While Seleene is going to slap me for not saying him (even though he is an awesome ceo aswell)
Id have to say cyvok... he spends absolutely hours doing nothing but admin work each work to keep CLS members up to date with info. i mean would you guys want to spend every sunday 10-12 hours writing up a ceo blog for your members.
He is always available for convo's from members, has god knows how many other convo's from alliance stuff.
And never loses temper with the corp, generally top ceo.
At same time id like to give seleene props aswell. His handling of public affairs on forums etc is top notch, Mercs get quite alot of forum posts that are anti merc profession yet seleene always posts in a polite and objective manner.

A top guy and I can never understand how he has not burned out. His commitment to his corporation and the admiration he recieves from his pilots is second to none. There sheer size on all fronts of CLS is a testiment to his wisdom and great leadership.

I may not agree 100% with him on everything, but CYVOK will always get my vote on this. I don't think there is another CEO in the game (AFAIK anyway) that spends the time this man does keeping his members informed and dealing with issues. He is open and honest to an extent that is just amazing. CLS is 2.5x the size of my corp and the MC IGA and I work my ass off. I don't see how the hell he does it to be honest.
P.S. - I hate alts. What the hell not use a main for this topic?? -

CYVOK, end of story!
The amount of work he puts in to CLS members in game and out of game is phenomenal. I doubt I could keep 20 players happy for longer than a month without getting fed up of them and yet he does it for 400+

Yay - a celebration of CEOs \0/
People who have not been one do not realise how much hassle and work it actually is. I regularly log in and spend the first two hours of my evening game time just dealing with corp issues and general diplomacy.
In PIE we tend to rotate them as you get burned out after a few months (even with a superb team of Directors). I have been CEO twice already!
Re. the best CEO I don't really know Cyvok so can't comment - though I only hear good things - and with Seleene (another CEO who would be right at the top of my list) vouching for him he must be good.
I would also highlight:
Trigger - MASS Sir Molle - Evolution
Both long standing and highly influential people in EVE who have built their corps into effective and organised machines.

I gotta nominate our very own CEO, Qore. SWC went through some rough things a year ago, Qore & co managed to save the corp from 2-5 guys logging in occasionally to what we have today.
Outside of SWC I'd say Trigger of MASS... how he managed to stay in power of SA all that time and never loose faith, even when CA were all over us.
Allways move fast, you never know who's catching up!

I think this thread should actually be,
What makes a good CEO? instead or Who is the best CEO?
That way people will talk about qualities and probably not just mention their own corps CEO.

Even though he made some capital political mistakes, best CEO is still CYVOK, just look at the success and size of Celestial Horizon. One of the few corps in Xetic actually worthy of being in a 0.0 alliance.
I'd say Script is a very good CEO as well: succesfully delegating all administrative/political/financial tasks to his flunkies leaving him more time to PvP and surf for nasty links to put on TS.
Yet, ATUK continues to grow and there are plenty of enemies to fight, so he must be doing something right
Originally by: Th3 Riddler Whoever runs ATUK, they started out as a production corp and have raised an empire of smaktalkers and forum *****s
ATUK never was a production corp. We are one of the largest full PvP corps in the game though. I'm guessing that just makes some people nervous
Edit: ok maybe for some time then, but it's something we're not proud of

Edited by: Estios on 28/04/2005 14:19:06 ^^ errr not strictly true dude.
Dont like to correct corp members on a public forum or respond to some lame alt who wishes he was as good as us but Arcane Tech has tried to maintain more aspects in EVE that just PVP. I'll freely admit it, because we are better than most at ALL aspects of EVE
Script is a legend though but seeing as Ive only been in like 3 corps how on earth could I vote for anyone else. My first long term CEO, Sarkone was pretty awesome too. At that time Oracle Corp was one of the best known Corps in game and he also did a load for the Original CA.
I dont really get the thread purpose though because you can fight against all the other players thus can form opinions of PVP'ers or Corps but unless you are a serial corp hopper like JC or someone how the hell are you gonna vote for anyone other than your CEO ?
From my times in allied groups Id also say Xirtam and Molle are pretty special too.
So HMV consider Andy Williams and Dean Martin to be "easy listening" do they? Tell that to my mate Dave, he's been deaf for 20 years.

