Hi, as you can see im back to eve. Ive been playing WoW ( World of warcraft ), the Online game from "Blizzard Entertainment". And i just felt like talking about it since i now hate blizzard and several times felt like heating up my apoc and raid their studio down to hell.
* first free month of WoW gameplay ( worst month ever )
Now its cold outside just been to the game store and got myself a shiny new box of World of Warcraft. The game everyone was talking about and the game you just had to get, the game that got lots of eve corps to sink in population. Well... to be honest after the firsy month with bugs ( lots ),Maintanace ,Account problems & Billing errors.. I really hated the game, but i kept on playing cus i knew it was kinda new in europe and every new game isnt problem free.
* second month of joy and blade swinging elfs and bleeding orcs ( errors, lack of support and stolen money)
Now the free month of terror is over and you have to pay for the playtime. as i did 1st day, 2nd day, 4th day and the 5th day.. now.. each time you log on the lagg filled game this strange error popup "You have used up your prepaid time, please purchase some more" - note : this happened each day in second month. so i log on account site and reenter my CC (credit card) info and then u can play. After 100 times of tries i cant make the account payment side work.. so i had to use opera and pay thorugh german language wow site, But what i dont know is that it charges me each time. now im billed for 5 months and 5 days of playtime.. Would this **** you off? cus i got furious.. Especially when you think they are serious ppl who you can contact and get it fixed.. well.. first thing i do is to send them a mail with my problem.. days are passing and no reply, so suddenly i got mail.. "This is a warning, do not reply on this mail" so i think : "What the F***" and i send my mail under every problem list. but no replys... so i try visit the forums for info and support ( wich have helped me everytime on eve ) but guess what i cant log on the forums there and need to use a mate to do it. and Blizzard repys me "You have to use our Billing support phone line" wich i try, and each time a annoying lady says : We are currently blahblah aint accepting phone calls... now ive tried calling em 2 times each day in 1 week.. so there i am not able to contact a GM, blizzard billing support, nor mail em and use forums.. so i log on and pay for 1 more month, dress of my char deals out my items and cash to noobs... runs naked through Ogrimmar and spams the whole day in ca 5 hours desperat of getting a warning from a Gm so i can talk out of my problems... Guess what.. after 5 hours of protesting and using bad words adn begging for getting banned ... noone even kicks me...
so.. u may wonder why i even write this in eve online forums or why u even read it =P.. its simple..
Im just happy to be back to this lovley support filled fricking awsome game..
And i love all of you helpful ppl, And i just want to thank all of you hardworking eve online staffs and forum admins for making this game so special and professional. Keep up the good work I also know of several ppl who is coming back to eve after 1st april of **** support in wow..

I was a fan of the old "beat up for levels" business, but now it's kind of boring playing those ways.
I like EVE Online over WOW for time study compared to earning my keep. I don't have time to level from zero to fifty with a twelve hour job in the way.

PS So you know: This would be moved to out of pod experience. It is not general discussion/EVE question.

Soooo....did you learn your lesson then?
The one where you should've just stayed put and not gone with the brainless lemmings just cuz "everyone else is"?
The lesson where you stay here and actually save yourself a bunch of money.....not to mention keeping your clone ready for reactivation at the behest of the helpful denizens of EVE

I too played WoW for some months. It's instantly accessible, has some well balanced classes (overall), great environments, and almost no downtime (gameplay wise, not server wise). The game client is also very stable and performs extremely well.
The game itself has zero longevity for anyone interested in games of any depth, because other than the level grind (through mindless killing or quests) there is nothing to do in WoW. There's no reason for anyone to roleplay, and there's no real outlet for it either. Most of the playerbase isn't interested in doing anything other than level grinding or pvping people 10 levels below you.
I rapidly found that there was not a lot to do in WoW other than grinding or PVP, neither of which was interesting at all after maybe a month of playing.
I go through periods where I don't play EVE all that much, mostly due to life type issues. However I always come back and when I do there's always a ton of things to do. That's the main reason why I've tried a lot of games out there, but always keep coming back here. I'm playing Matrix Online right now, if you thought WoW was bad try MxO. The only reason I still play is to see whether their live events are going to amount to anything worth paying monthly for, otherwise it's a pure grinder game.

Edited by: X''Alor on 11/04/2005 16:11:24 I personally luv it. The more I play it the less I care to return to power Evage. All i log into EVE for now is to change training and everytime I do that all I see is whining.
Finally a game you can just "play," have fun, take part in groups or solo, make friends, PvP at will, people are actually nice and help out and don't ask for any reward for it, AND the biggest point, people don't whine and cry when they get popped on either side.
there are actually a lot of females that play it, unlike the EVE sausage party.
Ya I know it's dumb lvl grind hack n slash but the raids are a blast.
Those raiding parties on both sides are an absolute riot. Most fun I've had in any PvP game.
Even if your only a lvl 10 you can join in and die countless times and get right back into it.
A lvl 10 can cast one spell at the most wrong time for the target and creat all holy hell for him. Even if they are a lvl 60.
the raid battles in towns are fantastic PvP fun.
All i can say is ...... hellscream server. Make a horde char and an alliance char. The horde on helscream do many many big number village raids daily.
They had a raid over the weekend in auberdine that lasted for hours. They came in with like 40 mounted horde + foot soldiers, many lvl 60's on both sides.
I must admit, WoW has stolen me for the time being and doubt I'll end my char(s) there for many monthes to come.
Mostly due to all the forum whining and biatching here in forums about eve has really turned my stomache to EVE in all honesty.
case in point:
I kinda find it funny AND ironic that the EVE forums even got biatching and whining about WoW now.
EVE whining is ruining EVE more so that lvl 4 missions!
Hellscream server: Alliance: Nightelf Hunter, Xalor without the hyphen, sounds like Zalor.

