Drones die ridiculously fast now. I know their HP haven't been changed or anything, but with the new AI they get targeted en masse by rats and can die in just a few seconds.
For example, I was doing the mission Damsel in Distress with my Rattlesnake. I have maxed out drones skills and Gallente BS V. So my drones get a bunch more hit points. I put out 5x Ogre IIs and was targetting the Battleships that were orbiting me at around 3-4k. The cruisers / battlecruisers would target an Ogre II and within a few seconds it would be into structure. I was watching them like a hawk, and was able to pull them in before they died... but if they had been further than say 4k from my ship? Dead Ogres.
Even after reaggroing everything and launching them again, the same thing would happen.
This is insane. Drones are pretty much worthless against NPCs now in higher level missions or content with a lot of rats.
I understand that we want to get away from the AFK drone boat style, but fully maxed out HP Ogre IIs dying in seconds is ridiculous.
I propose that CCP reduce damage to Drones from NPCs by 95%. This way no HP changes will affect PvP. Also this way you still can't AFK as your drones will still get popped. But it will give durability to drones such that they can be useful again for attacking targets over a longer range from your ship, and a careful player will be able to micro them back and forth to the ship.
Also it would be nice to have some sort of self repairing ability to repair drones armor / hull once inside your drone bay. |

I've been using drone boats in missions for years. I know how the aggro system works. You do realize CCP changed mission AI right?

I've heard people use this tactic:
1) release set of cheap T1 drones;
2) allow rats to chew couple of them - they'll become "stuffed" and start to ignore drones;
3) call out T1 drones and deploy T2.
With this new "anti-drone" AI CCP could at least implement ability to inject new drones into drone bay directly from cargo w/o parking at station. |

I partially agree, my issue is how fast cruisers change target to drones. sometimes it's nearly instant and you can risk having to recall and put out drones 4 to 6 times, before you can focus down anything without interruption.
This change is putting a HUGE nerf on all drone based ratting platforms, like sentry carriers.. |

CCP has been wanting people to get away from Soloing Level 4's, I think, and this is one of the changes. Granted, it does hurt a lot of PVE, I know in Null doing sites is more difficult due to this as well. Also, there is a 'bug' I've seen mentioned that CCP knows about and is working around for this, I won't give details but its there if you search.

EXPANSION ABOUT NERFS, Because Missiles were ok for 6 years now but now they're overpowered.
a.) PVE
1. All missile ships are now obsolete (very low range and decreased damage) 2. All Drone ships are now obsolete due to new AI (your drones get targeted as soon as you deploy them) 3. All ships that rely on drones for protection against frigates are obsolete 4. NPC's tracking disruptor now affects optimal range and falloff instead of just optimal range, which makes 800mm's minmatar ships obsolete in pve. 5. All npc complexes and ark missions are now insanely hard to do, you can't use drones 6. There are only few ships that can save you from mission if you loose all of your drones and get stuck (scrambled with npc agression). 7. New meta 9 - 14 drone modules are obsolete for pve, since ai will always shoot your drones. 8. If you use marauders or other ships for guristas missions you'll get perma jammed, there's nothing you can do since you can't use drones.
b). PVP 1. All Heavy Missile ships are now obsolete 2. Drake is worst battlecruiser for pvp 3. Hurricane got nerfed so it is kinda useless now 4. Tengu now sucks compared to other t-3's 5. Very hard to gank someone ratting in low sec or 0.0 with stealth bombers or frigate since npc's will switch targets

Shouldn't the ECM compensation skills make you less likely to get jammed in the first place? Let's take paladin for example. PALADIN has 12 sensor strength, that's less than t-1 cruiser.
Omen (t-1) cruiser has 15, Paladin has 12.
So even with everything on level 5, it still is stupid and you'll get jammed 99.8% of all time. Paladin with level 5 skills has 14.4 sensor strength. |

I haven't tried/even really read the missile nerfs since they don't really effect me, should look into it though... I will say it seems a lot of ship types are getting hit hard with this, and hope CCP sees this and the effect it is having.

In all honesty I have zero remorse for mission runners who are thrown for a loop by the AI change. They have enjoyed almost 10 years of missions being laid out in the exact same format and a little bit of drone damage sends them over the edge? Pathetic. If anything they should be thanking CCP like crazy considering they will be less plagued with ninja salvagers, mind numbing game play, mind numbing game play, mind numbing game play and mind numbing game play.
God I wish I could design a new system for how missions would work. No mission would ever be the same. Close as possible PvP situations. Solo mission grinding would be the worst way to make ISK/hour. Mission runners would be far more informed on game mechanics and scenarios when it comes to PvP. Then they would not run from risk and combat and glory but embrace it!

