Imagine this for a moment, you are a space captain engulfed in an epic battle against an enemy, and suddenly.. POOF! His name drops from local channels, and you wonder why he's offlined his pod. Then a moment or two later, just as you think you've scored a victory, POOF! Again.. only this time, his entire ship is gone!
Now, wouldn't you as a space captain think WTF JUST HAPPENED? You'd think the enemy had some sort of teleportation technology that is far superior to jump drive, no?
Suspension of disbelief is broken. You can't roleplay an entire ship going poof right in the middle of combat as a result of the pilot offlining his pod. You simply can't.
I've had battleships go offline against my lone interceptor, cruiser, battlecruiser, battleship.. you name it, I've had them log out on me, even a shuttle. Not even newbs who paniced, but year old characters who knew exactly what the effects and benefits of doing that were and used it to their advantage.
So people can sit here and talk bullshit about "cowardly gankers" that only want to grief, but its not the gankers who have problems scoring a kill.. gankers will get you down in under a few seconds. This only promotes ganking, and combined with wcs stacking, you're lucky if a fleet of interceptors can catch one of the slowest ships in the game and finish it off before the pilot goes poof. Again, ganking is probably the stupidest and most boring form of combat, but its also one that works as it relies on the target not having enough time to take the many choices of escape available to him.
Its an exploit, nothing more. The only difference between something like this and avoiding death to CONCORD in high sec space is that this isn't even using ingame mechanics. I've seen people warp around and avoid getting ganked by CONCORD, CCP will happily ban you for doing that, but if you avoid certain death against a player its ok. Double standards suck and they know it, but they will never act on it because its not something you can prove because a disconnect looks the same as a forced quit.
My question is, when people FREELY ADMIT they've been doing this to avoid death, and even go as far as to brag about it or tell their alliance mates to use it, why won't GMs take action? Are they so god damn pussified from all those months of ignoring the issue that they can't act on one with undeniable proof?
This is like instajumps, but worse. Instas rely on using game mechanics (bookmarks) which were not designed for that purpose to bypass the default 15km warp in point. This on the other hand doesn't have drastic effects on travel, economy, and territorial control.. it just promotes stupidity, and lameness.
All CCP has to do is keep the standard 2 minute timer for logging out, 10 minutes for ship going poof when scrambled, and automatically switches to 25 minute timer if you start taking damage too.
What this will mean is if you're at a safespot and log out, you'll be fine. If you warp off to a moon and log out before they can find you, you'll be fine. If you get caught at a gate, or celestial object and you dont have enough wcs to escape, you better start fighting or negotiating your way out. _____________________________________ Perpetually driven, your end is our beginning.
