However, the 60 extra cpu is more than I can fit into my cpu budget. And that's despite a full rack of Malkuth siege.
Quoting myself here... that setup was using 2x Heavy nos, and 2x Shield boost amps (both module types are cpu hogs). But come to think of it... if I replace the 2 heavy nos (which I rarely use) with 2 high-tracking medium guns, I should have enough cpu to fit that XL shield booster II, and gain a low slot which is now used for RCU... and have the same cap recharge (at least when shield boosting) as if I used the 2xNos. Can't wait for the XL SB II prices to drop a bit so I can try it |

wtf? Siege launchers use CPU like Amarr weapons use Grid.
Siege Launcher on a Raven CPU - 11.42% .PG - 18.42%
XL SB2 on a Raven CPU - 32.85% .PG - 5.78%
Mega Pulse on an Apocalypse CPU - 10% .PG - 12.82%
Tachyon on an Apocalypse CPU - 12% .PG - 19.23%
Large Armor Repairer2 on an Apocalypse CPU - 11% .PG - 11.79%
Goddamnit.. i'm sick and tired of running numbers for apocs all the time and seeing them come out on top, yet noone uses them because the Raven is the 'ship of the month'. Fact remains that the Apoc is easier to fit for tanking AND weapons yet you guys still complain "omfomgogmmogmo raven can fit both a tank and weapons WHAT THE HELl! EVERYONE BUY A RAVEN APOC SUCKS"
let me remind you that torps aren't effective beyond 30km or so.. err uh, same as the mega pulse? it takes 40 seconds for a torpedo to reach it's target at 30KM. Cruise missles do less DPS then any large gun in the game even in a siege launcher, so don't try to bring those up.

Apples and Oranges.
Apoc weapons: 8 Raven weapon: 6 Note that with regular tech I stuff a they have about equal DoT with 8 turrets vs 6 launchers, if you account for tracking.
Also: armor hardners take up a larger % of the total cpu on a Apoc than shield hardner does on a Raven.
I agree that every battleship is tough to fit. Almost every single one of them has both grid and cpu 'shortage', which is IMO a good thing.
The claim, however, that the Apoc is the only ship without any fitting problems is simply outrageous bullcrap. Anyone claiming so has never tried to fit anything else than a Raven.
I do have a Raven and while it's loaded with named mods due to it being an NPC ship, I still have over 150 cpu left. A friend of mine has an Apoc kitted out for NPC'ing and struggles to fit a 4th cap recharger II in the midslots.
I also have a Megathron, which *requires* named guns or a coproc mods to actually have all its slots filled. And that's using Electron Blasters.
In short: stop whining and find a new fitting for your Raven. Geddon users have to do so now, Gallente pilots have been squeezing every last tenth point of cpu out of their Megathron, so why not Raven pilots? I don't think it's CCP's intention to make tech II a nobrainer (provided you have the money and skills) on every ship. Much like I use a t1 MWD on my taranis simply because a t2 doesn't fit.
Okay, that wasn't short...

Don't forget that you can't compare an xl shield booster vs a large armour repairer straight, you have to do XL SBII + Amp vs 2x LARII . ----- Apologys for any rambling that may have just occurred.

Edited by: Harry Voyager on 18/04/2005 06:55:41 Anyways, back to the original subject, 20 energy per second is 39 extra shields per second, and, with 50% damage reduction, and effective 78 damage per second.
Most tank set ups are limited not by their peak dps soak, but rather by their sustainable dps soak, so even thoug hthe Clarity Ward can pump out as much shield per second as the XL-II, it's reduced effeciency means that it produces less effective sheild.
A Raven using 5x PDU IIs and 1xCap Recharger II, with maxed skills has a power capacity of 6780, with a recharge time of 355.534s, for a peak recharge rate of 45.7 energy per second. As such, that 25% extra effeciency translates directly into a 25% better tank.
Harry Voyager
Addendum: Just for the heck of it, an Apoc with 4x Cap charger IIs, 2x Cap Relays (the armour tank config) and maxed skills, has a capacity of 7500 and a recharge time of 181.6s, for an effective recharge of around 99 cap per second.
Without the battleship skill, that drops to a capacity of 6000, for an effective recharge rate of 79.3 energy per second.
For an armour tanked Tempest, with 1xCap power relay and 5x Cap Charger IIs with max skills, you get a capacity of 5312.5 and a recharge time of 181.6, for an effective recharge rate of 70.2 cap per second.