Well people will stop doing missions and move to incursions. Missions will become abandoned and ccp will ask themselves if new npc ai was necessary. People are making isk for pvp ships from missions, but now that missions are nerfed and acting the same way as incursions, why not do incursions instead ? |

Lets see...
PvE:
1. Golem, Raven, any ship that uses HAM's or Rockets. These all just got a nice buff making them far from useless. 2. If you literally only ever relied on drones to complete a mission you were doing it wrong anyway. 3. See above. 4. Don't fly anymore so can't comment. 5. Oh noes, things aren't easy peasy ISK printers now? That's a shame. How about you adapt? 6. As with numbers 2 and 3. You seem to be stuck in a logic loop at this point. 7. AI always shot at your drones, now they do it a little more. Drones mods are still effective, please adapt. 8. I don't even...How about not accepting the mission? Or I don't know.......take someone with you!! Would you like your nose wiped as well as your hand held?
As for the PvP side of things I am less knowledgeable and therefore not qualified to make definitive statements. But considering your "Facts" I don't think I can do any worse.
1. This is called rebalancing. People used FOTM, it gets balanced, people switch to new FOTM and so on. See a pattern? 2. See above. 3. Please qualify your assertion with some actual facts. I fly the Hurricane and it seems to work just fine for me. Adapt. 4. This is just a stupid comment. I also fly a maxed out HAMgu, believe me, it is far from useless. 5. Awww, you mean you might have to work for your kills now? That's a crying shame.....
In summation, it appears you have no idea what game you are playing. "The truth is usually just an excuse for a lack of imagination." Elim Garak.

It is a bit rediculous at the minute, try running level 5s, fighters dieing also in seconds as 20 BS and 20 BC instantly target and unleash hell, the frigates scramming and webbing them mean you've no chance to recall them so they die.

Just a suggestion when you are being jammed.
In the case of a missile user, use FoF's, they work pretty well for the purpose. Very underutilised. They may not pack the punch of non-FoF's, but they get the job done. FoF missiles on lvl5 actually mean something now.
Turret users being jammed - other than using sensor boosters, I have no suggestions to make.

Worlds Collide, where you get dropped into a bunch of Serp scrammers? That could prove impossible if you can't use pest control drones to get the points n webs off before the dps stacks up. Got a faction fitted mach out with 12% structure from that one when the Serps were still HURR zombies, if they really are drone eaters like sleepers that one L4 mission might demand a major fitting juggle for that one room. I dropped my drone ratting ship and any training I was planning for drones the moment CCP announced the AI change. It was pretty obvious that drones we're going to be much harder work in ratting than they are worth.
It's not the target switching that's the issue. It's that the drone UI is so awful that you can't tell what's targeting them and what with. If the drone UI allowed you to see what ships where targeting them you'd have much more information to deal with the change.
Once the drone UI is improved drones will be worth the effort again.

All the new players who have put all their skillpoints into Drones and Gallente are just going to love that bit of advice. It is just terrible fail to make a complete race of ships mostly useless at missions in one go. Most other ships that rely on drones to take out frigates are useless as well.
So CCP basically says, stop solo L4 mission or GTFO. This has overshot the get-rid-of-AFK-missioning by a mile. Adjusting PVE mechanics dramatically but NOT adjusting missions to compensate is just terrible. I suspect a lot of casual highsec players will just say **** it play something else instead.

My ratting alt has max drone skills, I'm not delighted I'm now going to have to dock up his boat until the drone UI gets buffed. However; practically speaking you'll have to bounce to a new setup or spend all day raging. CCP aren't going to change this for a while, so do something else. |

Agreed. Don't like losing drones? Instead of whining on here, spend a few days to train into something else that isn't a droneboat.
Good, this would be a better game without the casuals. Good riddance to them. And if you really think that drone boats have been nerfed to obseletion, all that means is you're doing it wrong. Because all my newly refit drone boats are working as intended.

