well the thing is, to them its not a game, its a business. they need to be more professional and do a better job. ----------------------------------------- I am a forumaholic. |

The servers have been playing up for the last couple of weeks, 1 hour downtimes have become 2 - 3 hour downtimes. Sure they cant keep it running perfectly ALL the time, but this many problems? Ostensibly the server reboots are meant as time to fix these kind of problems. If the they need longer fine, tell us but dont just reboot the server and let everyone log on if theres a problem.
It would appear that most of the problems only occur when the server load is high, i.e. right after downtime when there's 5,000 addicts all trying to log in at once.
TQ is pretty much stable the rest of the time...

Wee server loves me again! Letting me log in normally, no extended startup time like there normally is after DT and straight on to my main.
/me likes this turn of events

Well what do they expect? The servers should be designed for this kind of thing.

If this is indeed a hardware problem causing this, then the slowly declining state of the servers leads me to believe this an intermitent failure. Which means the part continues to work, just with odd problems here and there until it completely craps out. If they have any sane technicians there then their looking for that part. That kind of troubleshooting takes a bit of time, so calm down. A company like ccp will surely compensate us for time lost if it gets excessive.
Bottom line : Whinin won't freaking help, shut it.

I think the player base would be more inclined to not excessively whine about if there was a almost complete black-out of information and status when something goes wrong... I've been contemplating this recently and thought it would be nice if there was some sort of real-time or intermittent status display on the main login screen informing players of current difficulties or excessive lag... In my own personal experience I've only gotten "ghost windows" popping up every once in a while saying time for reboot.. your paying for this but don't call us, we'll call you when everything is ok...
Additionally, if 5k players logging on intially when the servers came up was a massive problem I'm sure the eve staff would adapt accordingly and gradually have the servers only accept a limited number of connections until they were warmed up...
Lastly, Many of you may have some experience with networking and such but until your working for CCP or its affiliates any hardware/server issues they are having and the appropriate solutions are pure conjecture.
P.S. Eve staff wants us all to move into 0.0 cause their servers are taking a huge hit with us hangin in empire... Solution: Upgrade Servers or give us way to avoid getting ganked... |

its irrelevant how long it takes ccp to diagnose and solve this problem, we should all be happy that they are!, personally i dont mind sitting here in front of my pc waiting for the server to allow me in,compared with other games of this nature i have played on line this has to be one of the most stable servers i have seen,Of course its going to have problems name me a company that doesnt, Problems like this pop up so they can be solved, have patience and wait..

Personally I would like to see some more emphasis on stability over added features after the next patch. Your Miner II perfectly blows up in its mount, wrecking for 900000000 damage. |

Edited by: The Procrastinator on 15/05/2005 14:51:06 It really has been a bad couple of weeks. Please if its a hardware issue upgrade it so it can take the load. The loss in revenue from people leaving will be worse than the cut in profits for the next few months from having to buy more kit.

Now usualy i don't complain this open at all .... simply cause i'm not bothered with it. (like Verone). But ur IP-adres is not allowed. PLZ man. what's the next step ????? ...... Diff playing times for diff county's ??? -----(maybe that whas a bad sug. i'm gonna jump out my window iff it really happens )(i live on the ground floor, lucky enough )
Stop fooling around, and fix thoose problems that keep returning ... I don't care iff i can't play for a day ..... at least it's better then waiting around for ur cargo hold to empty into ur hanger ... or loosing ur ships to lag (with would not be first time for most peeps).
atleast ... thats how i see it ... Thanks for ur time.

I don't mind if NO-ONE can play, as that is clearly an indicator of something wrong with the hardware, but to allow only 6k people on, and the rest get the cluster full message is total crap. There is no way they are going to know to credit those who couldn't get on, and they aren't going to just give away another day of free play when they know some people did get to play. What has changed suddenly that logging in after DT is such an issue? And why, after an unscheduled reboot, is it taking so long to get the server back up to load? |

I personally wouldnt mind if they just added 30 minutes extra to the downtime to allow all the servers to be fully rebooted to allow all the junkies to all log at once without a problem.
Oh, right, sorry, didnt mean to hijack the thread with an idea... I'll get back on topic.
OMGWTFBBQ! CCP!! FFSOMGBBQmycat!!!
I personally would like to thank the staff for the job they do.
Yes the servers have issues, but yes they are trying to sort them. But no one ever makes a thread when the servers are doing okay, or when the game is running smoothy...

Not a whinge, but a question;
Are log in times on the increase, or is this as a result of the increasing data in my Eve folder (chat logs, bookmarks etc etc)?
I ask because of late its getting to be that i can almost wander off and get a cuppa before the character selection screen loads.
Thanks in advance for any meaningful advice that can help with this, either that or extend it a bit more so i can actually get that cuppa made