apoc, t2 megapulses, no dmg mod, 6 guns, no other gunnery skills taken into account: ... mah, crappy dmg in the end. dont bother to calculate that much.
In the end, for pvp purposes i leave 2 highslots on raven empty, as dmg from torps/cruises is good enough.

you whining raven pilots are missing the point: To fit 6 T2 Tachyons on an apoc is equally hard, the point is, if you want a t2 tank AS WELL then you have to trade down some of your weapons! Eg drop 2 seige for cruise or something.

Its possible to fit one of these on a raven, not a tempest though. For just a little bit more ISK I can get a gisti shield booster which is much better and (I think) uses less CPU.

arbalest siege launcher 60mill Tach beam laser II 6 mill
Compare prices if you compare fitting.
be more exact. Compare the new tech 2 siege launchers to the tech 2 weapons and you will see that the numbers get even more interesting.
Comparing megapulse or megabeam damage to torpedo damage is futile. Megapulse damage is instant. Torps take 40 seconds to fly even 30km. If raven is as uber as you claim then why are everyone flying geddons when they PVP to gank and not ravens ? :P

Xlarge SB II: 120 shield/sec Xlarge C5-L: 120 shield/sec
Xlarge SB II: 80 cap/sec Xlarge C5-L: 100 cap/sec
Who cares about these stats. TBH they dont mean a thing, as you dont keep your SB on for the whole time when NPCing, and probably wouldnt use something so valuable in PvP (probably costs as much to replace as 3 BS atm).
The thing you should be looking at is this:
Xlarge SB II: 1.5 shield/cap Xlarge C5-L: 1.2 shield/cap
This is the important thing. You drain less cap to keep up your tank against the enemy. Against something like an arma you will be keeping this on the whole time. But what it means is if you have say 7200 cap, you will be able to boost yourself for 10800 shields instead of 8640 before your cap runs out. Thats whats important. Of course you will need to find 60 CPU from somewhere, so this probably is only gonna be used for agent runners and NPCers with makulths or arbs. Which is a shame tbh but at least you have the option of losing a low slot to get a better tank. But on a raven thats the loss of a PDUII which means losing a Nos. :S

Most interesting discussion. To be thruthfull I have never seen closely how's the life of a raven pilot. But judging from the selling speed of this item at the apparently high prices, I guess it is very popular.
On a note on a poster that stated that the shields are 150m. This is not the case any more since we moved the price to way more friendly levels (90m as of this post). I also saw a couple of people that didn't know that this module even exists. It does, and I have an interesting selling/offers thread here
As far as I've been told, it's the cap that matters on a raven, because that is it's weak point when ratting. Ofc everything changes when we're talking pvp, mainly because of the price of the module.
Finally, on the cpu issue, it was expected. All t2 items have higher fitting requirements and the sb was no exception to the rule. I guess you're expected to use t2 rcu/cpu or expensive named t1 guns.

Actuily every 60 seconds they do the same ammount of sheild hp repaired...
60/5 = 12 12x600 = 7200 60/4 = 15 15x480 = 7200
and its same with amps..
the ONLY driffrence is tech 2 uses more cpu and powergrid, but it uses 1200 less cap a min.

Ok so the general concensus is that XL IIs will be NPC only, seeing as u need expensive named launchers to fit one.
Well if u can afford the named launchers u might as well spend the 400m and get a DG XL booster
this booster makes the XL II have no point really (not to mention the other named ones like Gist)
DG XL 600 shields 400 cap 4s cycle 170 CPU 500 Grid
so we have same shield and cap usage, but its 1 second faster, uses less cpu and less grid