Well I have an alt who has great drone skills and will admit not had chance to try the new mechanics for PvP yet but personally love the idea of making the game more interesting.
I have been guilty in the past of Dominix AFK L4 missioning and yes its an income (but was never great even with loot and salvage).
I would have been happier to see the offset of the addition of mission time or split of mission rewards (if you now need to fleet up) with some kind of recompense ..maybe slightly higher bounties, salvage or loot.
If, as certain posters seem to say, the possibility of solo L4s is dimninishing then that will effect the economy and push more of the less hardcore or newer players to purchase plex instead.
I love this game and really want to believe the best of CCP but I keep getting the nagging feeling that the abundant nerfs dressed up as 'new exciting content' are mainly cutting a large wedge of players from their income - which in turn is feeling more and more like turning this game into pay to play through plex.
Ive always thought that endgame is being able to sub your accounts through your hard work in game. I feel this is being stealthily removed.
Please prove to me I am wrong and revive my trust in CCP |

Very true.
The new system is not challenging at all. It's more like a waste of time.
The thing is why T2 drones have T1 resists and die almost instantly?!
Moreover why Rats use some unknown weapons? I mean they hit drones, they can hit you within 5km radius with their Arties or Rails with a high velocity. Why Rats use some super special weapons that we can't have?
I'd be perfectly fine with the new AI system if drones can stand more then 1-2 shots and have proper T2 resists (If the drones are T2). |

Kill missions are not that different from running in wh site to kill sleepers and salvage their blood to build those pesky tech3 ships... So they weren't a primary weapon system? Being a primary weapon system is not the same as doing missions completely with them. Hell, even on the primary drone platforms (Domis, Rattlers), doing missions completely with drones meant you were doing them wrong - a proper mission Domi gets no more than half its damage output from the drones.
Quote:"fyi people who run wspace sites have dealt with this for 3 years and they seem to be getting by ok "
Their content was designed from the ground up with this AI in mind. Missions were not. ...and yet, that content is still more challenging than any L4 can hope to be and is never the less doable. Their strategies for dealing with drone aggro have been in the game for almost four years now, and they can be transplanted wholesale to missions with roughly zero problems if you just choose to adapt to the new AI. People are complaining about an "issue" that was solved in mid-2009.
coolzero wrote:good luck trying to shoot anything with sentrys within 4km range...... Quite simple, actually. The targets will be within 4km of you. There is nothing that says they must be within 4km of the sentries, and even then, there are three more variables to the tracking formula that you can manipulate to make the shot easier for them.

This change is and has nothing to do with adapting, pvp or anything else. it's simply dumb, it makes (for me) using light drones a frustrating experience.
I prefer dual-boxing with mach/tengu already so I don't have to use drones, but decided to try some different things last night, like a solo rattlesnake and rattlesnake/mach combo. It was great, a target painter on the "Snake or Mach is more than enough to keep aggro of sentries and heavies because the new AI hates EWAR.
But try to use mediums (if there are any npc cruisers on the field) and that changes, and OMG lights just get snuff out on launch. I've tried pulling off aggro with target painters, high dps, webs, ECM, ECM bursts, and remote repping, but the frigs lock so fast at least 1 or two light drones will be damn near alpha's if any npc frigates are in range of you.
So back to FoF Tengu's as anti-frig support I went (again, Rattlesnake with sentries at stand-off range was quite good, i'll use that again and Vindicator with webs can kill npc frigs), but light drones get the shaft. And they weren't that good to begin with. CCP said the change was for more engaging PVE. if Engaging = annopying, this is a ccp win.
This is why some of us asked ccp to rethink laying new AI on old content rather than just making new content (fit for the new AI) and phasing out the old over time. The old missions, anomalies and complexes just don't act right now, some are too easy, some are way to hard and ccp is going to spend a LOT of time (time = money) fixing all they just broke. FYI, the mission runners soloing level 4 and generating immense amounts of isk are a PROBLEM for the economy, hence why people were calling for lvl 4 to get nerfed right outta highsec. This was an idea I personally disagreed with, but I'm glad to see a solution could be thought of that would make everyone happy. That is, making the AI more difficult and in turn making lvl 4 missions much more difficult to solo causes an interesting chain of events:
- serious mission runners who are capable of adapting do so, and keep at it - I wouldn't be surprised if level 4 mission running becomes a small gang activity soon, thereby sharing out some of the wealth that is generated by the mission. My corp is primarily a mission-running corp, and we've had some minor problems running level 4s solo, but nothing we haven't been able to beat. That being said, we are all in agreement that whenever possible, we should at least pair up.
- the general increase in difficulty of level 4 missions will make them less desirable to run solo, meaning in general that fewer people will run them, and most people who want to stick with missions will discover that they can still make money running level 3s. Less lvl4 mission running in general will reduce the massive isk generation that solo level 4 mission running has thus far generated
- making all missions more difficult will also improve the economy by separating the wheat from the chaff, so to speak - players like yourself that want easy mode and stomp their feet when they don't get their way will disappear (hopefully) which will, again, reduce the massive isk generation that's been taking place lately in high sec.
- I hear you asking "how does this make everyone happy? I'm not happy" Obviously, you will be when you leave. See? Everybody wins
- and finally... if people are finding a reason to form fleets to run lvl 4s, it may in fact encourage more people to step it up in their fleets, move out to low sec, and try some level 5s. some low-sec wealth generation would balance out some major economical issues in the game
It's a nerf to high sec mission running without actually directly nerfing high sec mission running. Or, in forum speak, it's a stealth mission nerf. IMHO, dev stealths are the best stealths
Additionally, if you think CCP is going to have any financial problems from the teeny few people unsubbing who probably use plex on their accounts anyway due to far-too-much isk generation from level 4 missions... well, let's just say there's a reason the tantrum posts like yours have not been addressed by the devs.
And lastly, when you leave... can I have your stuff?? You don't scare me. I've been to Jita. |

