it's not the books.
go into it not expecting the book, and it was a half-decent film, overall. That you knew which jokes were coming was the biggest let-down.
personally I was very pleased to be able to spot the original TV Marvin, and the original Arthur Dent in cameos, that made the film for me, because they were completely unexpected "in" jokes.
the Vogons were brilliantly done, in terms of character design.
but I'm ashamed to say that I rather want Zaphod's wardrobe....

That isn't the only War of the Worlds movie due out this year. I'm just praying they don't stuff up the Red Dwarf movie...
As for Hitchhikers, I've only ever seen the TV show, which I wasn't exactly blown away by. That said, I was pretty young at the time so the humour could have gone right over my head. Don't think I'll be rushing out to see the film, though.

America doesn't "do" comedy. points at star wars any of em (the new ones)tho, not funny, more 'crap'

How can you say that? American humor is just different.
simpsons, south park, family guy, adult swim. I agree live action shows have been lacking in humor as of late. But theres always sienfeld, curb your enthusiasm, etc..

Urm it seems that all the stuff you listed there was very stupid humour generally based on taking the **** out of *** people or the old or whatever else is topical at the moment. I find it hard to define "creating jokes out of whoever is next in line to get assaulted" as humour.
The only humour i find coming out of america is the excuses they have for blowing half the world up.
There is no comparison between american "humour" and british humour.

first of all im not british so its not "my humour"...and second of all i hit the nail right on the head regards american humour...i mean i like family guy and all that but in all fairness its all extremely brainless...and it is based around short quick stabs at highlighted groups...specifically the *** community in the case of family guy...

yea...your right....and its hee-friggin-larious. there is no comparing british and american humor. But, COME ON, everyone loves making fun of everyone else. It's funny, and if you are offended by it then lighten up. its all in good fun.

i saw the movie, and i rather liked it. i tihnk the biggest let down for me was there were less exerpts (that the right word?) from the guide. i find i liked those the best. however, i can understand why people would hate it. it's definatly different from the book, unlike the TV series, which i think was almost exactly like the book.
if you loved the book and would hate to see it chaged, don't see the movie
if you haven't read the book, or woulden't mind something different, see the movie.

Personally, I thought it an odd visualization of the book. Odd being good.
Past that, whaddya expect froma movie? LotR length?

I would challenge you to find any major racial/religious/sexual group out there NOT made the butt of jokes for Family Guy.
Hell, I'm sure forum-*****ing MMORPG players like us are in there too, or will be.  And it will be Hilarious!

Wasn't the same when Rimmer left 
(Just to be on topic I thought hitchhikers was pretty meh too. Liked the dolphins thanks for all the fish in the begining but steadily got worse from there. I think the actor from the tv show playing arthur was better because he got irritated a lot and it was funny  The guy from the office was bland most of the time and OTT the rest it seemed to me  )

Um, do none of you know how to look up who WROTE the movie? Thouse saying 'eww the americans destroyed it, they even messed up the first seen'
85% OF THE MOVIES WAS WRITTEN BY DOUGLAS ADAMS INCLUDING THE FIRST SCENE BEFORE HE DIED.
The last 15% and ONLY 15% of the movie was written by the other writer.
Adams even said it himself in 'the ultimate hichhikers guide to the galaxsy' that every time he writes a script or a book he changes the story. So if the movie sucked which IMO it ruled, and i'm an american, go blame it on Adams (RIP)
