Devore Sekk wrote:Oh, one more Q, since the nice CCPs are answering... Will the 'scroll on drag' behaviour be copied to other windows we can drag to? Specifically, bookmarks. If you have a lot of personal bookmarks you're trying to move to a corp folder (or another personal folder), and you can't make both the bookmarks and the target folder visible by resizing the bookmarks window, you have to move your bookmarks to an inventory container first, which takes a long time and you can only do 5 at a time, then move them into the target folder, which also takes a long time. Copy/paste would also work great. Yes! We didn't just implement scrolling inside the Index Tree, but also inside the content areas of all Inventories so when you drag items to the upper or lower edge of the content area, it will scroll there as well. But as you point out Copy/paste can also work great in these cases so hopefully using one of those two options will make this specific use case easier once Retribution hits CCP Arrow-á-á|-á Senior Game Designer-á|-á @CCP_Arrow |

Just a thought with the looting stuff is there a way we could get a "shift click select" option in the inventory tree with a "right click loot all in range" feature.
When I run L4 missions and salvage in a noctis I usually tractor everything in range and let the salvagers run then loot all the containers one by one. When there are 20-30 wrecks on the field that's a lot of clicking even if I don't have to close the windows now. |

These are the Back and Forward buttons to move between the inventories in the order you selected them within the same window. I would greatly appreciate it if you could do this to the info windows as well. Would be nice to be able to navigate between the info windows on various items without having to move the cursor over those tiny things and try to click click them. I was the one that opened the FanFest roundtable bringing up issues about how the colorblind see things. Looking through the blog, I came to the 'limited access' vs. 'no access' icons for hangars. I can barely tell the difference between the yellow and red being used.
I will ask again what I said at that round table: Please use a different symbol. Maybe use an X in the circle for the 'no access'. It isn't like we are trying to see something that is encircled and crossed by the icon, like you would on a road sign to tell you what is prohibited. Relying on color alone to distinguish states is incredibly frustrating to me in the rest of my life (I work support for an equipment manufacturer who unfortunately uses 'amber' and 'red' for the same LED to distinguish states. I have to get a co-worker to look at them to see what they are for me). I really don't need it in a game.
Thank you. How about a yellow triangle and a red octagon? Like yield and stop signs.
Irregessa: For your LED issue, could you get a red filter? You hold it in front the LED. If it gets just a little dimmer, its red. If it gets alot dimmer, its yellow. If you taped in front of the LED so the LED was half covered you could tell by the brightness difference between the covered and uncovered halves what the color is at any time. http://vincentoneve.wordpress.com/ |

I can't tell the difference between the limited and restricted icons. My digital color meter is telling me the limited is 115,101,34 and the restricted is 136,47,34 but I can't tell them apart as it falls too much into the golden/greenish area. Can you make it more yellow (like the wreck icons)? Which type of color blindness is it? We tested this out using both Protanopia and Deuteranopia and it had a visible difference between the two types. Let me know what type of color blindness it is and I'll look into it for you. Hope that helps.
I just took an online test, which said that I was mostly Deuteranopic but also had significant Protanopia, with very little if any Tritanopia. That is part of the problem with testing with one type of colorblindness at a time - it is a result of multiple copies of several genes, and the human population represents a whole spectrum of colorblindness. How to program for that?
USE SHAPES IN ADDITION TO COLORS
It is bad enough that in the overview/local window the same symbol is used to represent someone who is in my corp, someone who is in my alliance and someone who has declared war on me and can freely kill me in high sec. Yes, I know I can change the colors of the icons, but why are these all using the same icon? |

Those sound like great fixes. Personally I'd give them all up to stop the client switching focus to the target inventory container if I made the 'mistake' of hovering the mouse there for a couple of seconds while drag/dropping inventory. It may be just me but I really hate that

Any chance of enabling/disabling the auto open option when dragging items to a container in the tree view or setting a longer duration? Or what about once you wait the 5 second time every container you mouse over opens instantly after the first? I find that most of the time when this feature happens it was unintentional, and the only options are to drag back the items to their original container, drag them off the screen because the original container is not displayed, or wait though 45 seconds of checking each additional container to find the one I was looking for. I could deal with it if I didn't need to wait an additional 5 seconds per container after the first one.
So yeah, enable/disable, or set wait time, or after the first 5 seconds any additional moused over containers display the contents without a 5 second wait. |

Looks great. A couple of suggestions:
Add the Ctrl-C shortcut. It shouldn't actually copy of course but a lot of people use it by habit, add it as an alternate to Ctrl-X.
When singling out a tree, can you force multiple trees into one window? IE: in a carrier can I have one window with my cargo and fuel, one window with my CHA+SMA and have any POS modules or wrecks open in a new window?
One other thing I've suggested in the past: when viewing the contents of a POS module, have a button to online/offline the structure, similar to the loot all button on wrecks. This would really smooth out the workflow for a lot of POS related stuff like silos. |