Reidar
It is (was) one of the few things that one could do solo. Just bear in mind not everyone live in the EU/US tz so to play EvE some things have to be able to be solo'd!

You have it all wrong. Missions did not get more difficult.
The only thing that changed you can't use drone boats now, which discriminats Gallente race hard. I have already 2 friends cancelled accounts because they do not enjoy playing guns n' missiles. They like drones. Ya I will have their stuff, which is sad.

The main problem for the ecenomy are Bots and "those who buy cheap and sell high". 80% of missions runners are solo/casual players who enjoy shooting things.

It's not a troll answer. It's a valid suggestion that gets brushed aside because it doesn't conform with what the people who want to keep doing what they've always been doing wish they could do.
Funky Lazers wrote:The only thing that changed you can't use drone boats now, which discriminats Gallente race hard.
Very hard to gank someone ratting in low sec or 0.0 with stealth bombers or frigate since npc's will switch targets Lets see... PvE: 1. This.

The fact that screwing up something then gives you incentive to find less screwed up things doesn't make the intital screwing up a good thing.
And then there are the unintended consequences of making the intial problem they were trying to solve worse.
Before this change I found it too annoying to use drones in Forsaken Hubs for example. now a simple target painter on my mach is enough to keep aggro off the 4 sentries I launch from the mach and the 5 sentries I launch from a rattle snake or the 13 I launch from a carrier.
Then end result is I just pumped a WHOLE lot more isk into my wallet last night than I would have been able to the day before, and it wasn't "more engaging pve game play" is was "use target painter and keep all aggro on my mach".
Hell it's even better than my mach/fof tengu set ups, as now all dps is concentrated rather than sometimes scattered (fof missiles attakc the closest target so sometimes the mach and tengu would shot different things).
This change turned my 140-150 mil an hour anomalies into 200 mil an hour anomalies....
How is any of this great for the game?

"Adapt" has long been the motto of those unaffected by a negative change.
I wrote a rather lengthy post some time ago in the features and ideas section about making PvE more interesting by making rats much tougher. So it is a concept that I'm certainly in favor of.
But this change, as I said when they proposed it, doesn't do that. Enemies aren't smarter in any way that makes the game more fun. They just shoot drones now.
So rather than make PvE any more fun or dynamic or interesting, you simply have one less tool to work with.
It's a bad change and they should feel bad for half-assing something so important. |

If you use gun boat or missile boat your still going to have issues.
I've been using a gun boat and had 2 sets of T2 light drones with maxed skills wiped out almost instantaneously.
I'm already learning how to approach these missions in different ways, so as I don't have to use drones at all or rarely have to. But what is the point in that, it's just a waste of my skill set as well an extinction of a once viable weapon. There's also instances where you simply can not do without drones, such as when you're pinned down by spider web drones or a frig in close orbit which as you scrammed. Good luck getting out of the latter situation without drones...

Shooting guns or missiles is not "actually having to work for virtual spaceship game money." Turret and missile ships are every bit as mindless in PvE as drone ships.

