It would be wonderful for some of you techy types to guide me toward a particular laptop that could handle playing EVE. It sure would be nice to travel and play EVE once in awhile. I've been on a month long vacation, and am suffering withdrawal.
please, pretty please.

I use an Asua M6800Ne laptop with: 2000 MHz , Mobile Intel Pentium-M 755 (Centrino) 1024 MB DDR RAM ATI Mobility Radeon 9700 (64MB DDR-RAM)
Runs just perfect at 1600x1200 with maximum details.
It can even run Half-life 2 and Doom 3 without any sweat, so I can only recommend it :) ________________________ Drak Triak |

I've been using an HP Pavilion zd7000 for almost a year as my main (only) Windows machine. Connected to 17" monitor and keyboard when at home, but also works fine on the road.
Has a nice wide screen and plentyl of power.
I'd call it a portable, rather than a laptop since it is heavy, but doe the business. I assume there will be newere, faster versions of the same out by now.

Avoid any non ATI/Nvidia laptop graphic accelerator like the plauge.. My beefy 2.6ghz Pentium 4 (desktop class) laptop, with an integrated SIS650 graphics accelerator, can play eve quite fine, if you like looking at white space and graphics glitches galore. Oh and when a drone comes on screen it crashes.
Suffice to say, you need a support graphics card to play eve, literally.. It's not a issue of them being too slow, it's a compatability issue.
My next laptop is going to definantly have a real graphics card in it.

Yes, its very important you stay away from the 'offbrand' video chipsets.
SiS, Intel Integrated 'Extreme' Graphics, the offtype ATI chipset that is basically like the intel and sis chipsets and is very horrendous running games on.
Stay with ATI Mobility Radeon, Nvidia Geforce Go, ftw. I myself use:
eMachines m6805 AMD Athlon 64 Mobile 3000+ 512 mb of ram ATI Mobility Radeon 9600 800$ I bought it refurbished off tigerdirect. Have yet to encounter a problem with this laptop. Only problem ive found which is true for all of this model, is that the hinge area has *****ed, i dont foresee and problems of this but its more cosmetic than actual problem.

Edited by: Kan3r Blaze on 05/05/2005 22:10:41 I've got a laptop already (a Presario 700) and I'm currently looking for a decent graphices card, as oppposed to the S3 Graphics Twister K-Compaq which prevents EVE from loading at all...which is nice.
Have been looking at ATI Radeon 9600 and 9700 as previously mentioned in this post, but does anyone know if a ATI Radeon 7000 will work?
In fact, how the hell do I know if the graphics card will fit in the laptop as opposed to my desktop....
Cheers for any help.

Very few laptops have an upgradable graphics card, infact I'm only aware of the Alienware brand that offers that capability.
The only way to upgrade the GFX card is to replace the laptop

I am glad I stumbled across this thread. I am going out tonight with the missus to buy a laptop. This will be my first one, and it is mostly so I can play EVE. So having that capability is extremely important. I am conteplating the Gateway 7236GX Athlon. It comes with an ATI Radeon 9550 card. I hope this will do the trick. The salesman I spoke to last night said it ran Halflife 2 very well. I do not know how that stacks up to EVE graphics-wise. If anyone has any specific comments about this machine please let me know. I plan to buy it in about 8 hours.

I think the general rule is...if it can run HL2, Doom3 and its ilk okey...then you've got yourself a decent EVE machine :) ---
