I'm not a powergamer so don't really 'grind' for ISK and skills.
My goals are to have fun, plain and simple. That means *mainly* killing other players.
So in war, the way is to avoid what is strong and to strike at what is weak. |

As hard as it is in EVE to ever do anything RP-related, it's 10x harder in any other MMO currently out there.
I find it easy to roleplay in Eve.
'lock' 'open fire' 'pick up corpse'. There you go, roleplayed an assassin.
or a pirate?
'lock' 'open fire' 'pick up cargo'
What exactly is hard about 'roleplay' in Eve? I can understand the difficulty in other games as they are more limiting in what you can do but Eve gives you the freedom to be what you want to be without having to force 'roleplay' in its traditional sense.
So in war, the way is to avoid what is strong and to strike at what is weak. |

Originally by: Lythius Arcturnus To actually learn enough so I stop getting blown up constantly.
For example, I actually took some iniative and put some ECM target scramblers on my hauler the other day.
I came across 2 gate campers at a gate in 0.0, they both target me, I lock on and click the jammer, and some window pops up talking about me commiting a criminal act by jamming them. At this moment it was jam or be killed so I clicked yes.
The other guy proceeds to start shooting. I make it to the gate alive, and click jump, but some window pops up saying something about not letting me jump cause im a criminal or something, and before I could finish reading it I was dead =/
I take 1 step forward and 2 steps back =/
Believe me, not only newcomer make mistakes, also old more "expirienced" player, playing for almost 2 years now.
For example yesterday i had a Claw vs my Taranis encounter. Me fitted with rails he and had autocannons fitted. Well after few tactical warps, he had me at good distance to initiate a fight (5km). He webbed me and i warp scrambled him. But at this distances his autocannons were supirior than my rails were.
End of story i died. A few hours later i surfed in the Itemdatabase and look again at the Claw. I mean common i know this ship, but forgot that this ship only has 2 med slots. MWD + Webber, so who could he scramble me. Well he didnt, i just didnt tried to warp, because i was used, that anyone will have fitted a scrambler.
Know your enemy as good as you know yourself. I learned something new, even when iam one of the older player. _____________________________________ Dead or Alive

One thread a week on it is quite enough.
You said it. What people seem to forget is that new players to the game have better opportunity for faster training times than we vets did when the game started out. Implants, advanced training skills, etc.
I mean for frack's sake, how hard is to understand that eve is not a powerleveller's game?

I don't even understand the old vs new player arguement. You players that have been here longer should have a better character than I do. You've invested more time and money than I have building your character up and deserve to have an advantage over me. I have 600k or 700k skill points and will always be behind the people here before me. So what?
Anyway - I've been here about a month and am having a great time. Met some great people, been podded a few times, mined, traded, NPC hunted, etc.
My short term goal is to get better at configuring combat ships with equipment.
My long term goal is to become the Beloved Self-Appointed Dictator for Life of the Universe.

However the general idea holds for many other threads as well. This game is constantly changing, often with much whining on both sides of any change. I think deciding what really are good changes or bad changes really requires you need to figure out why you even play in the first place.
Fun might be the #1 reason, but what is fun? ....
The same thing that I find fun, someone else will not. That is what Eve is, a lot of games together as one where you make of it what you will. If you want the game to give you something "fun" to do, then you are a better candiate for the scripted games that make you follow a path. ------------------------------------------------ Serve the State Join Channel CAINCOM |
