This topic would be soo much better if people named their enemies that made them think extra hard, instead of patting their corpmates on the back.
Two names spring to mind for me that really stood out at as very skilled enemies at the end of the GNW. TWD and Faramir, these two were really from our point of view a notch above anything else RKK, ATUK or the rest of Evol could manage.

I have respect for a lot of pilots in DNA so dont take this as offensive but trying to get 1 v 1 is nigh on impossible with you lot.
Anyways my list not including no-one from my corp, all peops are 1 v 1 special 
1. Zeal dragon - not only gd at killing stuff but a gd leader and gd at getting away.
2. Digiblast - Havent seen him for a while but back in the days of dual mwd raven he was awesome oponent.
3. Waywatcher - The guys gd, damn gd.
4. Nudilz - Only guy to kill me 1 v 1 in my zealot ( had left mwd running and didnt realise so i ran out of cap just as i was nibbling at his structure in diemos )<-- not trying to take congrats away, gd fight and gd kill to you sir.
5. Lifewire - Quick and excelent cordination of his corp saw the demise of me after taking a few of them down.
6. Ifni - Had to put a 6th down sry, guy is gd at not getting caught, comes in does his thing and gets out.
Theres other people, you know who you are that i fly with that would be here but as i said list is not including those.

ok my list is biased to ppl i have/or i am flying with:
btw this aint in any order!
1) TrooperB99 - guy never gets uptight and was one of the best Moa pilots i have ever seen.
2) Stocker - more or less the same mantle as troop but moans if we cant get a fight regular. Awesome pilot and isnt afraid to put his ship in harms way for the greater good.
3)Tholarium - never buckles under pressure excellt fleet commander, crap with assault ships n inties tho 
4) Fangdango - Mr "who wore a scarf" great fleet commander and doesnt take any bull from anyone, good pilot when he plays tho.
5) Wizard - i wasnt gonna mention him due to being getting a big head from all the mentions hes been getting.
The reason i chose these guys is that for most of them i have flown with them for the best part of a year and i have gotten to know their fighting style. I am sure there are other great pilots but thses are the guys i fly with day in day out.
btw 0mega should've been in there but i would've had him at no.6

Theres this fine line between having your **** straight, and beeing full of ****, wich is what Daakkon is all about.

Thol: the cucumber of the fleet, never in my entire eve career have i heard of this guy losing his cool in battle.
Guy from Raptus whose name i can't remember, but lost like 6 ships to us in a day and kept coming back for more. Ballz of solid rock m8. Respect is due.

Your point being? Anyone can win on any givin sunday, specialy if you know what they fit. I've taken some of your guys one 6+ vs 1 in ec back in the day (dual 10mn ab moa vs a cruiser or two+inties and frigs) while still coming out with my ship and i'm not going to suggest you change your list.
Just accept other peoples choices and be done with it.

And of course it doesn't make you a worse fighter. However, I do believe that anyone can be good at PvP since it requires nothing but good thinking. This isn't a RTS or FPS where reflexes and handspeed have a great influence in how good you can be. It's a combination of tactics and doing the right move at the right time. With experience anyone can learn.
Of course there will always be people that suck and always people that ae more clever than the other, but generally being at the right place at the right time with the right setup is worth much, much more than being able to manually orbit and scramble Ravens from 40km in a Crow. Imagine two randomly selected pilots with identical game-skills flying identical ships with an identical setup. We just send them to a moon and have them duke it out. Odds are one of them is a 'better PvP'er' according to whatever definition you craft onto that. I believe the better player will certainly not win 100% of these fuights and is unlikely to even win more than about 60%.
Now with that out of the way, commanding a fleet is actually something you're just good at, or you're not. You either have the charisma and intonation to be one, or you haven't. And if you have, you gotta have good tactics as well.
And to whomever said fleetcommanders were only good in 'stupid' fleet wars, I guess you should go undock from Yulai DED, fight some skirmishes and tell me how unimportant having a good gang leader calling the shots (not only literally) is after that.

