Has CCP worked out which hamster is tired yet?

If you think you can do a better job, go find yourself a datacentre to host a box, get a copy of Visual Studio, and STFU.

I logged on to explain how the hamster wasn't tired by referring to a famous experiments where a mouse stood in one place and killed itself with pleasure, but then I realized why it was classified and decided not to
Edit : Considering that this is not even on page 2 yet I'd say the server problems are probably not that big atm? Or have people stopped bothering to let the world know how unhappy they are? Maybe all of them got fried like the hamster

from what I understand the hampsters been put on a breeding programme so they can run more servers, depending on the outcome of the hampsters pregnacy we may be getting 5-10 new servers all running on eco frendly Hampster power!

Wouldnt it be easier to just sticky a server troubles thread and just change the date on it every time the server is having problems (read: every 2-3 days)? ------------------------------------------------------------------

The memories that that link brought up. Here's one I pull up from time to time when I'm bored. Rocket advert
As for the server issues, there have been some processes during server start-up that weren't completing before the server went live. If you think about when you start your computer, you start opening programs before your OS loads completely, and the programs are a bit slow in opening, this is the same situation that was occuring when the server returned from DT or maintenance.
Due to the sheer size of some of the operations (like the market system), some of these processes were still running when players started logging in. This, in conjunction with some nodes dropping, resulted in the the increased lag and other server issues.
The root cause of the issues are still being investigated. Rearrangement of the process start order is being under consideration, as are other options. More information will be posted as it becomes available.

Not that i know anything about this, but couldn't you make it so that people can't try to login till these processes are finished starting? Like either automated or just have the people there turn it on when ready?
Like i say i have no idea what im talking about so if that's just stupid then dont bother complaining about it. ----------------

A reasonable question and more than worthy of an answer. The artificial limit on log-ins over the weekend was a trial run to see how much of an effect log-in metrics had on some elements of the start-up process. It met with some success and allowed us to isolate the issue a bit.
More work is being done and we hope to have a solution in the near future.

Or perhaps some of the login could be handled by a seperate server...

I for one would be willing to not be able to login at all until all services are up, of course being in the US on CST, your downtime happens on my travel to work, and playing Eve at my desk is a risky affair.
Some of the Europeans should be acquiring lunch at that time so donĘt worry about them either just get the servers stable, then everyone can have a good time.
Stop griping about server instability and go buy an EVE mug!
Additionally with the purchase of each mug you will receive two(2) invisible Elves.

My connection to EvE has been dodgy since Friday evening and is stil fubar'd now.
Taken 10-15 minutes so far and I still can't log on. This happens on 2 different PCs which haven't had any upgrades or updates applied.
My 1Mb broadband is otherwise working fine with all 6 computers on my home network.
I must admit I'm getting pretty annoyed now, I nearly lost a barge today when my connection dropped and its been impossible to mine or do missions.

I was just wondering something DEVs.
What is actually going on when you shut down the servers at DT and they come back on an hour later?
Is it all automated? Or are you actually doing something?
What is going to happen when the server grows? Say to 100,000 subscribers per month, is it going to increase DT?
Why not have it going down on mon/wed/friday or the weekend at 2 hours a time instead of everyday?
Alot of questions I know, i'm just trying to see the point of DT. If I shut down my exchange servers for an hour everyday, i'd get shot

From a totally geeky point of view I'd also be mildly interested in whats going on in the back ground.
I know this sounds also I should be taken out back and removed from the gene pool - but the news story about the the spanning tree problems you had to me was very interesting. I do though work on routers so I kinda got an excuse. Certainly a good excuse when my boss caught me on the eve site when I should have been working... yet again...
I definately vote for more technical articles that I can baffle my boss with bull with

How long are the Market problems in Metropolis and Molden Heat going to go on ??
On top of that the client frezees sometimes, and undocking/docking also seems to be problem.

I'm in Kor-Azor, the market is dead, docking or undocking freezes the game, opening my wallet causes a crash and logging in is almost impossible.
I've had various problems since Friday, but things are getting worse not better.

Well after my previous posts about "May Lag Fest 2005" it seems CCP are trying hard to make it happen. I haven't experienced such an extended period of troubles ever I don't think.
There has been longer down times but repeated long periods of lag/errors that are occuring every week and more than once a week? This is concerning me.
We all love this game thats a fact, but the lethargic communication of problems like this and their lack of resolution is frustrating. There really needs to be a "messenger" who can let us know whats going on and an estimated fix time if any. I won't put a 425mm rail to his head. I promise.
Lack of communication leads people to assume a distinct lack of respect for your customers. So talk. Let us know earlier rather than later. Cheers.

Lol lets ge the next patch in quicksmart before we figure out the current lag problem first - commomn thats the standard logic.
Market in *****ious keeps going down (mind you with 3 stations) cant be that hard.
Oh well lets go see if we can get some more paying members to join up the more the merrier.