This is no longer the case in Retribution. Hovering tabs while dragging items does not change the selected inventory, it does however allow you to expand collapsed tabs so that you can drag items into a sub-category and you will be able to darg to the lower or top edges to scroll the Index tree while dragging the items CCP Arrow-á-á|-á Senior Game Designer-á|-á @CCP_Arrow |

Un-dock and you get 2 windows open showing your ships cargo? This will result in you only having one window open, Ship cargo (3) since that goes with you when you undock. When you dock again in any station, the item hangar (2) will appear again as you left it and when you dock again in the same station with the office you left the Corp hangar (1) open in, that will welcome you exactly as you left it.
- All windows that show something in your active ship will persist between undock/dock.
- Item hangar and Ship hangar will persist in all stations globally, how you left them once you dock again.
- Corporate hangars will persist how you left them when you dock again in each office individually.

uuuuhhh, thank you?! (I can't believe I am hearing myself say that, twice now for this upcoming release.)
Can it be true? I can drag beyond the borders of the displayed Inventory Index Tree, and it will scroll automagically? Happy, Happy, Joy, Joy!
I am not quite clear whether Persistence is now for *each* station individually or the same for *all* stations globally (i.e. "One Size to rule them all, One Size to find them, One Size to bring them all and in the darkness bind them")? *mumbles incantations to all good and true for the former, knowing in his heart it is the latter* |

And reading about the amazing client performance you get in Retribution, any chance at all that you could apply that change to the mail client as well - so that one actually can read (and find) mails older than a month?
Keep up the good work!
/c
One issue there is that they've lowered the total number of messages that you can have to 1500 (down from 3000, at least we think that's the old limit).
So, if you have a lot of messages in your Trash folder. Empty it and then use the Reset Settings (in the Escape menu) and clear your mail cache (and possibly relog). Then your older messages will show back up again.
The limit really sucks for those of us who subscribe to large volume mailing lists. Or who are in a busy alliance and need to keep 1500+ messages at our fingertips. |

+1 for returning Alt-C to its old purpose of opening up the Ship's cargo.
On my current setup, I have Alt-G set to open the hangar floor, Alt-C for the cargo (like $DIETY intended), and Alt-N for the ship hangar.
Not sure what other keystrokes are available, but Alt-I is a common one for "inventory" in other games. |

Excellent, I am glad you guys finally found the time to address these very serious, critical and extremely annoying issues. I commend you for not abandoning the project after the hot fixes applied during summer patches. I go through moments with the UI of hating it at times and loving it other times. Hopefully after Retribution it will be all (or mostly) love.
Couple of things that I didn't see in the blog that I wish were addressed: * I am unable to get rid of the habit of double clicking on ships to open their cargo. It is counter-intuitive that it activates them instead of opening cargo like it does everywhere else. * I may be wrong on this, but wasn't there an option to insure ships through a right click menu? Why has this gone away? It is extremely difficult to find the one specific ship you want to insure through insurance window when you have hundreds of them between corp and ship hangars. * What if we have several windows open in the station, like three corp hangar views, 2 item hangars views, etc. Will all of them persist or only 1 corp hangar, 1 item, etc. and the rest are lost? What about opening specific containers? If I want station containers to always open in a certain location with certain parameters, will they be saved again, or will they inherit the settings of the parents group (corp, item, ship)
To CCP Arrow and everyone on Team Game of Drones, good job and thank you. If all these changes go through smoothly I'll have to finally admit that I like the new Inventory! |

CCP Arrow,
Could you please improve the UI on the "survey scanner", that one used to know how much units of ore there are still inside the asteroid? Add some more information there, like the amount in volume! That would be really useful and would help us allot, especially those who are not afk mining.
Also there could be more info, like avarage isk value for the stack, remaining time to deplete with all strip miners on the asteroid , but I still be uber hapy if you put just the ore volume for the retribution.

Well done on reducing the lag in inventory-across-multiple-clients. But not a good job. Living in a POS has been an unending low-grade migraine since the change to inventory. 30+ seconds to swap a ship, and over a minute to load a hauler with cargo cans to expand the carry-load. Each and every time.
This 'user testing' you've conducted should have been done before unleashing this on tranquility. Hopefully you will continue to use it for any major changes to the basics of how we play the game, and listen to those testers, as you've apparently done here, incorporating their feedback. In fact, EVERY DESIGN CHANGE YOU MAKE ought to have some sort of direct feedback line to the devs in charge.
I'm glad the inventory is getting improved, but I'm pissed about the wait time.
Do better. |