ATUK is not a full PVP corp. You guys mine and NPC hunt all the time. There is nothing wrong with that, its just you are suggesting everyone in ATUK pvps constantly. To do this you would have to make enough money from loot to cover your losses. I know you worship me but there is no need to re-iterate what Ive just said.
Why do you BE tards have to de-rail EVERY SINGLE thread with completely offtopic remarks purely due to your infatuation with your superiors ? This is a thread about CEO's k
Its not really Rocket surgery is it, ATUK is a huge corp. We have players who do NOTHING except PVP. We have players who do other things in EVE. We are a big corp making big waves. As for making our losses back, you honestly have no idea where our isk comes from or how much we make
Apologies to the poster. My point about this being filled with own CEO votes still stands though

I think a full PvP-er is the person who's game totally revolves around the challenge of combat. If he occasionally has to support this by doing carebear stuff that doesn't make him less of a PvP-er. Going after challenging combats decreases the chance of coming out of it richer.
On the other hand for pirates the challenge is not the PvP, but being able to cover all their expenses with crime/PvP while never having to touch a mining laser or extensive NPC-ing. Therefore they go after softer targets and rather run an live then fight and die.
Lot of flames here because both sides fail to recognize/respect the fact that the 'other' type of PvP-er has different goals and therefore plays this game in a way the other side may find cowardly or arrogant.
The first category has troubles with becoming killmail collecting gankers (especially with these stupid killboards) if they lack a bigger picture like defending an alliance, the second category with turning into the first one out of boredom and lack of goals and eventually turning into killmail collectors as well.
Most people in corps like ATUK are best compared to hunters ever trying to hunt and kill bigger preys to hang their heads on the trophywall.

Angelhunter was a good CEO in Damage, he kept us organized as far as keeping the corp running, industry and pvp-wise. After he left, I took over, to which I completely sucked the peen. But without a doubt, in my experience in this game, n00b script0r has by far been the best CEO. From organizing pvp operations to fleet commanding to dealing with political and diplomatic issues, his dedication to the game and the corp is unwavering.

CYVOK, for picking up the pieces and sa***uarding one of the best corps in the game after Ishkur got RL interfering and I got burnt out on doing all the management **** that I didn't sign up for :)

Also, then general idea is make money carebearing so you can pvp. We make money ganking npcers so we can pvp. I can't work out where all the money from detroid + scalding pass goes. Corp wars against alliances and rents for a corp the size of ATUK are expensive.

Edited by: Krapz on 28/04/2005 19:41:04 Edited by: Krapz on 28/04/2005 19:33:49 CYVOK. I'll explain it too.
We had a previous CEO who did an incredible job at getting this corp off the ground. It was a venture into this game with a RL friend of mine, Shakz. Ishkur, Shakz, Fatamorgana, Waagaa, Erzengal, myself and a few others (not trying to cut anyone out, sorry) all got together to make this thing called Celestial Horizon in Eve happen. Shakz and Ish both were former members of BSC, who showed them the ropes of how to mine, and how to organize a corp.
We were gaining players every day, from contacts in EnB that wanted something different the devs in EnB were putting less and less into the game. Finally EnB shutdown, and since many of our founding members were very influential over on EnB, CLS turned into a natural refuge spot for many of the players. We used Shakz's forums for a while, from the EnB days, and everything was going good. Probably too good. We went from 6 members, to 25, to 120, to over 200 in a span of a couple months. Ishkur did great as a CEO, organizing events, helping newer players, etc. But with a corp that size, I don't think anyone was ready for the commitment it took. In the middle of this came acceptance into XF (I think we had 30-45 ppl at the time) which brought more administrative time.
At the same time, CYVOK had started introducing the idea of "regionalizing" our operations as we expanded them. Creating different departments of a corp is nothing new. But tracking assets, income/loss, performance. That s**t would normally make me want to go back int the office, since I could do all that there, but the thing is, it worked. Everyone not only liked it, they loved it. Moreso, they loved the teamwork attitude that CYVOK inspires in everyone. The now legndary "Genesis" division in CLS is long since retired, but these guys were awesome. They could mine record amounts of minerals in incredible times. Seems carebearish, but to get an honest corp off the ground, this is what it takes, and these guys did it better than anyone.
During our first war with Mercenary Frigates, I was probably one of the more senior ppl in corp. I could use cruise missiles on my kessy! Killing "pink taco" and subsequently getting killed 5 seconds later was the norm. I think less than 5 ppl had cruisers to use at the time. And then out of nowhere CYVOK undocks with battleships. Not just 1. He loses the first, and undocks a 2nd one! All of a sudden, we're all thinking "OMG, Who the F is THIS guy??" Think back to the days you all were n00bs, or when BS's were just introduced. Makes you feel small in a frig. On top of that, people were doing really good to have 1 million isk in their wallets. A couple ppl even had double digits of millions. CYVOK was in the billions category. And he sacrificed all of it for CLS in these fights and subsequent operations.
Long story short, Ishkur's RL started to take him away from game, more and more (election year). We had an election for new CEO, I think CYVOK won it with about 99% of the vote.
We didn't just do better. We absolutely exploded with this style of industrialist/PvP/agent-running teamwork that we shared. We created more divisions, and had HQ's everywhere. CYVOK came up with rewarding pay systems. Pay systems for our PvP'ers for killing enemiues. Pay systems for our more intensive "D6" mining operations. Pay systems for our low end miners, and incentive systems to get them into better quality ships faster.
But through it all, it was the absolute teamwork that we all had, and that originated from CYVOK that got us through every hard time in this game to date.
He is not a PvP'er, although when his alt hits you with turrets, I gaurantee you will say ouch.
He is not a miner, but his "other" alt can put just as much bistot in a can as anyone else.
He is a leader. He doesn't smack. He doesn't insult. He is upbeat, curteous, thoughtful, positive, obsessive, committed and funny. This guy is a machine. There are only a couple ppl that I know of that spend as much time "in game", and more time committed to their corp's operations than CYVOK. He personally hosts our websites now, as well as our forums, and spends more personal money on this game than anyone I know. He lives and breathes CLS. He's the Eve version of "Major Winters" from the Band of Brothers series.
It's almost inexplainable. Anyone that comes across him in this game will probably say the same things, as everyone can probably see.
Any corp would be successful with him at the helm. He resonates victory. Every CLS member is glad we have him.

