Darcy McDonnald	Posted - 2005.04.24 18:10:00 - [1] Hello I was thinking, wouldn¦t it be great if CCP would make another server on eve. Every thing would start from the beginning, every one would be equal, no one would get money from friends to get ships or skills, every one would have to start from the start, like the old days I personally think It would be a great idea cous when I started I didn't know s*** about eve and now when I have complete understanding of it, it would be interesting to try it again. I know CCP would be asking them selfs: "What bennifits it for us?" well, it would be possible, if you get the word oout somehow, that old players, that have left the game qous they didn¦t have anything to do, there is a possibillity that they would come back and play again. You can still keep the old server, just make a new one :) plz make suggestions about this case, bad or good :) regards, Darcy --------- -slensk

Use the current version, or course, to retain all the lessons learned and progress made in the game's design and development, but just have a whole new world filled with, well, with Achura Monks who are griefing the crap out of the new server while their mains play on TQ. I need a time machine to go back and play in the summer of 2003. No cruisers, even. Awesome. Civis Ascendant Sum

It would be interesting to be sure to start with a clean server, but it's been one of CCPs dreams and one of their big selling points, that it is in fact one game universe. I started late, wish I had started in beta, but I didn't, and I'll live with it. Newbies have a purpose in eve, and it's not just to get shot. Look around, find an alliance to take you in. Skillpoints aren't paramount to a good player, it's actual skill. Eve wouldn't be eve anymore if they started a new server. I don't really consider the china server to be another eve, since the people there can't connect to this one, due to their crazy government. It's run in china, so it's essentially another game. But I'll use it as an example: They've started setting up POSes and even just recently the first outpost. This is a relatively INCREDIBLE feat for how long it has been running. TQ is stable enough now BECAUSE there were no POSes or outposts at the beginning. There's no such thing as a dread on the china server, because no one has the skills for it, so basically POSes are invincible until there's enough dreads to take one down. The current version of eve won't (and proven dosn't) work very well with a fresh server. So sorry, but we will probably never see any other servers on the drop down list other than TQ and the test server.

Old server becomes sad dull place with all same wars against same people, where everyone is veteran, noone aspires anything, nothing new happens and player number drops forever to the point when only people left are few sad maniacs who don't want to leave their faction fitted command ship collections. New server gets filled with new enthusiastic players. Those successfull are successfull. After a year, those not successfull band with new players and start asking CCP for third server because they have no chance to play on second server. After some time, there is a dozen servers and everyone who wants to join Eve, waits for a new one to do that, to have equal chances. Space is mostly empty. "I am president of an alliance that controlls 4 regions, wins all wars and is filthy rich" or "I am main T2 producer in caldari space" is nothing really impressive anymore, because its simply 50-person alliance on server 16 that controlls 4 empty regions because noone else wants them. Any group who will not succeed in controlling 4 regions or becoming industrial giant, will just join next server. If no new server will be created but the second one, You get nothing and loose something. Old server dies with time and new server grows to same situation with only diffrence in lack of full satisfaction of being "biggest in Eve" in something and players more whining about need for third server.

I'm only playing for 3 1/2 month now and I like it just the way it is and see forward to next summer, when I will be 1 year old When all will start from ZERO, then the old players would still have an advantage, because they allready know about gamemechanics etc. Also it would be a big Chaos without the structures that are working so far @ TQ. And come on. It's just like in RL. You're everywhere the n00b for the first month, school, university, job etc. .

It becomes a problem right around the tenth month of noobism. But most of the arguments against a shard are good ones. It just wouldn't work in EvE. The new server would draw all the new players, and TQ would gradually settle into antiquity, with crotchety pilots in dusty alliances with old, musty officer mods fighting tired wars and pining for the good old days when there were newbies around to lend life to the server. I think that'll happen eventually, when the already unbridgable gap between elites and rookies gets so broad that nobody can even play the game without either buying a character or playing "Single Player EvE" in an NPC corp, running missions and not interacting meaningfully with other players. The whole point of EVE would be destroyed by this little thing you ask for called a "New Server" and where any time. The whole point of EVE is for everyone to interact in ONE entire universe. The market is controled by players mostly, and so is 0.0. Everyone complaining about being to low of skill lvl is crying because of gate camps and getting owned or not being able to go into 0.0. Guess what, we all started out low and we built up to beable to handle the dangers of space. This game is real time based. If you, your self, in real life, could be cloned everytime you die, would you want to go live in a virtual world so you could start new? Or train your mind and body to beable to fly the better ships and react better with your weapons? It's sad to see the "new" players that are joining this game because friends said it was cool, and then wanting to change everything about it. There are two reasons this game is so good but not well known... 1.) It is a very complicated game, think Mechwarrior for fittings and multiply that by 100, and then add in everything that would make it into as real as it can get. Thats this, it weeds out the people that play hack and slash games cause they arent as smart. THIS IS A HARD GAME TO PLAY! But yet so easy. 2.) Largest populated server ever created? Hrmmm lets see... WoW - avg. is around 6000 ppl per server I thinks, but over 3m subscribers to the game. DDO - prob the same with less subscribers. EVE - 130,000 on one server with 30,000 on at once. Hrmm... a feat? I would say one worth a Guiness and a paragraph in the Guiness Book of World Records. EVE has made a name for itself being the largest gaming Universe in the history of MMORPG - and you wanna take that away. SHAME ON YOU! My two bits. And yes this is my main character, I have 2 more and one is older. :)
