I've been playing EVE for about a week now. I fly a badger indutrial ship and have just been doing some trading in high security to mid-level security systems, slowly developing my skills as a space trucker.
This weekend I was inching my way up to a jumpgate on one of my runs when someone gets a lock on me, I quickly activate my kick ass civilian shield booster but I was too late, his first shot takes my shields down halfway and I notice a system messege flash across my screen. Too busy to read it I fight back the panic and fear of losing my badger since I'd spent most of my limited funds on it earlier that day, and try to figure out what I can do before another shot comes...next I see an explosion in the distance and the shot never came.
I check my log and realize I had been attacked by a player and a sentry gun smoked them in one shot...Needless to say I was a pretty relieved and very amused. -------------------------------------------- :::Jayrod:::Space trucker for hire |

so I've a question...
If someone attacks you in secure space, you are not allowed to fight back? The second to last post made it sound as if you are not. Please clarify as I am a noob myself.

Yes, you can fight back without any repurcussions.... just don't pod the person. That is considered an offence in Empire space, regardless of whether your opponent is criminally flagged or not. And my colleagues at CONCORD will stop by for an unpleasant visit.

If you are fired upon, then by all means fire back. Just dont expect to dock or jump through a gate "due to your hostile actions"....
Happened to me this weekend thought I could sneak by some gate campers. They fired and I returned fire but continued to the gate. Well the Gate crew said I was too hostile and would'nt let me jump

But you can shoot the pod of a player whose security status is below -5.0 without repercussions in all security level systems. They're outlaws.

Dont make the mistake of shooting first. They can LOCK you with no repercussions.

yes you can lock them, that's ok but don't shoot. You can also cargo scan them, thats fun, and ship scan them to see what they are carrying. And of course you can use EW on them and warp scramble them, just if you do that please wait for me to be there with my hauler to "help out".

I strongly urge you to search for tjani in game and read my bio. A well known maxim in Eve is "Don't fly anything you cant afford to lose." You got lucky this time. I hope you build up sufficient capital before the next time.

That saying is for low-sec space, not empire! Empire gankings are wrong, m'kay. ------------

Tell that to every friend and family of the people that have been kicked to death in the middle of the street by psychotic drugaddicts and neo-**** thugs. Hmm, that doesn't really make sense, but the point is you're not safe even in the most civilized environment. Fear of punishment does not apply to everyone, some don't even grasp the fact that they will be punished for their actions.

Yeah. But I'll bet those psychotic neo-**** thugs don't recycle themselves into biomass after they are arrested, only to appear again as a free person in 24 hours. ------------

I think you misunderstood my point. 1)Ganking newbs ANYWHERE is wrong in my opinion 2)Ganking isnt the only way a newb can lose a ship. A newb can get into a rat fight that he cant handle, or accidentally attack a neutral object and get Condorded. 3)Ganking in Empire isnt ALWAYS wrong. Ganking can raiders is justice. 4)Even though ganking newbs in high sec is wrong, it still happens.
At any rate, I didnt intend my words to be a threat, and the maxim holds true in High sec as well, because there are dangers in high sec that could destroy a ship, especially for new players.
