I just watched a quite extensive interview with the cream of CCP. Just wanted to get some scoop on hows/when/what kind etc the new game you are making along with Eve, will be. Interview (Icelandic)
Also wanted to know Samuel L Jackson's character name

Ok, they will probably not make a new game as they still have quite a bit they can do with eve. Its only beginning to get bigger and theres still tons that can be done to improve the game.
I think that CCP probably have plans to make another game once Eve bites the dust, but I doubt it will be any time soon ----------------------------------------------- CANADIAN |

No, in the interview they clearly state they will have a second game running alongside with eve. A game they plan on having more subscribers than Eve Wish the interview was in english

Honestly seeing how this is true, i personnaly find it quite desturbing that we get lines from CCP fanboi's about how they are a small company and ofcourse are trying their best to keep programming the needed changes into eve, but that we shouldn't expect immediate results cuz they only "have two guys" coding. How the hell can they justify allocating personnel to another game development when they can't keep up with their current game?
If this is true ccp, My expectations of what you deliver in this "new world order" will weight heavily on my decision to renew my subscription soon after this happens, and i suspect other veteran players might do the same.

There is no second game. As is clearly said in the interview, CCP will eventually do a another game.
That's quite obvious since we fully intend to stay in the game developer business (and not, say, go into dairy farming or fishing).
I'd say we're at the "hey, wouldn't it be cool to do an ..." stage which is where we were in 1997 with EVE.
We also believe that EVE will be here with us in 5 years, bigger than ever, so of course, a new game would to some extent be available at the same time as a new one. _____________________________ I say hey sky, s'other say I won say, I pray to J I get the same ol' same ol. |

Exciting game where players mine minerals in space all day and sell em online ;)
Interactive game where players press 8 keys to pwn their enemies with lasers
Old style hack-and-slash game, but its in space instead, with space ships and.. oh wait its completely different, nvm
Unlaggy game! w00t, we've never doen that before!

How many planets and moons are there in eve?
Would be cool to have a planet based game operating alongside the space based game.
Imagine yourself as a Caldari child looking up at the night sky, seeing tiny little flashes of light way, way, way up above as a dreadnaught launches volley after volley on a noob alt who just scammed them out of 5 million for a labslot in nonni
You have no idea where nonni is (as its on a different server) but one day you vow that you too will be up amongst the stars.
Would be fun yes? and i'd defo run two accounts then, one planetside and the other where i am now, up in space.

Over-reaction ftw CCP are a games developer. They have stated they intend to continue as a games developer, and hence deveop games. At the moment, they are continuing to deveop eve. At some completely unspecified point in the future, they will probably develop another game.
CCP are a business. As such, they exist to make money. As long as eve is live and turning a profit, they will continue developing it. As such, they will likely support it for as long as the community supports it. It is the community that will signal when the end of eve is nigh, not CCP.

SIGNED!
If CCP mindset and focus turns to another game then Eve is going to suffer. I intended to play Eve for many years to come. This is the first sign of a possible downward spiral.
Signed as well. Already changed both my chars to a monthly based subscription. that's just one step closer to clicking that cancel subscription button.
The spiral has already started. Notice the dwindaling logged in players lately. In general these are the lowest logged in numbers I've seen since start of eve.
Even after patch that was supposed to bring in much content.
What's killing it for me is everyone else seems to know what this game is "supposed to be" and CCP caters to the whiney public over just making their game work.
CCP needs to tell us customers to crap in our hat and they need to make the game the way they want it and not worry about the whiney public so much.
These patches that are introduced to fix or "balance" the game to fit these whiney needs and crys is rediculous and are causing the game to be more bug riden than anything else.
Comes a point where too much customer service is a bad thing. CCP needs to simply make their game the way THEY want it and if we the customers don't like it we'll leave. that hasn't been the case until just recently so i don't understand why cater to them.
Heck we've gotten the most "balance and adjustment" patches since exodus even the the whole exodus thing was to be a content era for eve.
Why, cuz of all the whine attacks over various fun parts of eve that has resulted in nothing but nerfs for anything "fun"
Not trying to say WoW is better than Eve in any way ...... but they introduced a new kill sheet this week and kill list to each and every player and they are going to have uber rewards for those that take part in the PvP realm. Very cool system and they set it up with honorable kills and dishonorable kills, daily, weekly, yearly totals.
Regardless of what WoW is or isn't. their PvP flagging and reward system is pretty neat. I got my first solo PvP honorable kill last night ....... and i gotta be honest. It was really really cool and fun.
And it just might lead me to the darkside here in Eve.
Is there any pirate corps hiring skill pilots, that one Got two chars for a total of about 47 mill SP between the two.
As for alts mine is Keld Ara.