Agreed with my fellow sniggles, Shamis is the unsung hero of snigg, he keeps the corp going no matter how bleak things can get and is able to balance the corp between casual play and organised ops very well.

I know it been said but I would have to vote CYVOK.
The amount of time and work that man puts in for his corp and his alliance is absolutely amazing. We wouldnt run anywhere as smoothly if it wasnt for him.
But its not just the CEO that makes a corp work, we also have a great team in the management role.
CYVOK is a great enabler. My hat is well and truly off to him

Ack - CEO of RONA. He may be a grumpy old bastard, but he is just awesome. There is nothing the guy will not do for his Corp and its members. Absolute class.
EddZ - If Adolf ****** was still alive and played Eve, his name would be KIAEddZ. He Knows when to have fun, and when to kick peoples arses into gear.
I don't think there are many people on these forums actually like EddZ, but if you know him, you can't help but love him.... even if some of his posts make you cringe. :P
InkZ - When he was sober, he could organise some really cool mining Ops.... in Nonni. ...and hearing his sexual exploits really gave the Corp a good laugh. :P

Why? Coz he havent been online that much lately due to IRL Business(i.e. making money) so the rest of us have run rampage all over our corp, kickin puppies, flying wickedly fitted ships, taking out is personal stash of ³bernamed loot for a spinn and giving it away for fun, h4xx0ring his account doing random convos to ppl asking them to share their pain and then demanding randsom not to post the logs somewhere. Then end it all with an evil laughter.
Why does all this make him the best then? Because he havent figured it out yet...

Edited by: Zzazzt on 30/04/2005 02:10:54 One player's hero is another player's nightmare. All corps are different, and as Cyvok says, a CEO can only ever be as good as the corp he supports.
Any player who gives of him (or her)self to the task of improving the experience of his players is a great CEO.
I have had the honour to be associated with many fine leaders in this great game, and can say honestly that greatness is all about perception. In no particular order (and some by reputation/experience of their corpies only), my respect (as a fellow CEO) has been won by many, for varied reasons:
Mirus Crosius SirMolle Talitha TerminusX Destable Baltafett jake sisko Delaan lordmix Galavet Cyvok Jade Constantine Blacklight N'Fran Chowdown (much as I hate to admit it ) n00b script0r Cao Cao Trigger Buddrow KIAInkz & KIAEddz (thay are, after all, a double act ) Robeyone Hardin (& anyone else who has worn the CEO's badge in PIE) Yuki Li Seleene Kaleigh Doyle
There are of course, countless others throughout the game whom I've not met/heard of who deserve mention. At the end of the day, anyone who cares about their corp & acts to the best of their ability in the interests of her members (whatever they may be) is a great CEO. Also, don't forget that some of the best are leading small 10-20 man corps & you never have and/or never will hear of them.
Kudos.