Are you sure about that? People don't pay $20 for a plex (which is $5 more than a one month sub and does the same thing) to fund their account. If people are using plex to extend their count, they are buying it in game with isk, not real money, hence how some people actually play the game for free. The only people who buy isk with real money are those that are selling it in game for isk to people that want to use it to extend their sub for free, paying isk instead of real money.
Do you understand how it works now, or shall I teach you how to use a calculator? If people are buying isk off the eve store for $5 more than a one month sub to extend their sub, then they have already failed at eve. You don't scare me. I've been to Jita. |

I thought this is rule 101 in mmo games. Just like Tank and Healers, where healers get aggro when they heal the tank on npc. Except it doesn't seem to work that way. Frigatesized npcs switch to small drones because their sig sizes are closer together. So if you have some frigates flying around you at short range, they change targets as soon as you release your drones and they alphastrike them out of space. |

You should have been training for various combat strategies and tactics already, and there is no such thing as a useless character. I've watched two-day-old characters in thrashers absolutely pwn both pvp and pve.

Sort of goes the other way around as well but for some funny reason that is always neglected. EVE is still first and foremost a MMO and a sandbox such, so just as much as you want those "elitist" players to accept your "casual" style of playing, you must also accept their style of gameplay which involves you possibly getting ganked, forced into PvP etc etc.

that was answered already so i just tell you my story. Maybe it will give you another way....
When i started Eve Online i couldn't use english properly and didn't know about russian community. So first 1-2 months it was solo game for me. OK. Money was always something tricky for me. Only after 5-6 months i got enough to spend on "useless" stuff. Time.... Well. My main idea for first year was "i can't spend 2 days to training some skill. I need something RIGHT NOW". That's funny: always being gallente armor tank i got T2 armor hardeners and reppers by 1st year of play Being drone "master" got T2 heavies after 13-15 months. Still have no skills for T2 sentries. My longest skill for 1st year was Drones 5. It was real pain to wait for 4(!!!) days.
BTW: speaking about learning skills i always disagree with those who talk "you need to sit in station until you get all learning skills to 5 because you will loose training time elsewere! For few months you are useless!". I have never had any learning skill to 5. And it was real planning to decide what do i want and should i train some learning skill to speed-up my plan. I really sure Eve Online lost some part of strategy planning with learning skills.
What about ships? Well. I never waited for "proper skill set" to fly something. Have always jumped into new ship once i've collected enough money to buy it and enough skills to activate. Some of my fits can be found in killboard (i advice to take a look to get some good laughs). However i've never waited!
TLDR: waiting for "proper skill set" to fly something is a very bad idea. It hurts you more than any AI, gankers, scammers, whatever. Just forget about such stupid idea and start to enjoy game you paid already for. |

My ratting alt has max drone skills, I'm not delighted I'm now going to have to dock up his boat until the drone UI gets buffed. However; practically speaking you'll have to bounce to a new setup or spend all day raging. CCP aren't going to change this for a while, so do something else. Good idea. I bought Dead Island, that game rocks. Granted I've only been playing for a week or 2, but not have the rules have changed yet. My baseball bat still does the samething as yesterday. I'm good. |

I think the problem is that most people just release drones and ignore them. Well, yeah, they're gonna die now. Drones have to be managed, even before the AI change. Watch what happens, change play style, adapt. Ran a number of missions last night with ships that I rely on drones to HELP with DPS on, and I lost one Warrior II out of five missions.
The only thing I'm still working out is the old-style "drop the Sentries and fly off" thing. Can't really do that anymore (except in my Gila) without sitting where you launched them. |

As for drones, it's like after a certain point you only use them to kill scrammer jammer frigates anyway. Keep them in your pocket until they get close.
One thing I learned in 6 years is, never train Gallente only. Things will always change against drone/blaster boats, even when things go good for a while, it's only a matter if time until another bending over occurs. This is why I fly mainly Minmatar and Caldari.
(Some minnie boats have some good drone bays though)

Sigh, someone else that doesn't get the big picture.
Wormholes and Incursions work because they were built from scratch to work the way they do. Missions and complexes weren't. Show my the wormhole site that STARTS with 35 npc ships on the field when you warp in. Show me the wormhole anom with 13 tacking npc frigs at warp in.
What some of us suggested CCP do was fix the drone user interface and revamp missions to have fewer but more powerful rats like wormholes and incursions 1st THEN bring on the new AI. We got new AI 1st that is making Sansha and Blood Raider NPC space (for an example ) and many many other missions and complexes so annoying as to almost be undoable.
in null sec this means the frigless Forsaken hubs and like anoms are going to get WAY more crowded than they have ever been, and those things spew isk unlike anoms with frigs that slow isk making down. If you see a bunch of inflation next quarter, blame those damn npcs lol.