See.
And right after my first solo PvP kill in WoW, wouldn't ya know it a hugh horde raiding part came down to a town where i could get up way high and archer snipe the raiding party and got 5 more honorable kills.
Only after some big lvl 60 guy was like archer scout on the castle did they take it out of town.
As I was plugging him with every arrow i could to slow him down for the ground forces to kick his arse.
So are there any them pirate corps looking for a newb gankster or what.

I agree to an extent. However, CCP by its actions will cause people to leave the game. When CCP begins to focus it's best and most creative people on this new baby of theirs then Eve will suffer. I'm not saying Eve is going to end soon(tm), but that this new game will eat away at Eve like a virus. Saw it too many times in the game industry.

I agree with the sudden lack of players but wasnt it a couple weekends ago that we had a new record.
WoW, Matrix Online have just been released in Europe, so people are probably taking a look and evaluating them. I know im one of them, Ive cancelled 2 out of 3 of my accounts to take a break to try these out but I know I will be back.
April/May is a heavy time for exams in UK so I bet alot of people have taken time off to study for that.
I think it would be a good thing if CCP made a new game, as long as they kept the same number of staff working on EVE. EVE is a great game, and id love to play another game made by them.
If this is the start of a downward spiral, when do we get the E&B-styley-halloween-lootfest week??? |

it was a high mark but not the highest.
I personally wouldn't judge it on the sunday night push.
watch the logged in players every other time except the normal busiest night for eve. numbers are down drastically. As I'm sure active subscriptions are too.
CCP has always told us "hey are numbers are groing" and made that info readily available.
I'm personally curious how many active subscriptions they have at this time. I bet it's under 35k.

I think its becouse EVE is making more money than it needs, to keep running as it is now. That extra is used to start on another game. EVE is the reason they could consider creating a new game, doupt they would in any way take less care of EVE. Just what i think.
And they also said in the interview that they were heading for 100k subscribers for EVE. So i expect improvements, tho im taking a break now... just training ;D

We're heading a bit off-topic, but please be careful when throwing around figures and estimating profit margins. There is a significant amount of overhead incurred in running a MMOG, things like paying off loans from the early development of the game, rental space and utilities for the staff and servers, staff salaries, external contracts for things like support (game and server), bandwidth, and the list goes on.

I still think Oveur would be great as a fisherman. Either a lazy one sitting with a fishing pole at a river, or a whale hunter that would make Capt Ahab seem like a calm and controlled individual.

I'd take your bet (and take your money). We have over 55k active subscriptions and over 8k trial accounts. So, yes the player base is continuing to grow and expand.
That's well and good. Can we get a player : account ratio? I doubt theer are more than 15000 REAL people playing this game. I know someone who runs several accounts solely for the purpose of garnering millions of RP a month.

I know someone who knows someone who runs 8 accounts. But that's about the only who that someone knows knows about that has 8 accounts. However, this other someone who knows someone, not related to the first someone or the second someone, knows someone who has 6 accounts
However, in the end it really doesn't matter, because it's 55.000 paying accounts, and it all goes into EVE. I'd assume based on industry standards that there are about 40.000-45.000 real persons behind those accounts.
Oh, and no, we're not moving our resources from EVE, we are actively hiring people into EVE _____________________________ I say hey sky, s'other say I won say, I pray to J I get the same ol' same ol. |

if devs do make a new game later.. why not make it as expansion of EVE?
Say they want to make FPS - cool, make it happen on planets/stations of EVE.
They wanna make some strategy game? also could happen on planets.

Because then it would not be a new game silly
I think any company can run a second game as long as the first is profitable (like EVE) and the keep thier personnel seperate. Personaly I would love to Beta test anything these guys come up with. With the hind sight of eve from a developement perspective, I bet it will be awsome.

