Hi all,
Just tried the new missiles, in a .3 system.
In front of me were 1 angel Depredator and 4 angel raiders. I sit in a Raven (low-end equipment, ie, not a single named one); I have Torpedoes 5, Cruise missiles 5 and Caldari Battleship 5.
The cruiser goes down in two torps (or so the log says - an average of 380 hit points per Inferno Torpedo). I think the log missed some hits, but even so, that's the way a 20m character should take out a 40k pirate.
Now on to the frigates. 4 angel raiders, come on. Drones or not, a Raven (or any battleship, for that matter) should take them out in no time.
EACH Inferno Torpedo did an average of 34 damage. This not only sound utterly unrealistic (after all the torpedo batch costs more in minerals than the frigate it is fired at), but also unbalanced. The rationale behind the now old large turret nerf versus small targets (signature radius versus signature resolution) was that a small target would take less damage from a comparatively "large" attack. This is fine, as I love to fly frigates too.
But even though hits are less frequent, they still hurt as hell once they come down. :)
Now, _large_ missiles DO hit _small_ targets more often than _large_ turrets do (not tracking involved, no optimal range, no falloff, etc). But is it a reason to nerf them so much? I understand that a torpedos one-shotting a frigate is bad. However, that I need about 50 to take it down is another thing. What large turrets needs so much? None.
I read a little above that _large_ missiles should do smaller damage to _small_ targets. I totally agree. However, it is not good that they do less damage than a smaller missile. No matter the balancing involved in that.
Is it not possible to tweak the numbers (explosion velocity and so on) a bit so that versus frigate/cruiser/battleship sizes, we will have the following base damage (not skills involved, only base damage):
- rockets: 25/25/25 - light missiles: 75/75/75 - heavy missiles: 100/120/150 - cruise missiles: 125/180/300 - torpedo: 200/320/450
I would like such a change. But the ones I saw tonight are a bit too much, imvho :)
Cheers :)