The changes to the AI changes a lot of things, drones aren't the only one. Sansha rats will now tracking disrupt you always instead of by chance. This forced me to change my apoc fitting to compensate.
I'd imagine that gallente based rats are going to be sensor dampening you to hell. That will also cause a complete change in how ships are fit.
So if you are ratting with drones... say goodbye to that or adapt. It is really that simple.
On a side note, it does appear that the Raven and other missile ships are only going to get more used. All warfare is based on deception and logistics. Battles and soldiers are secondary priorities. |

A.) PVE
1. The range is now comparable to something a 720mm or heavy beam laser can achieve, welcome to our range. 90% Of people are reporting a loss of 60 DPS. Hardly the end of the world. 2. I still do think they're entirely THAT bad. I ran Stop the Thief last night and lost one drone to initial aggro (and they had webs so recalling didnt help) 3. See 2 4. You mean like the other two gun systems too? Hybrids and Lasers called, they said DEAL WITH IT 5. See 2 6. I guess bring a logi frigate? :D 7. See 2 8. Even when flying a marauder I haven't found that Guristas mission were any worse than the Serpentis missions. Granted, I haven't ran any Guristas missions since Retri so I can't say much to this one.
B.) PVP
1. See 1 of PVE 2. HAM drake will **** your **** up like a 425mm hurricane will 3. Powegrid reduction really that bad? I can't imagine it really is but that remains to be seen, so I'll leave this one. 4. Really? Compare a HAM Tengu to a HAM Legion or a HPL legion or a 425mm Loki or a neutron blaster Prot. HAM-gu stil scares me. 5. Okay yeah bombers being toast I'll give you but that's just sad if your AF gets pwned by belt rats. I will give you, though, that a anom full of frigs can do a number on any small ship pretty quick... The Drake is a Lie |

dont forget to tell me how many anoms have gets in them and how you cant control range where to land on NPC to be in right distance with ship and that rewards are so bad compared.

Mission rats tend not to have to do all of this individually due in large part to their greater numbers, especially against solo pilots, but I ask as we have at least 1 if not 2 differences in the 2 AI's. 3 if you count splitting Ewar/DPS to different targets. I've not been damped by sleepers the way I have by serpentis, nor jammed frequently if at all as I recall. And either I just didn't notice as I was using missiles at the time or I've never been under TD affects from them either. The more important one is that sleeper frigs to my knowledge don't have any greater propensity to hate drones than anything else, while mission AI now hates drones by design at the frigate level.
So I am genuinely asking, do sleepers do all those types of ewar while having dedicated drone haters? |

Why ? Result is simple CCP damaged all players around. I bougt one day before this patch finaly raven navy to run lev 4 misions after half year of skilling. Now I cant run level 4 missions because I DONT HAVE DRONES ! all my drones are killed in few seconds imediately after putting out.. Without drones Im totaly loosed because I cant aply dmg by shooting cruise missiles on frigates or destroyers sou im not able to continue in mission (frustrate). of course this is not only problem of raven navy ..
so what to say ? CCP damaged all players around / next nonsens of CCP

I'm sad, I don't stay up to date on the patches or changes and play Eve solo. I JUST had the idea that I could run missions more easily in a Myrmidon that mostly stays out of enemy range, and apparently people have been doing it for a long time, and now it gets nerfed like two days after I started doing it |

I said this before and will say this again. The new drone AI didn't make missions harder, it made them more time wasting. I.e. you lost XX drones, now it's time to invent and make more of them. For some people it means another run to Jita. "Adapt" - means you have to stop using the ship you like and start flying Drake or Tengu like the rest nullbear newbs. |

Hell if you thinka lvl 4 is bad now, go to null sec, find a Blood Raiders Naval Ship Yard.
Go in with spider tanking cap boosting battleships (spider tank needs cap lol) and a logi ship , all BS with at least 2 types of EWAR in an attempt to juggle aggro off the logi, set self destruct and watch your entire little fleet die long before the 1st ship can explode it's self lol. That's what I and a mate just did, dind't want those Dominixes (Dominii?) anyways (not the self destruct part, but those ships were dead long before 2 mins were up).
Thank you ccp for the "more engaging PVE", and by more engaging pve I mean "never ever gonna do a Blood 10/10 again" . CCP Gargant:-á this game requires a certain amount of simply going out there and chatting with people. You will get scammed, destroyed, cheated, trolled, and blown up but that is just a part of the essence of this game. -á |