Thanks for the reply ovuer and kieron.
Yes I realize there is a large amount of overhead that why all I suggested was the income part.
It just seems with that sort of monthly income there would be more room for QA and quality control and personel that is incharge of doing just that.
I for one have been here 2 years and would like to see another 2 but the QA really hasn't gotten any better, from a customers point of view.
All the spiffyness aside and content as well, I think we the customers that have been here watching you grow and finally deserve a bit more cattering to the QA section of the game regarding patches and new content.
Don't get me wrong, i think you guys(and gals) have done a great job with what your doing. Unbelievable in all honesty. hats off to all of you there.
My opinion as a long term customer is that it could be better and at this point should be.
You have my word i won't bring it up again.
Thanks again for the replies.

So resources are staying on EVE, cool. About the original posters topic - Oveur you haven't denied that CCP are developing a new game. Spill the beans!

Well, I've really enjoyed Eve so far. I've never spent as much time with a game as I have with Eve. On that basis alone, I'd be interested in seeing what CCP can come up with in the future, and I'd definitely be tempted to get get involved in any beta testing.
Still, there's plenty of scope for Eve to be developed further and it has plenty of quality players to keep feeding in new ideas. Long may it continue.

Originally by: Oveur There is no second game.
I don't think anyone here would want to see you guys dairy farming or fishing. You have done great job with eve, but a lot here wouldn't mind seeing more funding put to eve and make it even better and hear more of that "hey, wouldn't it be cool to do an ...", but add eve to it. (like tell us what cool stuff is coming in Kali).
You guys got some luck too when you consider you have no competition after E&B died and you got most of its player base, so you have best&only mmorpg like eve. You have quite stable player base and market share that keep increasing, so should you put more and more effort to make eve better or try make new mmorpg and possible compete with other mmorpgs like WoW (or what ever type mmorpg it would/could be)? Most mmorpgs don't ever get big enough player base to survive or even get trough beta/drawing board.
Good example is what happened to UO with UO2 and UX:O. UO2 being cancelled because it was too much like UO and UX:O (which supposedly was totally different game) was cancelled because they wanted to focus more or developing UO. All that time they used resources for UO2 and later UX:O for that could have been used to UO and speed up its progress. Now they are losing subscribers (even though they supposedly have some 'secret' project coming soon) as people are losing hope that EA could ever make UO what it used to be.
Just my 0.2 isk
Anyways, I wish you guys good luck with what ever you do.
Edit: Just read that you guys are hiring more ppl to eve. Good to hear

I doubt CCP could do a new game anytime soon.EVE currently needs years of work(At this rate) to become balanced and fix a lot of the current issues.

This means they're not developing a new game:

It ofc also means that they most likely will develop another game in the future.

They are working on Earth and Beyond 2. This is so you can dock at a station and manufacture, sell and buy in person. (JK)
Seems that is what lots a ppl want and I would enjoy having EnB back.
Do that CCP and I would have 4 accountd, 2 for eve and 2 for EnB.

THANK YOU Znaei, you are my saviour....been slamming my head against the keyboard lately...
Because I forgot to watch that show...I was ehhrr...drunk?
But I didn't figure out to check RUV's website for it.
But to all those worried about a another game, if they are at the same stage as they were with EVE in 1997 (concept stage) we won't have anything to worry about the next 2-3 years.
but I really liked the numbers they gave in that show, I never realized how huge this thing is, (on an Icelandic scale ofcourse ) And that they are aiming for a 100k playerbase...
And the cumulative time that all have players logged in was a nice touch, 217.000+ years... (although Hillmar does compare it to a weird example that doesn't add up)
and if nobody noticed, yes I do love statistics....

Oooo, or it could just be a game where you earn points by talking about every feature in the most simplistic and misleading one-line summaries, leading anyone who bothers to read what you've written to the iron-clad conclusion that their time would be better spent pulling out their own teeth with plyers. The end game is acheived when everyone is convinced your continued subscription to the game is an indication of masochistic tendencies.
Just kidding... kinda.
Sorry, couldn't resist, I just don't get how people can keep talking about how boring and pointless every single aspect of the game is and yet stick around (not neccessarily you, this kind of talk, only completely serious, is all over the place). ----------------------------------