I haven't really had anything unexpected happen to me to make me think someone is uber. Sometimes I wonder how I coudl have 2-6 cruise missiles following Zeal Dragon in a vigil and then him getting within range for me to double nos him without the cruise missiles catching up, so if that makes someone a l337 pvper then zeal is number one cause that's the only time I ever really went WTF? in pvp, this was when missiles just followed though, so it wasn't as special as it would be today.
That one Benji dood in Biomass that flew some kind of interceptor made me go WTF once too.

Assassin 2, the original poster wanted an unbiased opinion on top 5 pvpers. That includes fleet commanders, lone wolfs, tacklers, etc etc... Point being, you must base your appreciations on their history as pvpers, not on isolated incidents.
The kind of "I killed you, you killed me, no I killed you" arguments don't belong here.
Tactics employed are of little importance. If you excel at gate camping, and come on top in 90% of the instances, that _still_ makes you a good pvper. Or, if you excel at flying EW ships and win in 90% or 100% of the instances, that still makes you a good pvper. But not the _BEST_ five ingame. And that's the point at hand.

Ooooh, such a long time without EVE and a few ppl still remember me for PvP ability (and not only endless rants and an oversized ego). /me gets all warm and fuzzy.
Well, since it's kinda impossible to know what everyone has been doing on their own, you're kinda restricted to what ppl that have died have been telling and what friends of the killer has been saying. So, basicly, if you match these requirements you can put yourself on my list:
* scanning supremacy. To get a kill you need someone to kill. You need to be able to find the targets posistion in notime, and so exactly that you can warp in to attack and arrive inside scrambling range. Otherwise you won't get enough kills to impress anyone but your mother.
* know your enemy. If an ally ask for a setup for a ship you've never flown, you need to be able to give as good advice as anyone who fly it daily. Cause when you enter a situation you need to know that you'll win unless he's set up 'in that way', and if he is you need to see it and be able to retreat at once.
* divide and conquer. None will ever enter a combat situation if he doesn't think he'll win. So if you want to kill anything that's not harmless you need to be able to score kills by using tactics and movement to divide and conquer even if you're outnumbered 1 to 5 in local. Cause that's when ppl don't understand they're still the hunted no matter how many friends they have nearby.
* 1vs2. To be outnumbered 1vs2 is a great advantage. Cause then you know they're unlikely to run (unless they're familiar with you). Depending on the level of the opponents you may have to use divide and conquer, but often brute force is enough to win a 1vs2. You need enough balls, aggresiveness and skill to pull it off.
* trap detection. Every now and then you'll end up in situations where enemies have set a really clever trap(jumping through a camped gates while drunk is NOT a trap :p). In that situation you need to be able to detect it and get out before it's too late.
* cooperation. Well, if you've passed the above ones and don't have extreme problems with authority you pass this one too.
Passed it? You're on my list! Did not? Back to the PvP academy for you :p
Allright, a few names. Zeal, Ecliptical, Kileak are great former corpmates. Some in the COL crew and IGS ceptor pilots are great. A gazillion of players in Atuk, m0o, evol are good (like TWD, scripor, Bob, Homo etc) I've cooperated a bit with them , fought against some very early, and tested stuff on chaos with them. A bunch of former CA were good enemies (like the wellknown in Shinra, OC). The jokers have a great reputation, but I've never met them and their videos don't impress (although good vids). Tank has an impressive killlist and rep, only fought him on chaos(won both), but a test server is for testing so I guess he deserves a place. The CoC crew (like Ioctl) I've only played with on test servers, but they are good. Stan and Bizarre from their FA days were good. Some of the megathron pilots in the north seems to be very good. Omg the list goes on and on and on.
By the way, ppl should stop nominating themself with alts. If you and your friend have been 2vs1 against me and gone hiding at your safespot until another 2 friends arrive you do NOT deserve a place on the list (no names mentioned).