My rebuttle to the entire WH thinly-veiled e-peen waving argument: Risk vs Reward.
If I want my drones taking WH level risks then I want to see WH level rewards at the end.
Regular drone captains who are just doing regular missions are not collecting WH level rewards, so why should they have to put up with WH level risk?
Fine, you elitist WH dwelling weirdos, we get it. We're just not as cool as you. We didn't sign up back in 2001 or whatever and don't have a billion SP and a trillion ISK to show for being bad-ass enough to live in WH space. Now step off your pedestal for a minute and try to remember that people who aren't taking the same risks as you aren't getting the same rewards, either. It's called fair trade. Our "softer" playstyle doesn't pay as much. Well guess what? We're fine with that. If we wanted the rewards that badly we would be taking those risks. But we're not, because we don't.
But now the risks of WH space have come to encroach on our nice little "comfort zone" and we're not seeing any sort of compensation for our pains. Get it?
CCP has added risk but has failed to add any reward. EvE Forum Bingo |

Well I had done 20ish missions with no issue and then switched over to Caldari space to do some there and I finally lost some drones.
At first it was no problem. See drones taking damage, pull them in and then send them out again. But for some reason this Caldari mission was different. There were 5 frigates in a tight orbit around me in my torpedo golem. All were webbing me and one was scramming me. I had been doing fine with torps so didn't have my drones out but decided to send em out to get the scrammer off me. Drop my hammerheads out and after a few seconds one pops so I pull them back in. I sent the hobgoblins out and by the time their MWDs turn off 2 are dead. By the time the scram frigate is dead 3 of my gobos are dead. To make things worse my torpedos would orbit these frigates at super duper high speed until they disappeared, never hitting the frigates with 3 domination tps on target.
This is a HUGE wtf for me. This game is supposed to be a sandbox. If I want to carebear it up in empire then that is what I am paying CCP for. Nearly losing my expensive marauder simply because my drones all die before one little frigate gets popped is BS.
Oh and btw, a battleship killed a drone that was orbiting it. Wait, so I can't hit frigates orbiting my abaddon but an NPC battleship can instapop a drone?
Give me a break.
In short. Fix this or I'll say shut up and take my money to a different game company. |

Few things:
1.) "Sandbox" just means "ruleset and/or tools without defined objective", not "do whatever you want to do". There's a lot of confusion about that.
2.) Tools and rules change.
3.) Do not fly an expensive Marauder you cannot afford to lose because of one little frigate. Or anything else for that matter.
4.) If any of the above are unsatisfactory, you really are better off giving your money to someone else. Griping about it while still paying will make no impression whatsoever. Leaving won't really make an impression either, but at least you'll be free of the hassle.

Now if you abuse the "defect" in the AI you won't have nearly as much drone issues till they fix the AI in which case you will be back to losing your drones asap.. |

Maybe they should nerf what you do for fun so that the game is no longer enjoyable for you. Maybe if they don't want people to do things solo they should nerf hisec mining too.
I don't run missions for money. My skills aren't good enough to blitz them like everyone else. I run them because they are fun or rather were fun. Now I have to dual box two accounts just to ensure one stupid little frigate doesn't send my ship down in flames. But I guess that's what CCP wanted right? Drones dying = more money. L4s not being soloable = more money. Tell me, are you one of the people that threw a fit when the monocle was announced? Because you're acting like you've never complained about a thing in your life.
As to your point 4. One of the dumbest things I've ever heard. If I like don't like something I'm not going to sit around like a dog and just take it. I am going to gripe about it because it makes me feel better. Will I make a difference? No. Will me leaving for other games make a difference? No. Will a whole lot of people make a difference? Hope so.
They have increased the risk of L4s and if they aren't going to nerf NPC damage to drones then they need to increase the reward to compensate. |

If they do, I'll be gone. Anyone who pays to be annoyed is an idiot.
All of my points are facts of life in EVE, it's the intent of the design. I'm not poking at you or telling you to like it, or HTFU or any of the other usual snide comments. It's just the truth.
I think the drone changes are pretty lame, and like most features around here didn't get nearly enough testing before they were implemented. It's the way things go.
In all seriousness, there's enough to EVE that you can probably find something else you'll enjoy. But if you can't tolerate those four facts, hanging around is just setting yourself up for bitter and endless disappointment.

