Not sure if it has been said, but: You probably wouldn't be able to "land" on a planet with anything bigger then a shuttle. You definately won't be able to build ships and most components due to a concept called gravity. Though it would allow possibilities for trade runs (small quantities though unless they put out new ships designed for landing and hauling). Remember that large ships have their own gravity so a battleship getting close would cause major tide flux's etc, and wouldn't have enough thrust power to escape orbit if they land and would probably be crushed by the gravity on entering the system. Remember Star Trek ships are about the size of a frigate. (Titan's have almost destroyed planets by warping too close to planets). ----

planets would be amazing for trading purposes (so that suddenly something other than mining rights at asteroids is worth fighting for)
it would be a huge advance for the game, if the alliances could start fighting over population trading rights and taxation...

If they ever have planet(stations). I want the ability to carpet bomb them. Though I really dont think they should do that. Id rather see new space environments, more regions and the opening of jovian space before they ever think about making EVE by way of EQ.

I like the idea of Landing on planets. Of course not gaseous planets. Requesting to enter the atmosphere. The environment would be like the rest of eve but with land to crash into underneith you. It would allow you mine certain mineral areas for stuff. Stations on the ground would be just like stations in EVE space now be that POS or NPC.
Stations have populations right? Why not planets, if habitable?

Also, which ships will be able to land? Most of the existing ones aren't exactly aerodynamic. Most all would burn up on entry. Can you imagine trying to fly a Vigil or Tristan in an atmostphere?
I'd suggest allowing Shuttles to land....also opens up the possibility for new ship types (e.g., boosters and landers)...land owning manufacturers would need a booster to get the goods into orbit.... |

perphars such an addition would be so much about the planets themselvies, but the people on them. like have larger ships being able to sign on officers to help things run better, a place to find passengers, under ground groups,a place to hide yourself or your things when things get hot,or a place to bliuld certain facility cheaply.
no need to design and make entire planet surfaces, just the model of the world allready use, or a space port of some sort. interrace will probloy siliar to that of spacestations.

Originally by: Bonaventure Augustine I played this game when it was Earth and Beyond. Pretty planets and stations could never make up for the fact there was nothing to do once you got there.
Are you sure you're talking about E&B??? I've been playing it also, and walking on the station was a matter of getting some job, buying upgrades, trading, painting your ship, changing your clothes, chatting face2face and looking at beautiful landscapes by windows. So there was a lot to do...
It was greatly done. It would be nice to see those in EVE.
Regards.

It would be cool if you could bomb a planet from space and destroy player run stations on the planet's surface, or change the scenery of the planet by scorching the earth or being able to destroy cities if you have enough fire power.

What would make planet content interesting and deep (given the sheer number and limited dev time) is a radical step toward open source mmo development. With 5000 systems, there are plenty of planets to allow planet dev submissions from open source community. Would require code reviewers and such as with Linux. But the damage to the game from poorly implemented planets would be isolated by flagging planets as player/opensource created (land at your own risk). And the entry sequence could cut to code that was isolated from main space gameplay code...and main gameplay servers. From an economic standpoint, and to keep opensource created planets from damaging anything else, Eve could offer a server slice for anyone who wanted to host a planet...for a fee in real money.
Whether one gets out and walks about is less of an issue for me. Could be terrestrial ships.
Eve seems to have long-run legs. These things in one form or other will come in time....maybe a long time.

Rather they implent some mobility on the space stations first. And making some possibilities to making stations, ships and pos more unique.
Let's focus on envolving space first, planets as a fps will never happend in this game. At least not in the near 5 years. There is so much more in space to put the dev resources on.

Ultimately what people want are delluded flights of fancy. Let's get people into 0.0 before we dream up goals to only be let down. This isn't SWG nor is it Anarchy Online. When it is all said and done, even painting corp logo's on ships is pretty far fetched to the current state of the game. Would I like to mope around a cantina waiting for some bum I am tracking across 200 systems to wander in so I can collect bounty... you betcha... do I want our DEV team to rush out and change the current game to allow it... not on you're life. Lets create a better EVE as it stands and balance some things out first and foremost.

I would like to be able to enter a planets atmosphere, it cannot be to complicated to add they had it in Fontier Elite (altho that aint an online game) with maybe a hangar you can rent like another game i played a while ago ( cannot remember the name but the aim was to escape from titan a moon around jupitor, and solve the alien conspiracy thing)
so i think a nice backgrounds not to important just giving planets a substance in the game is enought and ports, hangar or mining droids are just bonuses to such ideas. |

what about landing on a surface and using servey scanner to find acent artifacts. and maby jove stuff.. use shuttles to land and open trade route w/ ppl form the plantes. make it soo that only shuttles can land and u can get rare items, say items that u need to buld new ships or ammo. make it like a staiton where u cant get out but u can go from plante colonie to colonie. a way to get allainces that own regions more money make plantes pay u isk per week. would also give a new weapon orbiatl bombs. **i.e. gall vs caldari war. *** just my 2cents..
