aah... well i cant say WoW is really a game lol... i mean.. why whould you play it? first, if u look away from the bugs, graphics, laggs, lack of support.. and all the technical stuff..
why? first, there is no Honour. You doesnt loose anything when getting killed. Whats the point? why shall u get up in level and stop at lev 60 to go around and kill ppl who dont care, cus they just walk around as a ghost looking for their corpse?.. in the beginning its fun, but afterwards u start noticing that every player thinks hes the best.. no moatter if u kill him like 100 times.. and everyday its always the same. hack monsters to get exp ( only way of getting up in level ) kinda boring in lenght... then u find out that the pvp sux.. cus when you attack a enemy city.. you cant really attack =\ you haev to be atatcked first when you atatck.. wich is strange.. to make the opponent be flagged.. and if u struggle for 2 hours adn atleast gets to kill a dude.. he just laughs and respawns with no losses or anyhting.. just his word against yours that u killed him.. its no sence at all.. i was addicted to wow the first month.. and each day i saw 1 more negative thing.. and each day i missed eve... only 1 thing was good at wow. adn it was the playermade items.. they carried your name if u made them =) wich was kinda cool..
but still eve is the best =P

Kind of a biased opinion as someone like myself, who lives in the States might have a better probability of NOT having any billing issues. Your decision is based on support only. What about the game itself?

heh.. isnt based on billing problems.. was my side of passion for wow.. but i know what u mean m8 sry

The thing that turned me off of WOW was their community. EVE has, by far, the best community in any MMORPG.

Originally by: X'Alor I personally luv it. The more I play it the less I care to return to power Evage. All i log into EVE for now is to change training and everytime I do that all I see is whining.
No whining in wow? Did you ever actually read WoW forums? I mean there is some most hilarious whines in mmorpg history like someone whining about how long it takes to walk to graveyard.
Originally by: X'Alor Finally a game you can just "play," have fun, take part in groups or solo, make friends, PvP at will, people are actually nice and help out and don't ask for any reward for it, AND the biggest point, people don't whine and cry when they get popped on either side.
Are you joking?
Originally by: X'Alor I kinda find it funny AND ironic that the EVE forums even got biatching and whining about WoW now.
Check wow forums and you will find their share like wow vs EQ2 topics. Happens in every mmorpg. Not really anything new. Mostly what fanbois do. This type topics are quite pointless in my opinion. Some like wow and some dont. Personally I gave wow a very good change, didnt enjoy it myself.

My beef with WoW when I played it, was that at around level 40 it just got plain boring. Everyone solo's, and all the quests require groups. No one wants to group because there's no point to it (Unlike in Camelot where everyone wanted to group for bonus XP) so I got to kill troggs.... lots and lots of troggs. I spent 10 hours strieght on a Saturday killing troggs. It was at this point I realized simply how boring killing these troggs were and canceled my subscription.
My brain was melting from killing so many troggs. I get shivers just thinking about it. -----------------------------------

I love Eve, its a great laugh. The most fun I've had since the early days of CS (before all the 12 year olds came along, believe it or not it once had a great community). I wish there were more MMOGs similar to Eve. I just can't play games like WoW, all the beards scare me WoS, that might be fun tho.

I did the same thing with City of Heros, except instead of taking me a few weeks, it took me about 15 minutes. I don't understand why people play games where the only objective is to max out and start a new character.
How is that fun? That's just a 2nd job that you pay to do.

Have lots of friends that play wow but most of them are closing there acounts now .
It¦s a shame that wow is¦nt better then it is really becasue lot of the key basics in the game are great. Both music, graphics and much of the design are much better then eve but well that¦s were it ends which is sad really
The first problem with wow is IMHO that it¦s like a huge MMORPG for solo players. I mean for how long can u be intrested in this kind of pvp? There is no end 2 large pvp battles in wow becasue the guys that u killed first comes back after say 3-4 mins which mean the battle is endless i have seen this happen a couple of times. After all chacs have died a couple of times and the battle has been going for a hour the players becomes bored and split parts and goes back 2 PVE... If u want a MM PVE u can play D2 free :|]
And well evrything is 2 basic in wow, let blizzard rent a coulpe of guys from bioware and i will give wow another shoot.
And if u think it¦s nice not have something 2 lose and play just 4 fun and exitment why not play fps clan instead? BF2 is coming any day now and has Swedish devlopers 2 so it just has 2 be great

