Lasers now sound like someone recorded a rubber ball bouncing off a wall and slowed it down a hundred times. All I can think of when they fire is blobs of wet toilet paper hitting concrete... which actually coincides quite nicely with where lasers stand in the general DPS theme of things.

I'd have to say that second explosion sound when a ship dies (the one that sounds like someone slamming a door shut in an echoing room) is annoying. Especially when you have multiple clients open and on grid. It doesn't even get much quieter when you are zoomed out.
Please remove that sound.
Also, the AC's now kinda sound pathetic. Like paintball guns or like an SMG. |

I HATE all of the new laser sounds.
I love this game and I love this patch and you guys continue to impress me but the new lasers are the worst thing that has ever been done ever. They now sound like people making synthesized fart sounds with their mouths. I was in a L4 Sanshas mission and it was absolutely terrible.
I always felt that mega pulses could have used some more oomph but everything has been ruined for me.
Again, phenominal patch and the Corax is the best looking ship ever made, but you ruined lasers for me. |

Sounds in general in Eve were always underwhelming. I guess it's about time you devote a couple of people to them |

I say keep the new sounds but let us put in our own via an upload or something. All the weapon noices would then be turned into various profanities for me. Or I would just voice in my own BANG BANG BANG for them. <corrupt> |

I like the new sounds, but all of them could use a little more bass, and a little less treble.
Edit: Same with the gate fire noise. Nice, but needs more bass. "In the age of information, ignorance is a choice." |

Dual lights are the only ones I've tried so far (I'm not near any of my usual ships), but I admit, they do sound punier than the old ones, needs more aggression somehow.
I have to quote this man;
Horatius Caul wrote:The production quality of the new weapon sounds is very good. However, I agree that the sounds themselves don't fit the feel that has been established for so long. Onomatopoeia ahead.
The lasers especially remind me of the change that was made to stargate sounds, which changed the gatefire sound from ERRRRRRRRR-BWAM to fwosh. It's a change that makes the world of EVE sound padded and soft and just... not harsh.
Pulse lasers have now gone from BA-DANG-DANG-DANG to fa-dup fa-dup, and beams have gone from FREEEEEEM to kdeshhh.
As I said I like the quality of the sounds, but I hope you can understand why this feels like quite the long jump in sheer feel of the weapons.
Projectiles and hybrids I quite like, but I haven't used them much in my career before. I especially like the blasters, but like the lasers the railguns also sound padded and fuzzy.
What he says about the sounds is pretty bang on. I still want the old ssssssss-BOOM entering warp noise back personally! |

Now, this isn't my view on all guns, yet small guns should sound punier than the old sounds as an established base, and med should have the same energy as old sounds, and heavy+ should sound more powerful than old ones. All weapon sizes shouldn't sound like a doomsday. Every complaint I saw during testing was that every weapon size needed more bass. Small ships should sound small. |

I'm slowly dying inside while listening to the soft murmur of my Giga modal pulse lasers. My sebo is louder than they are... When I fly a ship where the guns are the size of some subcaps I want a punch to the sound. Bring back the old Apocrypha era BRRRZZZT! |

I'm worried cuz I just started an Amarr alt so that I could enjoy the FREEEEEEEEEEM of lasers but sounds like they've gone a whole new direction! Lasers, if they're a constant beam, should have a powerful drilling-through-your-hull sound. If they're more pew pew they should have a really pew pew electro zap sound to them. Small lasers should have that legit lazers pewpew sound.
All I've heard so far is large artillery and AC and those are better. New large arty sound is awesome!!! But yeah I did hear the new small and medium laser sounds on Our Eve on Youtube and I had the same reaction as these guys. Seemed way too soft...light...not scary at all. |

Agree with the folks who say more bass, more Umph. The weaking of the sounds started for me (please hold the troll poo) when they got rid of the old strip miner sounds for the new annoying high treble Zzzzizzing noise they make now.
Feel free to take a look at that sound while your thinking about the others. I just wish I could get close enough to see the damn 1400's on my maelstrom let alone feel the bass one would assume you feel inside the ship as 8 turrets launch 16 Volkswagen beetle sized projectiles through somethings hull.
Old strip miner sound for reference: Old Strip Miner Sound
Mega pulse turrets maybe should go down a few octaves, more bass... Missiles should not be so snap, crackle, and pop'y.. more BOOM. I remember an old thrumming noise that now sounds like static when I turn on an armor hardener.
The sounds feel like the turrets are attached to 1/4" metal plates sitting on my garage floor, not welded to the hull of a battleship.

The new laser sounds are in fact not too bad, when I heard them the first time from NPC frigates, I liked them in an instant. They are very suitable for small laser turrets. However, when I got to know that also the medium and large turrets had the same sounds I was more like http://stickerish.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/AreYouKiddingMeBlackSS.png . I mean, it's really ok to give small lasers the sound of baby laser droid sidearms from Star Wars. But large weapons? It's like having Arnold Schwarzenegger talking in a warped baby voice in Terminator.
Also, the new laser impact sounds, at least Tachyons, do not sound like the scorching impact of energy weapons that melt your hull and evaporate your shields. Some of them sound more like impacting fridges fired from a projectile turret.
All in all, the sounds themselves are not bad, but they cannot be applied to every laser regardless of its size. |

I was quite fond of the discharge "pop" old Mega Pulse had but frankly the rest of the effect was not as cool. Now they sound a little cartoon toy-ish. I'd put the reminiscent popping of a major capacitor discharge back in. You know the sound of a camera flash charging up? The high-pitched tone that turn ultrasonic ? Slap that in after the pop. *pop* fweeeeeeee *pop* fweeeeee onomatopoeia etc
edit btw, once you zoom out a little, that muffled ambiance it turn into? I can feel the hits rumbling and shaking the hull... You nailed that part _perfectly_. |

Aralieus wrote:I have used lasers and only lasers since birth so I have been exclusively around them for the past 3 years or so and the new sounds are indeed underwhelming. Very weak and almost immersion breaking. We are thousands of years in the future with highly advanced technology and lasers sound like a pony passed gas.
Do you mean that Harbinger sounding KA-TANK-KA-TANK-KA-TANK from 200 km away wasn't immersion breaking? |

I think the new sounds are a step in the right direction. But like many opinions in this thread, they need mastering and tweaking.
a) Dreadnought guns need to be beastly. More bass. Instill the FEAR. Make me believe that is really is a capital gun. Remember that the guys on 15" laptops might enjoy sounds more than graphics.
b) I miss the hollow echo sound of medium pulse lasers. Currently medium and small pulse lasers sound too alike. No need to rollback medium pulse sounds, but make them sound more distinct.
c) Warp sound could use a better peak when you reach high acceleration.
Hope this helps Guns of Knowledge-á |

So far I've only really heard the small hybrid rails, but in that case at least . . . WAY BETTER! They sound neat and alien and interesting. The old sound was kinda unpleasant to listen to and unimpressive, but the new small rail sound is fantastic!

To me the laser sounds are all a bit boring and don't sound like the weapons of mass destruction these space ships carry around. I do like the new autocannon sounds, not the artillery. Blasters don't sound too convincing, but it is a good upgrade from the old ones. Rails sound better too, but lack the punch I would feel they should have, like http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=6BfU-wMwL2U#t=16s |

Being a primary lazor user, I appreciate the understated sounds of the new laser turrets. We are going in the right direction, but I don't think we are there yet. The sounds need a bit of "oomph" so to speak...like a small finale in them.
The jetcan dropping from a wreck completely destroys the explosion sounds however...need to fix that. Karash Amerius Operative, Sutoka |
