It would be cool if you can land on a planet and get off the ship and it becomes a First Person game (ie like doom3 etc..) and with the isk you can buy properties and factories etc.. PvP ala FPS and, make the planet world big so there is plenty to explore etc.. man that would make for a real interesting addition.

Would also take a year orso in production.. Honestly, EVE is not that game. If its futuristic, planetside *cough* MMOFPS you want I suggest you look elsewhere.
The closest thing we will see to that is planetary flight, and that is still a long way off.

I like HUGO's idea and have proposed it myself. It may never happen, but it would be great. Imagine carrying on bounty hunting in a space station or on a planet?
What is this planetary flight I keep hearing about? How will that work?

Warp to planets and fly around a la, er... aeroplanes. Was sneak previewed from a test server at the last fan fest and drew many ooohhhs and aaahhhs. Did look damn cool actually and is due to be part of Kali, the next big release, like Exodus.
You'll be able to land at surfaced versions of stations. Eve has never been a 'get-out-and-walk-about' game though and will probably never will be. Mucho new engine building required for that you see.

I agree it would be cool, but it sounds like something that would be way too difficult to implement. I can't see it happening. --------------------

Well what about just planets then why do we always have to trade with stations.

1. The chronicle 'Stairway to Heaven' outlines the difficulties in the EVE universe of going down to planets. 2. That said, when planetary flight comes, which it wil, I'd expect a module or specialized ship class, and maybe spaceports you can dock at similar to stations. 3. If you want to run around in character you should have been in EnB back in the day, that would have taught you. The problem was that the stations became insane lag fests with all those pilots hanging out in the main halls chatting and trading, and in the end it added incredibly little to a game where all real activity happened in space (with the exception that if you wanted to trade/sell/buy any sort of specialized equipment you had to hang out at the Freedom 7 Station). So no, I think its a needless distraction. If anything, more in-space storylines.

can we do matrix style fights in the station, or go to the pub in eve .
awesome like the idea, maybe you can get extra charisma if you use these kind of services.

Edited by: Maxine Stirner on 23/05/2005 18:44:41 Not all planets have rocky surfaces anyway. Earth has a relatively low density atmosphere which is why stuff falls through it to the condensed H20 level so fast. Gas giants offer interesting possibilities to pressure and chemical resistant hulls. Lots of possibilities there. Eve is quite submarinelike as it is. Travelling at 1km/s will vaporize most hulls of course.
We will need very specialized craft, almost tailored to each atmosphere. Colonized, low gravity moons and giant asteroids should behave exactly like stations. OMG, and they're indestructable too. And CCP doesn't have to allow players to add objects to solar systems.
That's a pretty good compromise. Somebody tell CCP quick.
Our indestructible yet defuntable player made station problem is solvzored. Such colonies should require resources to run, even if they are robotic. So should all conquerable stations frankly.. lazy pvpers.. that don't really inhabit those places anymoer.. and are an increasingly minority group.. (hint, hint).

My corp learnt the secret for planet flight a while ago. After a few modifications to my engines using T3 parts, I now live planet side. HereÆs me heading home at night after a long days work.

That's nothing. I totally used some spare parts from some newb ships and a converted mining laser in pre-pre-pre beta and scared the bejesus out of some people.

Bad idea. Basically you're taking 2 games (eve+a fps) and combining them into one. If I want to play CS I'll play CS, if I want to play Eve I'll play eve. But you can have planet bases as long as I get my deathstar. MMMM the killspam.

Well... kinda
But check this out. (would be doable too)
Why not set it up so we can like gamble and stuff in stations. You have all the characters sitting aaround a card table or something, this couldn't be too hard since you wouldn't need anymore rendered then is in character creation already. (IE head and torrso) The diffrence would be CCP would have to add arms.
I think dice, blackjack, poker, or some weird future game would be cool. Would also be a way to make isk. Could have an NPC/Agent as the dealer/house. In player stations that npcs winnings would go to the corp that own'd it.
Could have a similar setup with betting on player fights, two combatants are sent into deadspace, players place bets, and only one ship comes out. NPC/Agent pays out winnings, keeps losses.

Isn't there the slight problem of having to redesign the hulls of existing ships? From the backstory some of the materials used in ship construction are rather.....unstable....in atmospheric flight.

Ditto. That isn't even EVE. EVE is a space-based flight 'sim'. Adding FPS style sections is just... well, retarded. ---------------- Haha, stupid monkey! Now I'VE got the Oscar! Enjoy your worthless gun! |

This one:
Tritanium from the market details
The main building block in space structures. A very hard, yet bendable metal. Cannot be used in human habitats due to its instability at atmospheric temperatures. Very common throughout the world.
So basically your ship would turn into flying jelly/jell-o/whatever and fall apart quite rapidly.

Kind of like candle wax in a volcano. Like softice in the desert. Tritanium. ---- A true player does feel no need to remind himself or fellow players that it is just a game. |

Yes. That's the most retarded game feature at all. Before I found out how to change the Sims-like menu it was highly annoying getting spammed with "This is planet" messages >_< ---- A true player does feel no need to remind himself or fellow players that it is just a game. |

I'm absolutely convinced that's just a myth created to scare us pod-pilots off from trying to fly our ships down near planets. ___________________________________________ ^^^***---All things serve the Beam---***^^^ |

Not to mention the fact that most Eve ships would be aerodynamically unstable.
They would have to hang in the air the way bricks don't.
