Windows XP is good. Windows Vista is crap. Windows 7 is good, and Windows 8 is crap, and so on. Two, it takes some time for any application developed on one OS to run smoothly on a newer OS. This is because the various bugs that appear due to compatibility differences need to actually be found and fixed, and this takes time and a lot of sifting through user bug reports.
My point is that anyone who is considering getting Windows 8 should hold off for now, and that anyone attempting to play EVE on a Win8 computer would probably have a lot less hassle if they rolled back to Win7. Win7 is new enough that most applications still support it, but old enough to where there has been plenty of time to find and fix compatibility issues with these. This is true for all applications not just the EVE client.
That said, I probably will have to take a day off of playing so I can get Win7 installed. It's going to take a while, I have to wait for my old laptop to finish being wiped so I can install it on there and use it as a backup/LAN file server for all of my files on this computer. Then I'll need to xfer, wipe, install, and xfer back. It'll probably take most of the night and that's if I decide not to take a break and sleep. |

I have Windows 7 64 bit sitting in my disc drive but, to be honest, downgrading is a HUGE pain in the ass. I can't even get half the drivers I need for Windows 7 for this laptop. Luckily I can play EVE on my Windows 7 desktop at home still. |

Oh yes, you are right. I haven't even started the actual downgrading part. Most of today has been spent pruning my files and folder s of unused or unwanted files, and then transferring the rest to my old laptop via ad hoc ethernet connection so that I'll still have them and can retrieve them later. That took almost 6 hours. Now I'm burning the ISO file for Win7 to a disc, while that's going on I'm making a final patrol of my usual internet hangouts, since I won't be online until after I finish the installation. |

Is there any new information on a fix or patch or something.... This is my third download and re install on a brand new laptop 3 days old. Wish I would have read the forums first before I bought this new win 8 laptop. It's not like you can get a new anything now with out win 8 unless you build it your self..... FFS!!! |