Save yourself some money and try to get into the beta of these new MMORPG. Quickly you will know if its a POS or not. Took me 2 weeks to become bored of WoW but I did it in the beta.
Eve, still going strong.

i'll be playing eve until they turn it off, but i won't play another MMOG until my kid leaves home, gets married and pays for my subscription
edit: but i wouldn't play WoW anyway because it contains Tolkeinesque content that hasn't been properly imagined since, well, Tolkein.

Blizzard has hinted that their next MMOG will be World of Starcraft. If they can just learn from their WoW issues, WoS will be worth a look.
'till then, anyMMOG but EVE is a bad, ugly thing. We're talking Britney Spears after she got married ugly. "You Griefer!!!" = "You Doodyhead!!!" |

Same here (Well, apart from having a master plan of getting my non-existent children to pay subscription fees for me).
*snip OT explanation of why I like EVE so much*
If I wasn't playing EVE, then I would give WoW a shot. However I've never been a really big fan of magic themed things, and the level grinding in the few MMO's I played before discovering EVE soon became too much for me to stand. There is a certain amount of level grinding required to gain ISK in EVE, but grinding for money is completely different to grinding for experience points.

I opened a World of Warcraft account about two months ago... I hate to say, that game does not thrill me. There is just nothing about it that wants to make me keep playing it. It's like Diablo 2 essentially, yea, you can become powerful, but so can everyone else...
When I started playing it I loved it, the death system makes it so you can participate in PvP activities even at a low level. But after a while it just gets boring because you can't achieve anything...
Built a big guild? What for, you can only fight the oposite faction anyways.
Diplomacy? You can't even talk to the people that want to kill you...
Be a criminal? You can't break the law because the engine doesn't allow it.
Be a civilian? Impossible, no character in WoW isn't some kind of killing machine...
It's just an extremly one sided game that lacks depth...
I really enjoyed WoW, I can't even say it's a bad game... It's just that at some point in time I just didn't feel like playing it again because Eve is more interesting while sitting in a station then WoW will ever be on the biggest battlefields. Why? Because as soon as you leave the station in Eve anything can happen, if the battle is over in WoW everything goes back to what it was...

Different games for different moods.
The whole elf/wizard/fantasy thing has been done to death, I'm just sick of it.
There aren't many sci fi games out. I love sci fi, like Doom 3, trapped space marines on an infested station, that's just cool as hell.
AO and SWG doesn't count as Sci Fi to me, its not gritty enough to be Sci Fi. Eve is the only sci fi MMO game out right now.

WoW was okay. I have a high end graphics card and I thought the graphics were A+ for the objective that they were aiming to accomplish. In other words they were trying to be cartoony, not photorealistic.
Gameplay wise, WoW is EQ without the raiding content to be honest. They have only a few raids at this point.
Beyond the raids you have a typical level grind much like you did in EQ.
Eve is a fundamentally different MMORPG and not just because of the genre change.
Progress in Eve is multifaceted in that you have wealth and skill progression to concern yourself with. Wealth accumulation is the only grind to speak of in Eve. Skills, as we all know, march forward irrespective of our playtime.
As far as which game is "better" I think for me Eve is a clear winner in that I can make so many more choices about how and when to engage the "grind" in Eve in comparison to EQ where to really progress you needed a raiding guild and 5 to 6 hours every night of time where you couldn't afk too much. I can pull up and AFK in Eve almost at any time if needed.
If things are slow in the system I'm camping in Eve I can go read a book or play xbox. :) Or if I gank someone and need to let an aggression timer run its course I can again turn to any of the above diversions :) If you are too much into diversions of any type in EQ you'll find yourself booted from the raid and soon from the guild. heh
EQ was like a job a times, actually most of the time. Eve never seems to be like that unless you're a slave to an alliance And, to quote Smokey Bear, "Only YOU" can change that

Yeah, that's essentially the bit that I snipped. EVE is constantly changing in unpredictable ways (player actions + gameplay shattering patches), and I regret not being around from the beginning when frigs were the only ships and NPC's were scary as hell

TBH mate, and im not trying to start a flame war, the only reason people dont complain about dieing in the PvP over there is cuz its no risk PvP.
Lets go fight with all my most tupidly expensive stuff Damn, i died. Oh look all my stuff is still here, lets just pay a few gold to knock out a few dents and lets go PvPing again
TBH, loads of reward and no risk, ya know what that sounds like to me, an arcade game, not a MMORPG, IMHO. --------------------------------------- (\_/) (O.o) (> <) This is Bunny. Copy Bunny into your signature to help him on his way to world domination. |

Not sure this thread merits a WoW vs. EvE title. So you had a horrible billing experience. So what. Kind of a biased opinion as someone like myself, who lives in the States might have a better probability of NOT having any billing issues. Your decision is based on support only. What about the game itself?

Thing about eve, it's certainly not a grinder game.
Never realy been into the fantasy hack and slash games, from what i see and hear about wow, it's that with a level up bolted on top with what people love, aka the warcraft universe.
Eve is depth, in nearly everyway you could want it.
Darths dead right when he says imagine elite in the massively multiplayer scale.
I could have dreamed it 20 years ago, it's here right now.
Kudos to somebody for being different... Wonderfull. ------------------------
