Edited by: Kashre on 26/05/2005 05:39:18 right now 4x1400 4xsiege with a custom armor tank for whoever your fighting (therm kinetic with gurista?) and 4 named cap chargers (I like fb-10s, only 5 mil but almost as good as charger II) and a painter. If you find yourself unable to completly tank those annoyingly strong dual BS spawns like you get with the Deadly Duo mission or the extravaganza missions (especially the Angel one) then consider dropping the painter and 1 charger for 2 (named or t2) racial jammers. They dont hit every cycle but they will hit enough to give you time to boost your armor back up and/or turn your tank off for a few seconds to conserve cap.
That setup is only the best one (imo) until the torps vs frig nerf. Then all bets are off.
I havent decided what Im really going to do for frig defence after that, but I suspect that I'll end up developing the missile spec skills and start running 4x1400 t2/4xT2 assault launchers or 5x1400 t2/3xt2 assault launcher. +++
It's called "low security space" for a reason. |

Edited by: Jet Collins on 15/06/2005 13:51:55 I've just started lvl 4 and I though I would put my tempest set up. Yes it still needs some work i.e I won't do a dead space mission with it alone but none dead space I have no problem
High: 5 1400; 3 seige
Mid: XL C5-L shield Booster; 2x 50% shield hardners depebdent on NPC; named AB; and t2 Painter
Low: 4/5 t2 PDS's I have recently changed our one of the t2 PDS for a tracking enchance; last slot is a CPU II
Probbaly needs some work but so far my tank has been fine I have high skills in Cap efficency. So Bash all you want I like new ideas.

My 0.0 Angel beltratting setup:
6x650 / 2xsiege 1x 100mn AB / 4xeuth cap recharger (don't go lower then those) 1xlarge named+1xmed T2 armor rep / 3x hardener / 1x cap relay. 15x Valkyrie/Vespa(because they are fast)
I don't like the 800mm's against Angels, 2 of the 3 most common BS MWD around sometimes at 2k/sec that's where the AB comes in to lower your transversal. And i also like twice the amount of ammo before reloading. I only use Fusion and Bane most of the times maybe you want to try some other ammotypes against Guristas.
If you want to use it only for missions then i would stick with the Typhoon because it has better armor tank.

Easy. Mark a BM point 80km from them while you tank them, warp out, then warp back to that jump point you just made and start the 1400mm slaughter!!! ______________________________________________

Edited by: Siroc on 15/06/2005 15:57:36 Buster Hymen, this will not work in Deadspace. Your hardest moment is when you first warp in using Accelerator Gate into the area. You can't warp out from there, if you do, you go back to very beginning of the area again. So you need to be able to be able to outdistance rats without having to warp out.
My solution? AB and few speed modules, for example, couple overdrives and 1 nano. (i know we are loosing tanking/damage), maxed out nav skills. Speed over 700m/s will take you out of range of main group far enough for you to dispose intercepters with missles and drones.
Anyone tried to take down intercepters with light missles? What does better, heavy launchers, assults or maybe rockets? I realy do not want to go to cruise/torps. Takes too much PG.
Setup right now:
6 1400, 1 hwy missles. ---------------------- AB, 2 tracking comp, painter, web (thinking about switching it to another painter) ---------------------- 2 gyros,1 nano, 2 overdrives, 1 cpr

From my experience Rockets do the most damage. However they only have a 5000m range base without skills. This would be very close range which I think you are trying to avoid. Light missiles work but honestly if you are doing level 4 missions you probably want to use cruise and heavies. Use drones to take out the frigs. Possibly a small turret with good tracking would work well also.

Don't let the naysayers try to get you to do the same thing with 10million that you can to in style with 900. Originally by: Dred 'Morte the problem is, to effectively tank in a tempest, u cant have stuff like tracking comps and afterburners, and if u go range, u'll die eventually as only a few missions can be done like that... then again, i really dont know how ppl can do so many missions alone in a raven...
All you need to do is know how to tank and have the skills to tank well. If you can do that you can last long enough for pretty much any weapons to widdle down your opponents. (An buttload of sp helps too)

Why wouold any tank a sniper bs ?, just get a large armour rep on low, 6 1400's on high throw on a sensor booster or two + some medslot tracking, rest is reactor and damagemods, this is a tempest.

