I've been going over some numbers, and I'm at a loss to tell what makes these any better than an XL CL-5.
The only difference between an XL CL-5 and an XL II, is that an XL II uses 30 more CPU than a XL CL-5.
XL II: Boosts 600/5 seconds: = 120 shields per second
XL CL-5: Boosts 480/4 seconds: = 120 shields per second
XL II: Uses 400/5 seconds: = 80 energy per second
XL CL-5: Uses 400/4 seconds: = 100 energy per second
So basically, you end up using a little less energy than an XL CL-5, but with the longer boost rate it can really hurt you when you're trying to tank large volumes of damage.

a little less? Xlarge II use a lot less cap man, 20cap/s is a huge diference.
Havent checked with PDS II
Bit when the Capacitor Flux Coils II come out, put 2 cap IIs and 5 cap flux II and u can almost run an xlarge c5l, 2 hardeners, and shield boost amp forever (great for npc). you'll have 75cap/s recharger when these babes come out

Think ill hang on to my XL CL-5 to then and save the CPU for tch 2 seige \o/
Proberly is good for NPCing but not realy worthit for PVP cus your either dead, warping out or your enermy is dead befor eyoull run out of cap

Tbh on my raven the 20 cap/s isnt worth the extra CPU it uses.
Not to mention the price and evil skill requirement.

Hello? **20%** less cap. That's LOADS less cap.
Also, why would you think a tech II booster would be better than a C5? So far every tech II item has identical stats as the best named tech I counterpart. Don't see why shield boosters would be different.

It's like that for all T2 items, they're just easier to get hold of than the named T1 ones.

I'm fairly sure once the novelty factor of the XL II drops, its price will be less than a C5-L.

I don't think so. For NPCing/missions the lower cap use can be very useful. And missions are what 90% of all Ravens are used for anyway.

I reckon I'm just trying to do the math to decide if in the long run that an XL II is better than my Dread Guristas Large SB and Dread Guristas Shield Boost Amp.
DGL + DGSBO: 330 shields /3.2 seconds = 103 shields per sec
XL II: 600 shields / 5 seconds = 120 shields per sec
DGL + DGSBO: 160 cap /3.2 sec = 50 energy per second
XL II: 400 cap/5 sec = 80 energy per second
DGL + DGSBO: 3000 cap per minute
XL II: 4800 cap per minute
DGL + DGSBO: 6187 shields per minute
XL II: 7200 shields per minute
Math gives me a headache. I reckon ultimately I'm just trying to figure out the pros and cons of both.

20 cap less might be good etc. But raven, like most non amarr ships, have a CPU problem, so i dont think only 20 cap differance really matters compared to the sacrifices you have to make to fit it on your raven. Unless you have a full rack of Markuth or Arbalest launchers, but those costs from 30 to 60 mill each. a CL-5 costs 13mill in comparison. Where the XLII will prolly have hyper inflated prices the comming month or so.
Then add tech 2 launchers wich is a CPU hog compared to even standard launchers... No thanks on XLII

oh add to my last post that in comparison to the launchers tech II tach beam lasers only costs around 6 mill each. And the ships that use those can run a tech II tank at the same time.
Huge price differance. So i dont think you will see many upgraded shield tanks in PVP compared to armor tanks.

Getting back on topic.
The XL C5-L maybe better as standard, but has anyone done it with adding a shield boost amp... then i think the XL II will win alot more.

I would agree with you if the Scorpion was the only Caldari ship in existence or something.
Ravens are incredibly hard to fit without named items.
6 T2 Siege + Tech2 XL SB will be impossible to fit with out at least a dread/navy CPU, they are very CPU intensive modules.
Unfortunately there is no implant to reduce the CPU of launchers (that one weapons implant should but i hear it doesn't)..

Personally, there is little point to fitting it. 20cap/sec is minimal on a BS

20 cap per second is a good boost. It's more than I get from my 2x Heavy Nosferatus, and they are certainly nice to have when fighting 2 supreme drone parasites for example.
However, the 60 extra cpu is more than I can fit into my cpu budget. And that's despite a full rack of Malkuth siege.

Thats wierd... im using 1x Arba 2x ZW 3x Limos with 3 named hards (just reduction of CPU nothing else special.) 5x PDU2 1x Amp 1x Xl booster 2 1x Heavy Nos 1x Smartbomb and it fits...

Ravens may be *hard* to fit using t2 items, which aren't even all out yet. Megathron is impossible to fit with t2 items and armor tank.
You can't even fit all t1 guns and an Armor tank on an Apoc.
Saying that only 'Amarr ships have no cpu problems' is total and complete, utter crap. Caldari are off best when it comes to cpu. That's not saying they have none, but certainly not as bad as your average Apoc, Thron or Tempest.