Isn't that basically griping without griping though? I love the game enough that I WANT the devs to see that I am displeased with the direction they are taking. I'm not going to just up and quit something I enjoy because a small part of it changed.
My accounts are up in February so they have until then to work the kinks out of this system.
I am NOT advocating afk mission running. The heavy missile nerf was deserved. The NPC dampening changes are brutal but at least I have drones that can kill those cruisers...oh wait I don't because they are killed within seconds of leaving the bay if there are frigates near by. Why does nobody see a problem with this? An Abaddon can only hit frigates at long range with its guns. You NEED drones to kill frigates. But frigates instapop drones.
Eve is not a safe place. Why are we being forced to play with groups of people in an environment where when I first started playing I was told rule #2 is never trust anyone?
Increased risk. Increase the reward now. |

It seems to me that the NPC AI changes (or at least their aggression towards drones) should have been implemented at the same time as a complete mission revamp (fewer more powerful enemies) and/or a substantial revamp to drones in general.
As they are now, drones are a terrible choice for a primary weapon system for PVE due to their high cost, limited capacity for reserves and new-found vulnerability which severely limits their range and ability to inflict damage. |

Uhmm i think you are right in most points.
The current Drone shooting system really need many many patches before it really can work. Ok i did nto lost any drones since the new AI was activated. I had some nice fights in 0 sec wiht some rats but did not loose anything , but it really with drones CCP try to take the easy way. They did not make the AI really more intelligent, they only added some more simple variables. Now the AI know shooting drones is primary if small AI ships are around they shoot drones, normalyl i would say that makes some sort of sense but not if you now cannot use your drones anymore in missions.
Currently your drones are only some sort of cannon fodder and thats stupid. Stopping people from doing AFK missions in a drone boat is important, but not if the only option CCP see is making drones nearly useless. Why not make drones act little bit different, let them attack everything if set to agressive around X km from the drones current location, so AFK wont work cause your drones wont clean everything. Or ok let the AI shoot drones as they currently do but then buff drones shield, armor and hull so they have chance to survive if they are targetet, and also force the same rules for the NPC ships it really cant be that a ship with large turrets can hit small drones with 100% chance if the drones are orbiting this ship.

Yeah, they seem a lot weaker now, but it's probably just that they're getting hit a lot more. Some of those rat BS pilots have outrageous tracking skills apparently.

Yes and thats one of the problems. I always dont know if i should cry or not if a company tells me they make the AI smarter and then only make the AI cheat like hell.
Making a AI harder also works without letting the AI cheat. MAke them harder giving the NPC Ships a higher shield reload rate, little bit more shield and armor HP sure. But not giving the AI a tracking speed on a BS thats better then the players tracking speed on a cruiser. Sure the AI can be little bit bettter also with tracking and scuh things, but let the AI play the game with same basic rules then the player. Dont give the AI Godlike Powers and Skills. Ok drones get more damage now fine, then boost the shield, armor and hull poinst of the drones to make it equal again, CCP said they wanna boost the AI , ok fine they uhm "did it" , but now drones have nearly 0 chance to survive if a NPC start shooting at them. So drones must become more HP to have a chance to survive this, also the AI need to be set to the same limitations the player has.
Currently the AI has nearly a 100% hit chance on everything and thats something that cant work |

I smell the price of drone boats dropping, I don't really use my drones too much anyway relying on my missiles however I have been using gun boats lately as well, and yes you need the drones because my 350's don't hit them at about 20 to 29 km but here's how I've been dealing with NPC frigs, kill the cruisers/BC first, next start on BS rats or towers if there are any while kiting away, let the frigs get right on you and when they circle like vultures sic your drones on them however DO pop as many frigs past that area where they get UNDER your guns once they are don't waste you're time kill the cruisers this way you're drones will be more less unaggroed. And you should start tanking more so you will survive getting tackled (because you will) and make sure YOU make any warp scrambling frig priority don't worry about webbing frigs as long as you're tanking you can take some pounding and just be aligned to a jump gate or station that you SET as destination this way you always know what your aligned too if you do need to hit the road. |

The part that grinds your gears is, CCP knew this. They didn't rewrite the AI, they just moved a few dials. It's the same AI that doesn't see range, tracking, or any of the rules we have for e-war or hit. They can't make "intelligent AI". it would be the same as adding 200,000 players to the server. |
