I was in the same situation as you, but I read the forums in some Depth, to gauge how compatible EVE would be with new operating systems and hardware. It may help if you posted or mailed me in depth details of your system so CCP, the community, or others with knowledge may help people using a technically "unofficial" operating system, and move this thread forrward in a constructive manner. It would also help a ton to get any kind of feed back from ccp. Like hey guys, we reading this thread, and trying our best. tnx.
I been pretty much dead out of water since my new comp. It crashed twice on me during combat. Got 3 accounts that I can't use.

I've been experiencing serious lock-up issues. They are random. When EVE locks, I can't end task the program no matter what and have to reboot. However, MOST of the freezes occur when I alt-tab out of the game.
Same problem except the way i fix it is by signing out of windows. Happens even if you don't alt tab out but not as often.

Have you tried running EVE in Windowed (Maximized) mode? A lot of games don't handle being put into the background, while full screen. |

I had some major graphical lag problems. Basically my EvE client would freeze for minutes on end. All while, my system would be responding fine and task manager would report that the client was not using any resources.
I made a petition about this and sadly it closed before I could respond with what I found. In the end I have mostly fixed it by turning off the windows search indexing service. It would seem that the client was changing tonnes of files, and tonnes of tonnes of files when loading a new grid as most of my freezes were when loading a grid. (When not loading a grid, freezes would occur periodically.)
So somehow the indexing service caused my client to freeze.

@ Some people above
Metro interface IS NOT A PROBLEM, it's only something you can skip to recover you usual preferred start menu and window.
There is no problem at all when using this OS with almost everything else, actually and to be honest, my only big issues were with Eve. Planetside2 full graphics "high" and "physical GPU" = no problem Blacklight Retribution full "high", tessellation, directx11, flares etc = no problem
Now, let's make it clear. Some of these small issues while playing at eve are really annoying, if you guys thing the solution is to downgrade then CCP will never get fixes done so they improve their own stuff enough you don't have to xpcrap your stuff.
I have hard time understanding why at some point you guys absolutely think you should backpedal. I didn't and I will not, my first issues and you can see in this same thread in first pages, are almost completely gone. Haven't tested yet in large fleet fights because I don't have that much time to play these days but I'm almost sure this thing can go on now with low graphic settings.
Just keep reporting your "shift" and be precise, major default here is not win8 and issues you can have with, is the lack of answers from CCP about our concerns. Talk with other guys using win8 and having 0 trouble no matter the fight type and realize these are issues happening randomly, same machine/OS one guy at US another Netherlands one can ply 6 accounts the other can barely play one, so the problem is somewhere else than OS it self. *removed inappropriate ASCII art signature* - CCP Eterne |

I chose to upgrade from XP to Win 8 Pro (32 bit) when it was on offer, cost i think about -ú24. prior to upgrading Eve worked as well as can be expected, but after upgrading, the game tended to crash the whole PC, no real frequency to it, seemed totally random, sometimes run for half hour sometimes 10 mins. currently im back on XP again and its working fine, will probably wait for a service pack to be released for 8 before i try it again. Although more than tempted to get a copy of win 7/64 bit instead.

Hey guys, I wonder if anyone can help me?
I've recently purchased a new laptop with Windows 8 and I'm trying to play EVE, however after installing the game from Steam, I was met with a launcher that closed itself down instantly. I then used the repair tool which took a long which but in the end it gave me an error saying it couldn't patch.
I've tried launching from steam, from the launcher, and the .exe itself and all I get now is an error message... Here's a screenshot
Does anyone know how I can get around this issue? I think I've run out of game time just trying to fix this.
I've searched the net and forums for the above solutions but I'm now out of ideas.
Any help would be much appreciate. |

About to thumb through the thread, but I have an interesting error.
Whenever I change resolution, or really even do anything with graphics loading, the game crashes.
For example, if I get into a ship and try to station spin, crash.
If I try to change the resoultion, crash.
If I try to change the graphics options, crash.
Does this in game or at login.
Repair found no issues. |

I decided to start my subscription of Eve back up. However I am now on Windows 8 Pro 64-bit and I'm having a peculiar graphic issue. It's only the coloration like, it's red and white mainly however the interface is perfect as is the Captain's Quarters. No graphic issues in this mode. Only when the engine switches to the normal In-Station/Space does the colors switch to red/white. I am also running the latest Nvidia drivers on a single GTX 680.

I may have missed a fix but setting it to Windows 7 or any compatability does not fix the issue. Nor does clearing cache. |

I am running Eve in full window mode, more clients are running in usual window mode. From time to time I get the bug that the running Eve task running in full window mode dissapears from the task bar after a while. Apparently Win8 thinks Eve in full window mode is a metro app, which also do not display an entry in the task bar when running. I am still able to get the window into to the foreground by ALT+TABing but the task won't appear on the task bar until I restart the client. No issue with the other clients running in normal window mode on multiple monitors.
Please fix. |

I run Windows 8 with i7 920 6gb RAM and a GTX 590.
With the NVidia driver stay with the WHQL 314.22 drivers, as the 320.xx are still beta. I have no issues with these drivers and run multiple clients, all windowed or full screen and at max settings getting 58-60 fps.
Hope this helps. |

Eve crashes every time I open the escape menu (whether I try to change a setting or not).
Am running Windows 8 with the latest drivers (9.18.13.1422) for GeForce GTX 680.
Other than that, seems to work generally fine....is there any way to manually edit the game settings/options somewhere? |

ok. 2 items, first is the shader issue.
I have to run the game on low shader otherwise it looks like > http://img607.imageshack.us/img607/462/wtfgfx2.jpg this first happened with the 314 drivers, so I updated to the 320's to try and solve it but it didn't.
Second, since the last patch, opening the launchers takes almost a minuet ... once the launcher is open, clients open as normal. its only started since the last patch.

After making sure all graphics updates were installed and all windows updates were installed I haven't had a single issue using eve with windows 8. I came from windows 7. I don't know if there are certain things that don't get updated that might end up causing these problems. I have an ATI Radeon HD 5770. |

After install of all updates in drivers, and Windows updates i have only positive things to say about Windows 8.
i really like the way to maximize the fixed window by dragging it to the Top of screen. Maximizes only to 1 screen (using 3 screens) Love the good support for 3+ screen support... much better then in Windows 7... No need for Eyefinity, native support in Windows 8.
So all in All..very Stable Eve in Windows 8. |

Running Windows 8 64 Bit. Wondering why the Nvidia 320.18 drivers are causing my graphics to be completely FUBARed when in the hangar/undocked, yet displays perfectly when in the CQ environment. Will attempt to downgrade the shaders to medium when the server comes up. In addition, the launcher refuses to start at all unless I manually dig through the file structure and launch the updater located in the cache file. In addition, the launcher does not retain login info.
Update: Setting shader quality to medium did correct the neon colors (not impressed with the medium quality settings though, something needs to be done about this problem asap). Still unable to run the launcher without manually launching the updater in cache. |