Two guys stand out ahead of all the rest for me:
Juno Wakefield, for the way he built C6 from nothing into once of the toughest (and most fun) corps in the toughest alliance in EvE. He's starting a RL business now so with his record he'll be able to retire soon and we'll have him back playing again :-)
Nez Perces, who keeps the entire alliance (not just his own corp) running smoothly by doing just about all the boring management stuff so the rest of us can enjoy ourselves. Nice one m8!

I would like to say that I feel that Pat Sharp is the bestest CEO in the Universe. He only beats me when I am very bad.
I am allowed out of my hanger on special occasions, such as mining and running deep into 0.0 to get his dancing girls, who are very pleasant company once de-loused.
The financial policies he has implimented in the corp are stunningly simple - Whats mine is his whats his is his own.
I often sit in my cell ............. shsssh that guards are coming .............. arghhh

Without a doubt I think CYVOK is the best CEO in this game.
I cannot begin to imagine what it must be like to run a 540 member corporation in such a way as to keep the majority happy and run the corp almost flawlessly.
He probably spends more time than anyone else in this game doing nothing but admin. stuff inluding the amazing BLOGs that he posts every week.
We all have the utmost respect for him. Hats off to ya CYVOK.
And kudos to all the CEO's out there who have been mentioned in this post. You're doing something right, your members respect you and that's all that matters.

He gave me a hauler when I first went out to mine in 0.0 space and got me hooked up with guys for a couple of rat hunting sessions there, and took the time to teach me some PvP tactics back in Empire. Avariel (ex-CEO of Black Avatar). Hands down without doubt.
I was never a member of his corporation, but I'll tell you why it is such an easy choice for me. Avariel was the one man show that was the initial basis for what Querious region has become today.
He put the region above his corporation as needed, and was a master of diplomacy. Querious would likely be another Delve or Period Basis if not for his values which he successfully imparted upon the residents of a whole region, who then passed them onto others. He was never a member of FIX, but if you really want to look for the root cause of why FIX is as strong as it is today, Avariel has a lot to do with it.
Respect.

The corp was a bit crap but he was an awesome guy and good person to have as ceo.... apart from that, n00b scriptor does a fairly decent job, with 300 bloodthirsty pilots he always managed to make enemies of randoms enough to keep us happy ;)

I had 3 CEOs above me in a span of 2-3months when I first joined EVEM 2 years ago. I was then the CEO of EVEM up until 2 months ago.
In game I was responsible for my corp of 50+ members plus commanding FA fleets and leading the FA on occasion.
In RL I am responsible for 60+ officers. With that said I have a great understaning of leading and following.
I have now been a pilot of VOTF for the past month and XirtamVOTF is the most impressive leader I have seen in game (and out of game).
I could list off the qualitys that make him the capable leader he is, but I will save him the embarrassment of it.

I think the most best CEO I've ever come across is definately Latta of Carbide Industries. I've never met another player in Eve who has managed to inspire loyalty in such a broad spectrum of players, who has worked so hard at Eve to make it fun for everyone and who has literally made Eve worth playing month after month.
That said, he's crazy I tell you, he's left me running the Building Department :)

Originally by: Lucian Alucard Rampage imho,a good man by all accounts and a very good tactician SGE hasn't been the same without him. RIP Rampage!!!
Cheers to that, Alucard.
We have have not and will not ever be the same. Ramp, was one of a kind. We miss him dearly. Copied from my bio...
Andrew, had GREAT leadership characteristics. As a true leader, Andrew guided SGE, he did not rule us. He had a strong sense of vision, passion and was able to get people to commit 100% and take the necessary action to see that vision become a reality. He exceled in the art of communication and motivation. He gave allies and foes alike the mutual respect they deserved, and within the corporation he instilled confidence and enthusiasm in us all, and day in and out Andrew showed credibility and integrity on a consistent basis. I admired him dearly. |

There are several great ones both past and present.
Cyvok - I've heard of him and his reputation is deserved. SirMolle - Just creating the machine that is Evolution make him worthy. Trigger - MASS is an Eve institution and much of that is due to Trigger's hard work. Ragnar - The late great Ragnar of TTI was a legend in the early days. Love him or hate him they were great for a time. Tornsoul - BIG is just..... well..... BIG!! Shamiz - Sniggle's CEO is a great chap for a pirate. Jade Constantine - Love her or hate her you have to admit she's an icon in Eve.