Played WoW. Had a great guild. Lvd'ed my Priest to 58 and then died of bordem. Sick of picking flowers and killing gators. Always been a market, missions, builder guy so Eve rocks my boat when I am chilling after a stressful day at work :) Can mine, build, or haul, while balancing my checkbook. Instead of my eyes watering after 4 hrs of grinding. Or 4 others in my group *****ing to be healed. blah go heal yourself I am flying my eagle ftw.

I played with a bunch of people I knew from EvE, mostly from Everlasting Vendetta. It took me about a month to get bored and realize it was just like diablo at the high end, constant grind for loot. I always knew I would come back to EvE, this is my 3rd time now. I just thought it would take longer to get boring. I still have my accounts active on WoW and login occasionally for some good brainless killing without risk, but I'll probably not renew when my current time runs out.

Edited by: Lygos on 11/04/2005 22:09:41 Don't be mistaken. EVE has a grind. EVE definitely has a grind. Luckily, you can choose to skip it and RP a penniless space pilot and not kill npcs, run missions, trade or mine. You just have to be willing to talk to people in order to achieve that.
However, the soul of EVE is a lot different from most other artificial worlds. In those, although community can emerge, all the actual gameplay is channeled around and into the grind.
In EVE, there is always a horizon, a sense of one's limitations, and the temptation of potential just out of reach, or beyond the next patch.. unless those patches are just turret tweaks or something. That horizon can be an artifact community or an organic community, a fiduciary goal, a spiritual one, or a purely political situation. The sensuous pleasures of EVE, which many mistake for the whole game, are just the means to those ends.

True, I mean no illusions, compared to the diverse monsters you will encounter in WoW, the thousands of missions you get throughout your career and the fact that most rewards are acctually worth it, and not just a drop in a bucket of loyalty points and faction standing, Eve missions are a lot more of a grind then WoW gameplay. World of Warcraft clearly doesn't have as much of a grind factor as Eve when you're working your way up. Even manufacturing stuff in World of Warcraft is more interesting in a sense because nobody has to sit in a belt for a day to make anything.
However, once you reach the top you never lose what you have, so your only way to keep getting better is to run the same instance over and over and over untill you get those epic gloves you want, and then keep running something else to get your epic underpants. In Eve on the other hand you can very well lose your ship and all the shiny stuff in it, so it's ok to not always have the best of everything, since it makes your ship more replacable. In order to get more powerful you have to make friends, take over space and really influence the game...

Eve was suppose to not be EvErgrind but IÆm sorry after a year you get tired of the same thing over and over again. The same tactics gank and run, war and gank and run to safespots gets old. 0.o It's not you... no wait it is you. |

Something tells me that comparing EVE with WoW is a classical apple-pear comparison ;)
You know despite the fact they belong into the genre of MMOs they have nearly nothing in common. Someone can play both and still enjoy both. There is no religious obligation to only play one MMO game. I still think WoW is a good, I still think EVE is a good game. I can play strategy games and I can play hack'n'slay games, it's like with the different tastes for music. As long as you have fun, be happy the rest is just a different opinion. ---- A true player does feel no need to remind himself or fellow players that it is just a game. |

I'd agree that EVE got better community and more sense of belonging than something like WoW, which is mostly about mindless leveling and item collecting
Perhaps many people are getting sick of it in a month or two.
But if you think that anyone, Blizzard or another company, have "learned from their mistake" you are dead wrong. WoW has made ****loads of money, probably 10 times more than EVE. Blizzard got way richer. That's the only lesson. Companies care about profits, it doesn't really matter what you think about the game as long as you pay for it.
Other companies could look at EVE and look at WoW, and you can bet your ass they will go with something like WoW because it makes more money.