Have any of you guys tried tanking in a complex with a tempest? specially a 5/10 angel complex? if so speed only gets you so far since some of the npc's mwd towards you around 500-600m/s and or their range is still around 120km I run 6 1400's in the highs Large sbII,shield boost amp, 3 hardeners for angel kinetic,Thermal and em for the missiles Low slots i have 5 gyroII's ad a PDU II

Besides, you are going to have problems fitting 4 dual 650s, let alone 4 800s on a phoon together with a solid armor tank and 4 sieges.
No. 'tis a question of skills, a tanked one with 4 dual 650mm II and 4 SML is well possible. And if you do not want close range, go for 4x1400 + 4xCML in that sniper-phoon.

I was just wondering what i should add to my ship..
Highslot: 6x1400mm II 2xArbalest Assault with defenders Midslot: 1xTarget Painter II 4xCap Rechargers II LowSlot: 2xL. Repair II 2xRCU II and 1x Gyro II
Would this be a good setup. I already tried it on so cpu and pg is okey. |

Edited by: Muad ''dib on 09/08/2005 16:14:42 i prefer to use a tracking computer II over a single target painter II, as some rats pop in just a hit or two and the cycle time is 10 seconds you have to wait until its ready to use again - valuable shooty shooty time
Tracking comp is on all the time and effects every shot on every rat (so you can take on more at one time while the target painter only ydoes one per 10 secs), unless you in a gang where everyone else is using them for a group effect trackng comps better imo.
EDIT: tbh id go for a gank-tank, shield hardeners/extenders/boosters in mids dmg mods in lows, but what ever floats ya boat

6x 1400 IIs 2x assault launchers w/ defenders
2x tracking 2s, 1x sensor booster 2, 1x ab 2, 1x L sb 2
5x gyro 2, 1x reactor 2
TBH, your wasting your time trying to tank a Tempest. If you want to tank, buy an Apoc. Max ur damage and stay at range - thats what a Tempest does. Getting up close and personal in PVE is stupid. Only point to using autos is to be in range to self-tackle the human your shooting at.

Well i went and did it. I setup my tempest with all of your knowledge i have read here on the forums and this is what i feel would work but i have been wrong before but here is my 0.02 isk.
High Slots 6x T2 1400mm 2x Heavy E500 Nos.
Medium Slots 1x Xl Shield Booster 1x Shield Booster Amp 1x T2 Thermal Shield Hardener 1x T2 Kinetic Shield Hardener 1x T2 Afterburner
Low Slots 2x T2 Gryostabilizers 2x T2 R.C.U. 2x T2 CPU
This is basically a tempest with all tech 2 gear except for the Shield Booster Amplifier and the 2 Heavy E500 Nos. I will prolly upgrade to the tech lvl 2 Nos this week. I haven't had a chance to test this setup yet but i am going to 0.0 fighting Guristis and fight in a 8/10 complexe with corp mates so if my 0.02 isk is worth anything please be nice and post a reply to this but use nice constructive critisism, Thank-You

Heavy nos has a range of about 20km, and you don't want to be within 20km of your target when your using 1400mms. Also using 4 of you lowslots for modules just to fit everything isn't that good imo.

with maxed skills you'll be doing 800damage/normal hit with phased plasma at about 90km falling as you go out to max lock range at ~125km. -- We are the Octavian Vanguard www.octavianvanguard.net http://www.serenitymovie.com |

Nos don't work very effectively yet against NPCs (they will after the next Big Content Patch though), as NPCs don't use cap for their shooting/tanking/webbing. So the Nosses won't do much for you, you're probably better of with 2 assault missile launchers if you want to kill the frigates yourself. This will also lighten the powergrid load, so you can probably drop one RCU, or at least replace it with an PDS II (will help your shield tank).
The Tempest also only has 150m3 drone bay, so that's 6 heavy drones or 15 medium ones. The heavy drones won't hit NPC frigates if they're not webbed, and the medium drones won't do enough damage to kill cruisers fast enough. The drones may save your hide at one time, but I wouldn't recommend them as a main offensive weapon against frigates and cruisers.
I'd go with: 6x 1400 IIs, 2x assault/rocket launcher with defenders Shield tank in mid slots (probably only a large booster II wil fit, CPU on xlarge is crazy imo), 100mn AB Damage mods in low
You won't be able to tank much damage, but I don't think a Tempest is suited for that role anyway. Try to find a buddy who will tank for you. Most NPC cruisers will go boom in one volley, and as long as you keep range most frigates in 2-3 shots.
